A fabulous site in the beautiful Dordogne. It was our first visit to the area and we were not disappointed. The campsite was well laid out, clean and immaculately maintained by the hard working staff - who turned their hand to anything!
The owners have made the 'Nook' into a lovely bar/restaurant, and the food was excellent. It was also a great place to hide from the massive thunderstorm we experienced!
The pool and grounds were super, although I would say that the site is more suited to families with younger children, say under 10's, due to the facilities available. I wish we had been here when our children were younger.
You will have a great time here, but make sure you bring enough money as the bar food is very tempting.

I don't really want to leave this review because we want to return here next year and are worried that it may be booked solid before I can book my annual leave at work!
If you have pre-teen children this site is perfect in every way, good range of play equipment, lovely pool, a really laid back relaxed atmosphere that the super friendly owners work hard to achieve. Good home cooked food at the bar, clean showers and some great fun activities (cooking marshmallows on bonfires, boules tournament etc)all in the spectacular Dordogne.
Our children were in heaven all week, they made loads of new friends and could wander around in a really safe environment. Happy children = relaxed happy parents!
We will definitely return, this campsite is just perfect!

This site has become a firm favourite, having visited two years running. (See my review for last year. ) A completely relaxing holiday and an absolute antidote to the rat race. Our boys, 8 and 13, love this place, and so do we. The layout, size and aspects like the BBQ, campfire and boules tournament make for a very sociable atmosphere. It has excellent facilities and yet is small and friendly. Fantastic, relaxed hosts, Patrick, Natalie, Ben, Sacha, Alex, Rosa & Maisie the dog provide something quite unique and special in this stunningly beautiful part of France.

I kind of don't want to publicise this place but it would be rude not to!
Domaine des Mathevies lives up to its high rating and cool camping inclusion - its fab.
27 pitches - almost all used by tents, although 1 caravan is here and a couple of camper vans all down at the far end away from the play areas. Also 5 or 6 chalets and a gite.
Pitches are large and all with electric - we have a Vango Airbeam 8 man tent, with porch and a sun shade and fit all this on plus our car. Our pitch (3) is at the top of the play area, slightly sloping pitches (really quite minimal) with good shade. There is noise for these pitches with the bar/restaurant at nights so choose elsewhere if you want quiet early nights. Flat pitches I would recommend are down to the side of the pool (7, 8, 9, 10). All pitches have good shade/sun mix. Nobody here does early mornings, seems everyone including all the small kids don't surface till at least gone past 8am.
Pool is great, decent size, but quite chilly when you first get in. Play area okay - its hard to cater for all ages but the kids use all the stuff. Tennis court in good condition, table tennis and badminton areas.
Toilets are mixed use - 3 loos and 3 showers - never had to wait and always clean, just a little bit of grass in the showers but you wash that away. Washing machine and freezers available.
Eco rubbish disposal - separate your rubbish out.
Bar and restaurant is perfect, small menu of easy food, not expensive, keeps things simple. Croissants, bread, pain au chocolate etc is ordered the day before and then you collect from the bar each morning @ 8. 45 if you want. Weekly BBQ laid on - choose your menu and then cook yourself on their grill and sit with everyone at long tables.
Patrick and Natalie - the owners - have been very intelligent with this site. It's extremely safe, the kids can go everywhere safely, no cars bombing about, and you know everyone on the site so quickly that you don't worry about strangers. They have not been over ambitious with the bar or menu, its simple and good quality, good price and doesn't stretch them or their overheads. By organising the bread delivery daily, setting up the DIY communal BBQ, having Maisy the campsite dog available to everyone to walk, and being excellent relaxed hosts they achieve what most campsites don't. Somewhere you want to stay, don't feel like you're being ripped off, feel like everyone around is a mate, whilst they have time during the day and night to answer all your questions or just have a chat.
I can't rate it more highly, and I wish more campsite owners would approach the business of owning a site in this way, its refreshing, different to any other site we've been to and bar far and away the very best.
We will return without doubt.

