This is an idyllic under used site ideal for those who want a quiet pitch with no noise from other campers. The site has 5 pitches for caravans with hook up and two separate fields for camping. We stayed on the top field with a caravan for two weeks and were sorry to go.
The views are stunning, the facilities in a shed were basic but always clean and due to the small quantity of campers there were no queues! There are two showers for each sex costing 50p per shower. We thought we could shower an adult and child for 50p but could not quite manage it due to sandy bodies from the fabulous beaches at Studland.
You can hear the steam train which runs from a 10 min walk away and we used this facility to go into Swanage for meals when we could not agree who was going to drive! The site also has two fridges which was extremely useful as our battery did not last long and had to be constantly charged every few days.
Perhaps not the site for those who like modern facilities and /or those who aren't completely mobile as the site is sloping and you will have to walk to get water and go to the loo etc. We will go back but this time we will book earlier and book electric.
For the kids there is not play park but a rope swing seemed to keep them amused and gave them the important focal point at which to meet others. A definite gem in the most beautiful area - you will not have time to visit everywhere in 2 weeks, we met people who had been returning every year for thirty years!

As a first time camper I loved this quiet uncomplicated site. It reminded me of sites from my childhood but with better shower and loo facilities.
A basic but friendly site, I met up with friends and camped in the top field with oodles of space albeit on a slope. The walking is accessible, the dogs loved it. All in all a quiet peaceful break but not to far from civilisation should you need or want it.
PS good fish and chips in Swanage!

A great campsite to just turn up at, we have never been let down even at times when all other sites are full. It has one toilet block which has been refurbished since we last stayed and and was immaculately clean.
The four showers in an old cattle shed cost 50p for 5 minutes and have also been re-tiled.
The bottom, all summer, field was a lush green and busy, but we were still able to find a quiet spot about 20m from anyone else.
The massive upper field had just opened for the high season and, due to the rainy weather this summer, had only just been cut for the hay crop.
A quiet, spacious, basic but clean campsite with great views and lots of walks.

We stayed here for 3 nights in July. This is a nice basic campsite, perfect for a few nights stay.
There is a grassy field at the bottom of the hill which is mostly sloping but had the occasional flatter bit. This field is nearer the facilities so is where most people choose to stay. It is pleasant enough but misses out on the views from the upper field.
We chose to stay on the top field, which is a slope all the way, but we did manage to find a not too steep area to pitch on. Being further up did give us a lovely view of the hills and the sea in the distance but did mean it was about a 10 minute round trip to the loo. The walk was obviously enough to put most people off as there were only half a dozen tents in the top field so the kids had loads of room to run around and kick a ball.
The toilet block had three loos for each sex which were always clean and had loo roll and soap most of the time. There are also 2 showers for each sex which cost 50p for 5 minutes, which were also clean but basic, but with enough room to change and a few hooks on the back of the door for clothes.
There are two fridge freezers for freezing ice blocks and can also be used for food so we froze pints of milk overnight to keep our coolbox cool the next day.
There is no shop but a mobile shop visited the bottom field every morning but we did not use this.
At night time the site was lovely and quiet, no loud music or noisy neighbours and far enough from the road to not hear any road noise.
There are also glimpses through the trees of the passing steam trains, with Harmans Cross station being a few minute walk down the road.
There is also a lovely playground next to the station which we visited every day with our two little ones, and there is a car park you can use opposite for £1 in an honesty box.
The area is lovely and the views from the tent were amazing. However as the site charges per person £6 per adult and £3 per child, this worked out at £18 per night for us. I know this is still cheap, but I think there are other sites in the area that would cost similar and possibly have slightly better facilities for the money.

