We stayed at this campsite last night, and, as other reviewers have stated, the entrance isn't to welcoming, but once on the little site we found it lovely.

The weather during the day was fantastic my one year old and three year old had great fun running around free amongst the chickens!

The site was really quiet when we were there, a couple of other tents and a few caravans. It was our first time camping and the man who greeted us was really friendly, he even made my hubby and I a cup of tea and coffee while we put the tent up (for the first time!).

The showers/toilets are basic but clean considering it is a campsite and not the 5* Hilton. We really appreciated the microwave oven to heat our little ones milk bottle up in - so much easier than boiling a kettle on the fire etc.

This is an ideal site for first time campers to break you in easily, as others have said, could have benefited from a sand pit or slide/swings for the kids, but perhaps they will have them one day.

We will definitely be back

We chose this site because it was cheap for a weekend away with the kids. I liked the idea that there are free range chickens roaming around the site, getting back to nature is what I encourage my kids to do.

On arrival the entrance can be described as nothing more than a mess. It was on quite a slope and the surface was very loose stone which made it difficult to get proper traction with the towing vehicle, especially with a fully laden van.

We were allowed to select our own pitch, which was good. However this was limited due to electrical hook up availability, so basically we had pretty much a choice of one.

The owners seemed very pleasant and happy to offer any help if needed, and assured us if we needed them they were always at hand, this was the las time we saw them.

There seemed to be quite a few contractors permanently sited on the site. They were pleasant enough but some big vans and vehicles were coming and going.

The showers and toilets were a sorry state. Although there were two blocks there was no segregation between sexes. There were no electric has dryers in either block and towels had been left out instead. How long these had been there was hard to say, as to put it bluntly I would not have used them to dry my dog.

There was a little shop, apparently, however I never saw this open.

The electrics on this site were rather worrying. I am a qualified electrician and currently lecture electrical principles and practices. The electrics here did not conform to BS7671 and in my opinion are dangerous.

Sadly I will not be visiting this site again.

Our first time camping and thoroughly enjoyed staying at this site.Very friendly atmosphere and laid back style.

The entrance is a bit scruffy but once on the camp field its lovely. The kettle was a brilliant added touch, and eased us into morning coffee camping style.

Toilets were basic but very clean, and my son loved the chickens.

Will definitely go back.A kids play area would give this site 10/10

We were there for Easter week, and although there were some noisy campers they did keep to themselves. After the Bank Holiday when they left we had a great time with the site almost to ourselves for 4 more nights,

Linda & Paul are a very friendly couple, who looked after us very well,

We will be using the site a lot more as it is only a short distance from home, and ideal for a week end away.

We look forward to going again.

We visited in late March 2011, owners in mid landscaping. Site was not officially open, but they gladly put us up for 2 nights, and were the only site in the local area that would. The free roaming chickens were fun, no disturbance; very quiet site, great big star filled night skies. Great location for Porthcawl and its surfing beaches at Rest and Sker. Very friendly and warm welcome by the owners.

First impressions were bad the entrance looks like a yard covered in chickens, though after navigating past the chickens, the camping area was very pretty, recently turfed and with low trees and shrubs that I'm sure will grow in and just get better and provide a bit of privacy.

The washing up, toilets and showers are contained within what I can only describe as a raised portacabin with steps up, these were all clean and tidy (only niggles were step into washing up area moves, the small corner shower on the left the hot and cold are the wrong way round on the lever leading to a nice cold shower on day 1 till I figured it out, beware this also means water is scolding hot when turned full towards cold, at night motion activated lights that covered the bathroom steps didn't pick me up till I was down them already maybe it's because I'm short).

Had a great time for the first few days, pitches were small and quite jammed in but other campers were friendly, considerate and quiet.

Then landed a large group approx 20 who spent all day and half the night blasting music, drinking, swearing, shouting, and letting the children run riot, (and no I'm not a prude it was just easier to get to sleep with tens of thousands at Donnington or Knebworth festival).

The tidy bathroom blocks were soon flooded, soap vanished, toilet roll was chucked round the floor or non existent, dirty clothes were dumped in the shower areas it was like a tornado had hit them.

