A small pretty site with very helpful wardens, generous pitches and close to the village. Was boggy when we arrived due to bad weather and one area was out of use because of the wet conditions. We stayed in the aftermath of the hurricane and because of the sheltered location had a very calm stay.
We tried both pubs and would recommend the White Horse for food, views, hospitality and ambience.
Be aware there is no mobile signal in the area and some of the BT lines have been out of order for over 5 weeks. In an emergency the warden is happy to make their phone available. We would suggest that the Caravan Club seriously consider putting a payphone on site as they do at almost every other site we have visited over the years.
There is no dog walk on site and although there are lots of public footpaths around for the infirm, dog or owner, these are over stiles and at a distance from the site which is on a busy road into the village. A dog bin at the gate would also be very useful and encourage people to clear up rather than walk on.
The fish and chip van can be recommended and it is possible to phone through in advance so that a rain soaked queue can be avoided.
A van selling milk and eggs calls on the site each morning.
Moss tyres in Pickering can be recommended for puncture repairs and have a great food van for a breakfast butty while I waited.

This is a Caravan Club site for members located right in the village of Rosedale Abbey in the centre of North Yorkshire National Park. For this reason its ideal for walkers/hikers or those who love the outdoors.
We loved this site and will be back again ASAP. The wardens keep the place well managed and pitches are well spaced out on both sides of a central road.
It's surrounded by trees and within the village which has two pubs and a shop called 'Abbey Stores.' The only down side is the attitude of the woman who serves in Abbey stores. She seemed to 'look down' on campers and tourers shopping
The Rosedale Abbey Camping site (for tents) also looked great is Just next door to the Howard so the village has facities for everyone.
The highlight for us was finding the White Horse on The Hill Pub / hotel. Its only 300 yards out of the village up a steep hill but the views from this pub ( which welcomes dogs). It's a spectacular view of the Dales from the pub which has real log fire and a great atmosphere, good food plus open all day.
A mobile fish and chip van arrives every Friday (7.15) centre of village and this makes for a nice supper without the hassle of cooking

The area is immaculate, pitches neat and tidy and the site kept spotless and clean. The site is long and thin which results in 2 lines of vans separated by the tarmac road through the site. Each end of the site has a small 'field like' set up with the vans in a crescent.
We arrived mid afternoon on the Friday and were met by nice friendly wardens. We drove down the site to find a pitch and settled for one to the few remaining pitches on the side of the river rather than the side adjacent to the road as I am a light sleeper.
This proved to be a quiet place to stay, the site is along the edge of a river / stream, with lots of tree cover which was a slight problem for us as our van never actually got any sunlight which at this time of year meant we had to use the heating in the van.
I must admit, I am surprised that a site which can take 60 vans doesn't have any shower or toilet facilities, I had initially assumed the site to be more of a 'CL' when I booked it and only realised it's size a couple or days before we went - must pay more attention next time.
The village of Rosedale Abbey and the site itself are suited to people who want to completely chill out or those who love walking as the village is very small with no phone coverage and only a couple of small shop with limited stock.
All in all, a clean, quiet site, well kept with lovely wardens. We personally won't stop here again but only because we like smaller sites.
As for value for money - we paid £15 a night which is £3 a night more expensive than our visit to a stunning CL with toilets / shower a couple of weeks before but still a good price.

Second visit to this really nice site the weather was good and enjoyed the walks from the site rather than driving. The walk up to the old mines is a good afternoon walk with splendid views
The warden was very welcoming and efficient. The site is very level and ideal for motor homes.
Stayed on the sites to the right as you enter the site well away from the main road very peaceful.
The local shops and deli type shop sells great pies and pasties all home baked
The site is only 1 hour from our home but its great to stay in this wonderful are of Yorkshire.
Visited the local pub again the Black Sheep is very good plan to return again before end of season.