This is the 3rd time we have been to this site with friends and we love it. It is basic campsite with basic toilets and showers, but they are always well cleaned.
Beautiful views from both fields although we tend to camp on the bottom field as it is less slopey.
It is a family friendly site and very reasonably priced compared to other sites in Swanage and would recommend it.
You are not aloud open fires but bbq's are permitted and the wardens are friendly and helpful.
There is a shop van that comes around with basic supplies each day and you can order fresh breads and news papers for the following morning which is really nice.

We found this site by accident after trying to find Acton Field. I must say I am pleased I found it.
I found the owners chatty and friendly. The rates are per person and was very reasonable indeed. The site is sloping but we found a flat spot for our tent.
Loos and showers are basic but were very clean, not falling apart so I have no complaints there. Its a large site that seemed to be nice and relaxed, people were quiet too. Has a rope swing for the kids.
Only downside I would say is that there's a field of cows that moo all the time, but I just embraced the widlife. I could hear a donkey and an owl at night too (not a downside!)
If you want somewhere quiet just to do some proper camping then this is ideal. Well worth the visit.

First time camping and had a great time. We were due to go somewhere else however got there and all booked, by chance we came across Primrose Hill Farm and glad we found it.
Facilities were basic but clean, the only thing missing was a shop but you could store cold items in 2 fridges on site. Also a mobile shop did come to the site in the mornings.
We could choose from 2 fields with plenty of space but we went for the field closest to the facilities.
The only downside was a a group of men who were a little loud coming back from the pub and started to play musical instruments in the early hours of the morning!
All in all great stay, beautiful part of Dorset - lots to do near bar, can recommend walking in Worth Matravers, followed by a pie and pint at the Square Compass.

Found this site by accident when trying to camp at Downshay Farm which was full. Just a short trip up the road was this quiet and relaxing site.
The two main fields are on the hillside but I had no problem finding a reasonably flat lie. The facilities are on the basic side but are well maintained and of a good standard.
There are two upright fridge freezers which were well used, 4 showers, 3 cubicles in the mens toilet (the same for the ladies I presume?), a metered 3 pin socket by the washing up for hair drier etc.
I had a lovely 3 night stay and would go again. Perfect for that 'get away from it all' detox stay.

We love this site because it is on a farm, not well known and extremely spacious. It has limited, basic, clean facilities -3 toilets per gender and 4 showers on a converted animal shed. Washing up facilities are in a tractor shed which is adequate for the purpose and adds a certain rustic charm. The only down side here was there was no light when we visited last August and it was getting dark quite early.
The views are a fantastic backdrop to look at whilst relaxing and reading book.
From July 27th there is an additional, fairly slopping filed in use which gives loads of space to spread out.
This is ideal for campers looking for rustic charm, a laid back no need to book approach to camping. It is no good for anyone wanting all mod cons and TV culture.

This site is useful in that it may have some availability when most of the others in the area are fully booked in the busy months. That's partly because it's quite hard to find on a single track road off the main Swanage-Corfe Castle main road at Harman's Cross.
The facilities are basic but adequate and represent good value for money. For £5 pp/pn you get a clean toilet block, 20p shower blocks, dish washing facilities, a 20p 240v electric socket for emergency phone charging / inflating beds etc, and a couple of fridge-freezers free of charge where you can store your food and freeze your cool blocks.
There is no camp shop, but 15 mins walk away is Harman's cross and a couple of Petrol Station/Shops that are well stocked.
The site is split into 2 fields (for tents) and there's a fairly significant slope and few locations that are truly flat. The pitches are not marked so grab what you can.
The location is really nice, with Harman's Cross a short walk away with the Swanage steam railway station giving a route into Swanage or to Corfe Castle the other way.
By walking down the hill towards Harman's Cross you see a public footpath to the left signposted to Woodyhyde, with truly spectacular views of the steam railway, Corfe Castle and the downs in the background.
If you don't want to cook, the best local pubs for food are the Castle Inn in Corfe Castle, or the Halfway Inn the other side of Corfe Castle.
All in all this site a good option for those turning up on a budget, not needing any frills or when availability is low elsewhere.
