We stopped off here for a couple of nights on the way back to the channel crossing. Set in an orchard, with bags of apples being collected for the cider, the site is at the top of a wooded hill on the edge of forest.
Services are clean and modern; the covered pool was a good place to unwind. Unusually, reception is in a wooden cabin at the entrance; there's another which acts as bar and snack bar, serving up those huge portions of moules-frites. (Honestly, one between two really is enough).
Fuel and shops in Brionne, just beyond Le Bec with its beautiful abbey - you can hear the bells from the campsite. For a hypermarket, its a little further to Bernay. There are two main routes to the site, both quite narrow. The easiest is from J13 on the A28, while the other winds up the hill from Le Bec Hellouin. I'd happily spend a week here, given the right weather.

This is an excellent, friendly site. The covered pool is good (initially it seems a little cold) and the croissants/pain in the morning all good value. It's worth trying the owner's cider - very good indeed. The pitches are generous and we were allowed to choose our own, which was refreshing.
There is a good mix of mobile homes, tourers, tents and caravans, many staying just for one night as the site is well-placed for breaking the journey from the south. But the site is worth a longer stay, as Le Bec Hellouin (Abbey) is 1. 2km away and if you have cycles, there's a wonderful route down the old railway nearby.
Thoroughly recommended.

We returned to Camping St Nicolas after 4 years with some trepidation having read about the recent changes. We needn’t have worried. Ok it’s bigger, busier, and not quite as quiet as it used to be but the site still stands head and shoulders above many others we have visited.
As before the main camping field is a mix of tents, caravans and motorhomes. The pitches are large and well marked out with good access to electric and water points. The centrally located toilet and shower block is still very well maintained and cleaned regularly. There’s a small number of static caravans available to rent on the main site; other privately owned ones are in a separate field. The new pool, snack bar etc are located near the entrance to the site and we didn’t hear any noise from them at all.
We normally avoid campsite snack bars but decided to try the ‘moules frites’ here one night, not expecting much. Turned out they were absolutely delicious, the best we had in a fortnight across Normandy and Brittany where they were absolutely everywhere! €11. 50 including a glass of wine.
The owners are pleasant, sociable people who are on site from morning til night. It was nice to see the previous warden of the municipal site still there, although she told me this would be her last season. Yes the prices have gone up slightly, we paid €18. 60 per night for two adults in a tent with electricity, but this still represents excellent value.
What used to be a small epicerie in the village is now a creperie/tea room. It wasn’t much of a shop to start with but there’s now nowhere that I could see in the village to buy basics. We mainly shopped at the Carrefour supermarket across the river in Brionne. The restaurant opposite the entrance to the abbey is also now a creperie where we had a good lunch.
We were very glad we had gone back to Camping St Nicolas and will certainly do so again.

This is a very pleasant, clean campsite which has a considerable throughput of stopover traffic. The on site catering is limited but of excellent quality. The moules frite at €7. 50 was too much for two people who had spent the day cycling and were starving!.
There is a start of a 42km voie vert in the village which goes right through to Evreux. However I would advise you to drive to the start rather than cycle from the campsite. There is a long, long hill down into the village which is wonderful except when you are returning home.
If you are staying more than one night then places like Port Audemer and Honfleur are within striking distance. Get a blue parking disc from the tourist offices in order to get 1. 5 hours free parking in the blue zones. Normal parking spaces are like hen's teeth.
Well worth staying here and it is part of the ACSI scheme.

Lovely little site which sadly we only used for an overnight stop but would like to return in the future to explore the area. We were made welcome by the friendly owners and clean facilities. Bread available to order.
We used ACSI card so it was only 12 euros for two, excellent value. There were some statics in the adjoining field and it looked as though the ground was being prepared for more. There is a new covered swimming pool which looked very nice although we didn't use it.

I have stayed on this site many times but was somewhat dismayed this year to find that the hidden gem was in the process of change. Fortunately, the delightful, helpful French couple were still there as wardens but the site is now privately owned.
Statics had appeared and the football field was being measured for many owner statics next season. A covered swimming pool will also appear and the prices will no doubt rise.

We stayed here for 3 nights in early July. Everything is neat and tidy and the toilet blocks are modern and clean. The pitches all seemed to be pretty flat and grassy. There is now a small open-air bar and a little shop for the basics.
Frites now available freshly cooked to order. Bread and pastries available for 8. 15 am delivery if ordered the previous night. New managers who seem very friendly and live on-site in a mobile home, so that's good for security and any problems you may have.
We used the site as a base to visit Monet's Gardens at Giverny and also Honfleur. It worked well on both counts. There is an ancient abbey (still active) in the village from which William the Conqueror selected two abbots to be his first two Archbishops of Canterbury.
The village is quite pretty and there are two or three restaurants which other campers seemed well-pleased with.

Be warned folks, the site is no longer cheap. Whilst we were there it went from being a Municipal Site into private ownership. Cost for 2 adults & caravan, electricity & 2 dogs approx 19 euros a night. Several statics have been added. Also rallies appear to be encouraged.
The facilities were modern & immaculate but there were no washer/driers even though there were signs for them (perhaps in the future). The reading room was still there and a new - perhaps cafe/bar was in the process of being built in a chalet.
The walk down the very steep & uneven path to Le Bec Hellouin was too much for me (I have Menieres disease) & we had to visit the lovely Abbey & quite pretty village by car each time. I thought that the village lacked a good cheap place to eat - sandwiches etc. There is an epiciere that had been doing that sort of thing but it is closing down.
It was ok but I wouldn't visit again.

We stayed here on an overnighter with two other families. It was charming. Couple running site nice although their English very limited. Ample size pitches with electricity. Toilet block very clean with plenty of showers. Small play area for children and a tennis court for the more active! Possible to buy bread, croissants etc on site but need to order the night before.
We took a late night walk into bec hellouin which we only wished we could have spent more time in as everything closed although the local abbey did have plenty of bats!
Highly recommended for an overnighter and all for less than 18 euros for 3 people!

We stayed at this site on our way back from Landes. The previous reviewer summed it up perfectly. This is a great little site. If you turn right out of the site there is a great walk into the village. You come to a T junction after about 1/2 mile. Turn left and it takes you down into the village with wonderful views of the valley on the way. There is a marked path on the opposite side of the road to the entrance that also takes you down. It is an easy path but don't do it in flip flops. Quite up hill on the return journey.
We had a really good 4 course set meal in the village for 17.50. House wine 10.00 for the bottle. Same place as the previous reviewer by the sound of it.
About 5 miles from the motorway so definitely an ideal stop off.