Very Nice site - spent a nice weekend but would go back again for a longer period. Wardens very helpful and pleasant, our pitch wasn't booked out the day we were leaving so the warden was happy for us to stay a little over the usual vacating time. No play area on site but that was no problem to us having no children. The road nice mentioned on other reviews was no problem at all to us. Good walks nearby with exceptional views. Pub across the road provides nice food.

What a lovely site, very friendly, helpful wardens, all grass pitches, ours was very spacious but I think some are a little narrow, the wardens seem to have this sorted though and know who's coming.
The site has no facilities and I think it's nice that the club have these sites, for one thing it keeps the cost down and made it a very reasonable £11.50 a night. There is no play area and nowhere for them to play so wouldn't really suit families.
Yes there is a bit of road noise now and again, it didn't bother us, in our opinion a small price to pay, we found the place very relaxing and the little river running by the side was lovely.
Great site for a base for touring, Hutton le Hole is a pretty place worth visiting, has a regular large car boot on Sunday mornings. Chimney bank also worth a drive to.
The village nearby is very small with two tea rooms and a small shop, there's a pub which looked popular, right across the road from the entrance but we didn't go in.
We had beautiful weather and our stay was just for the weekend before moving on to Scarborough.
Apparently they had some problems with the ground in the wet weather, so we would go back here again but look closely at the weather forecast.

Just spent 3 great nights at this site. What a great site and great location the wardens are really nice people and like a joke. Never moved the van all weekend as there are great walks around the village of varying lengths.
The pub across the road is great with good local area brews. Didn't eat there as cooked on our Cobb outside the van. Plan to return sooner rather than later.

Pretty site in a very picturesque, tiny village, surrounded by the North Yorkshire Moor hills. The site is basically oblong shaped, sandwiched in between the road into Rosedale (from the south) and a babbling brook. We visited on a Wednesday, so didn't really notice much road noise, but perhaps the weekend is busier. Its hardly the M1 though (see comment below), a tiny 'B' road serving only a few small communities.
In fact, the silence is the over-riding memory we shall take from this site, it really is awe inspiring. For a lot of the time, there is just bird song and the odd sheep bleat. Oh and if the wind is in the right direction, the sounds of the NYM Railway line some four or so miles distant.
Walks abound from the village straight out onto the moors, whilst there are also a couple of shops and pubs. We went to the pub opposite the entrance (Coaching Inn??) and the main courses are about a tenner for a huge plateful. Beer is nice too - Black Sheep and one other real ale.
Downsides - nothing that would spoil your holiday, but yes, there isn't a toilet block (although reflected in site fees) and no, perhaps not really a place for kids; not much to do.
Finally, the owners were the usual Mr & Mrs Helpful you get at Caravan Club sites - nothing too much trouble, including a free late check out for us. Will be going back!

Arrived first weekend of the season and some of the pitches were out of use due to bad weather. The pitches are all grass and some where getting protective wire netting laid down.
No facilities on site so you need to use your own, although this is reflected in the very reasonable pitch price.
Beautiful site in a beautiful village which has a couple of coffee shops, village store and the ruins of the Abbey.
This years site wardens Jean & Peter made us feel very welcome and are helpful & friendly.
We will be back several times this season as we love this area.

I have just returned from an excellent three nights at this site.
As the previous reviewers said this site does not have toilets or showers.
We have stayed here 3 times before, my children love the site, it has a long flat road through the middle of the site which they like to cycle up and down on, also there is a small river that runs along the back of the site where you can pick brambles in the autumn.
Because of the rain we were told to pitch on the left hand side of the site, unfortunately the back of our caravan was only about 10 feet from the road and people use this road like a race track. A guy in the neighbouring caravan said it was like trying to sleep on the hard shoulder of the M1.
There are a couple of places to eat, one is directly over the road and is called the Coach House, there is a pub up a hill about 300 meters away called the White Horse Hotel I would avoid this if you have children, the staff are really miserable, also they do not take credit cards.
In all a very nice well maintained site in the middle of small village in the Yorkshire dales.
