 Will not be back.

Toilets were clean when we arrived but they got worse by the day as only the bins were emptied and toilet paper was topped up daily, no shower curtains and no mop so floor always wet.

Good sized hard standings pitches and level grass for tents.

The worst part was only one tap for the whole site to be used for drinking water and cleaning elsan toilets! We did point out that this was unacceptable, but owner was not interested. Said it could take 3 months to get a plumber.

Such a shame as it is in a good area and needs someone to care for the sight and maintain it. I hope no one gets ill from contaminated water. We did not use the tap for our elsan used our own container, however we saw others use it he tap, we did put a container there for others to use but they did not! Good luck campers.

This is a wee gem of a site, located adjacent to the main road sixteen miles short of the Skye Bridge. Now this site at best could be described as basic and run-down and in need of some TLC. It is not a large site and mainly caters for those undertaking the long distance ‘Capewrath’ trail and gives them a place to camp overnight with washing facilities.

There are about a dozen hard standings for caravans and motorhomes and although there are a number of water taps dotted about the site there is currently only one source of fresh water from the tap outside the toilet block. The toilet block incorporates a laundry room but there are no washers or dryers on site merely a Belfast sink that has to be shared with campers who need to wash dishes.

All the foregoing negativity would make this site seem to be worth avoiding which would be a shame. If you are able to overlook the restrictions imposed by the lack of on site facilities then there are a lot of positives.

Firstly the location, surrounded by mountains and adjacent to the long distance trail offering easy access into the adjacent mountains with safe routes to walks dogs. Easy access to the Isle of Skye but more importantly are the mostly over looked are the areas of the mainland adjacent to Skye which offer some spectacular scenery that should not be missed.

Finally the pricing, in general a good £8:00 per-night less than you’d pay for a pitch on a site on Skye where the facilities are little better if not much the same.

Very accommodating for late arrivals, we got here at 9:30 pm

Nicely positioned at GlenShiel

Nice dog walk up the valley

Good value for money

We only stopped for one night, after the ferry to Skye

Perfectly sighted, before the climb away from Lochalsh

Easy to miss, if you are not paying attention

We're just back from 6 days there in our touring caravan. I'll start with the good points: The pitches are gravel and slightly sloping so the rain does tend to drain off. Trust me I know what I'm talking about as it started raining 3 hours after we arrived and did not stop until 12 hours before we left. The site is VERY prone to midges being next to a lovely river.

The electric hook up facilities looked like they had seen better days and the toilet and shower block were a complete nightmare. My fifteen year old son refused to set foot in either due to the large amount of spiders and bugs in every corner on every wall.

Let me say more about the facilities: The toilets were just about clean-ish, the sink were clean but the floor looked like it hadn't seen a mop in days or even weeks. There are no shower curtains in the shower cubicles, so everything you take in will getting either soaked or damp if you don't place it as far away from the shower as possible. At least the water was hot.

There are no flyscreens on the windows and you can't close the external door properly. Sometimes the taps don't turn off properly and it's not uncommon to find one flooding the entire place because they overflow the sinks. The one bin in the ladies was constantly full and there are not bags provided for sanitary items.

The so called laundry rooms has no facilities for doing laundry. No washing machine, no dryer, nothing except one butlers sink for doing the dishes in. This serves the entire campsite.

There are four household type bins at the potholed entrance to the site and no recycling points other than for glass bottles.

The site is circled by either wornout wire fencing or falling down wooden fencing. There are what appear to be a couple of abandoned tents on the grassy area and one inner tent which has been lying outside the toilets the entire time we were there.

There are two permanent caravans on the site which belong to workmen, that way the site never looks empty at least.

We tried to make conversation at the shop/filling station when we got there and later wanted to enquire about fishing. The owner was clearly not interested in any conversation judging by the monosyllabic answers or the: 'I don't know' reply.

So, great site if you are only passing through for one night, it's cheap at under £18 including EHU, awning and dogs compared to other sites. However, 10 minutes of daily 'cleaning' round is obviously not enough and there are really no other facilities at all.

The shop is very expensive as is the fuel (fill up on Skye, much cheaper!) and you won't be made to feel very welcome either but they seemed just indifferent to your presence.

Because of the rain and midges no one lingered much outside, so at least it was quiet at night. The walks up the hills are beautiful with absolutely stunning views.

It's just not enough to ever want to make me go back to that campsite.

A lovely peaceful site. The toilets and showers are cleaned every day and are spotless. The views on the site are outstanding and the site is informal but well run. Much better than the very formal caravan club site nearby. John the owner is very helpful. When our car battery ran flat he instantly called out one of his friends who got us started again. For no charge! You can walk off the site into the glen and up into the hills. This is a really lovely site which is peaceful and relaxing. This is our fourth visit to this site and we will be back as it is reasonably priced and just so lovely.

Stopped one night on this site and that was enough. The midges were the worst here of everywhere we stayed in the area.

The facilities were dirty full of spiders webs and flys if you are arachnophobic this is not the place to stay!

For a one night hikers stop this is fine and is in easy driving distance of eilean donan castle but for a family camping holiday I'd look further down the road.

The pitches were flat and there were brick barbecue areas to use but there is not a huge area for tents to pitch, but as it is a quiet site I cannot see this being a problem.

Lovely little site, close to the road but quiet. Good clean toilets and showers. Not a lot else there but the scenery is great, mind you I had the advantage of high cloud base and no rain. I only stopped one night on the way from Mull to Applecross but it seemed that most people were either serious hill walkers or overnighters and everyone else seemed to have a dog or dogs, but they were not a problem.

Most people had struck camp and left by the time I got up at 7 so early nights and early starts seem to be the rule here

Stayed here for 2 nights in early May, it was quite busy. A lot of the site is given over to hard standing with electric hook up, leaving the camping area quite limited. It is quite boggy in places, but where isn't in Scotland?

Great view from the site of the Five Sisters. Well stocked shop on site, and the village recycling site is on site too, so beware of early morning recycling trucks.

A87 road is within sight and hearing, but not disturbing, and is very quiet at night. Short 10 minute walk to the bar and restaurant at the Kintail Lodge Hotel. Site has a fairly new toilet block, with free hot showers, though these are badly designed as all the water flows all over the floor of the entire block whenever anyone takes a shower, mainly as there is no curtain.

Dishwashing is limited to one sink, in a room labelled 'laundry', I think you are meant to use the standing taps around the site for dishwashing, but these are cold water only. Camping only £5.50 per person per night. Very good area for hillwalking and touring, also pony trekking centre next door. Would stay again.