Anybody thinking or have booked for Domaine Les Mathevies, We can thoroughly recommend the place.
Excellent for children, very child friendly and safe.Lots of children's toys, trikes, play houses, adventure play area.
We have no children with us, but it's also very peaceful if you want.
We are there at this moment and although there are quite a few young children here it's still quiet and relaxing.
It's a small site with very friendly and helpful owners (Patrick & Natalie.)

I concur with everything that has already been said. I would find it difficult to fault this immaculate rural family campsite that is in the most beautiful location.
The place is clean and very child friendly without being over commercialised. Lovely clean swimming pool etc Plenty to do in the area and the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. You are guaranteed a very warm welcome.
Will certainly be back. If you are looking for a little bit of heaven-its here!

This is a relaxed, friendly campsite in beautiful surroundings. We arrived towards the end of the season so the campsite was extremely quiet, but that was great for us. We don't have children but it would be very safe for kids being completely enclosed with no busy roads nearby, and a swimming pool, sandpit and lots of space to run around in.
The owners are really friendly and immediately made us feel very welcome. They have made the campsite feel very homely and there is a lovely bar area which was great to sit in when the evenings were too chilly to sit outside. All communal areas were clean and pleasant. There is plenty to do in the surrounding areas, particularly if you are willing to take a car out. However, there are also plenty of walking and cycling routes, mostly offroad, which we made great use of.
We loved this site, particulary for its' peaceful surroundings and welcoming feel. We arrived planning to stay for 3 nights, ended up staying for over a week and will return when we can!

With no reviews of this wonderful campsite when we booked we wondered what we would find but nous avons eu de la chance! Sheer bliss! Our boys, 12 and 7, had the freedom to play and make friends amongst the playground, ping pong, tennis, pools, treehouse, sandpit and beautiful surroundings. We all loved the campfire, bbq, boules tournament, taking the campsite dog for walks, picking blackberries and enjoying the company of the wonderfully welcoming owners and our fellow campers. The facilities were clean, bright and plentiful with added touches such as fresh sunflowers and handmade mirrors. When not on site there is plenty to do - fishing (yummy bbq trout!), canoeing (very safe for all the family), go-ape style adventures, swimming in the Dordogne and, of course, the stunning scenery, villages, chateau etc. The young English/Aussie owners have done so much to transform this previously neglected site so if you do find old reviews on the internet don't believe them! If you're looking for a simple, relaxing holiday in this spectacular part of the Dordogne, this is the place for you.

We visited this delightful site at the beginning of July-the hosts were very friendly and always there for us- the chalets were spotless and well equipped- the campsite was well maintained-the pool was very clean- We ate there a couple of times in the evening-The food was well presented and very good. The hosts take pride in their campsite and give advice on what to see and do in the area- The surrounding area is one of the nicest in France, a stone throw away from Sarlat and Domme with its many shops and restaurants and historic sites. There is also a lot of equipment for young children at the campsite, such as play area, sandpits, tree house- It is quiet and safe and it was a very restful stay. Will go again next year and take a large group of friends from Australia and other countries.

At last, a small campsite (under 30 pitches) with enough facilities to keep our family happy - swimming pool, tennis (free!), terrain de boules, playground etc. There is also a cosy bar /restaurant with simple fresh food, great coffee and home made cakes if you don't feel like cooking.
The terraced pitches are large, nicely laid out and beautifully landscaped with a mix of sun and shade. Even at full capacity the site didn't feel cramped but had an intimate atmosphere. It's really well maintained with a clean and modern sanitary block. Best of all, our kids could roam freely without us having to watch them. No busy roads or through traffic and great for local walks - you can even take the campsite dog along which was a great incentive to get our kids walking. There's plenty to do in the region (canoeing, caves, gardens, markets, fishing, pony riding) and we loved returning back to our little slice of peace and tranquillity after a day's sightseeing.
The only drawback is that there are no shops etc within walking distance. The local village is 1km away and it's a 10min drive to Sarlat and all the supermarkets. However, you can order fresh bread, croissants etc daily as well as milk and yoghurts etc supplied by the neighbouring dairy farm.
Finally, we were especially taken by the personal welcome and genuine care and attention of the young English/ Australian owners. If like us, you are looking for a genuine camping experience in an intimate, relaxed setting without the hype you will not be disappointed. We'll be back.