After several complaints still they remained and continued after several 'telling off's', after 3 nights of very little sleep could take no more and left, such a shame can see great potential in this site and with strict rules and good management it could be a lovely friendly family campsite.

We stayed at this site for a weekend and were a little put off by the condition of the entrance into the site. This was completely overshadowed however by the helpfulness of the owners, beautiful surroundings and friendly(ish) chickens.

Linda explained that they were increasing the toilet & washing facilities which is why the entrance was a bit messy. She was very apologetic and made sure we had everything we needed to get set up. We made use of the ice block freezing facility and were told of local places to see or visit.

The facilities were a little basic, but as long as you have clean toilets and hot clean showers that will always be enough for me. The dish washing room also had a kettle, toaster and fridge, which was a fantastic touch.

This is a beautiful site in a quiet and peaceful area and Linda & Paul deserve to do well, even if this means the site might not be so quiet and 'overlooked' the next time we go to stay.

I have just returned after a 4 night stay. I have to say when we first turned into the site, my heart sank, I was tempted to drive straight out and find somewhere else. We were shown to our pitch, which was a bit boggy due to the heavy rain the night before & decided we'd give it one night and see how things went.

The site is very basic, no play area for the kids etc. But it was the facilities that changed my mind, again they were basic, but very clean & the water was hot. It was nice to have a kitchen area with kettle, toaster etc. There was a feeling of trust on the site, people had plugged in mobile phones into the kitchen & left them to charge. The little shop there was un-manned, you just go in choose your stuff then write it down and put your money in the box, it was a nice feeling. The chickens are naughty & don't mind coming into your tent and pecking at your food, unfortunately I had my 7 month old dog with me & he just wanted to bark at them, although he did settle after the first day.

There are lots of nice areas around the sight, my favourite was Rest Bay, a lovely flat beach & even on a bank hol weekend it wasn't crowded, loads of room for the dogs to run about & rock pools that the kids loved. We tried ogmore castle but the car park there is tiny & it was very busy, will try it next time.

Even after first impressions I would definitely go back there. The owners were nice & the whole place has a laid back feel to it. I just hope they find the time to clean the front area up.

A wonderful little site. Linda is working hard to get the separate ladies toilet/showers ready for the main season next weekend: it will be lovely when she is finished. The little touches for those with small children are there - a 2 in one toilet seat on one of the toilets so that the little ones can wee in comfort; a step so litle ones can reach the taps.

It was great having a kettle to use in the kitchen and to have access to a fridge.

The chickens are cheeky and have no qualms about nosing around the tent - keep your food packed safely (and of course the cockerel will crow early in the morning).

We had torrential rain whilst we were there and though the ground got a bit boggy the drainage seemed to be good.

This is definitely not a posh site but we loved it nonetheless.

We visited Port Talbot as we had surfing lessons booked for the kids from Aberavon Beach - this was a 30 min drive away through some lovely little back roads (the joys of SatNav taking you places you would never normally go). Port Talbot was not the prettiest of resorts but the beach itself was nice.

We also visited Ogmore Castle and stepping stones - this is a lovely ruined castle with pub at the top of the hill and tea rooms - can definitely recommend to those who have dogs with them as it is a lovely area for a walk (and the kids loved the stepping stones).

What a great site - tucked away, surrounded by fields. A small friendly site and a real find. I wasn't sure when we pulled up as it looked a bit unkept and kind of thrown together but that's because its a new venture and is still evolving.

Yes the pitches could have been marked out clearer, yes the hot water could be everlasting for the showers, yes the track could have been tarmac and not bumpy stones and yes two loos and showers probably aren't enough for the site.

But hey, we paid £15 for a super size pitch with an electric hook up - you cant go wrong for that price. The owners are laid back and so is the site. Chickens roam free, dogs are welcome, children hook up and play, a communal kitchen with a fridge and a kettle and just a real relaxed atmosphere and setting that I don't think you can put a price on.

The owners supply picnic tables and these can be a real focal point. We had cracking neighbours both nights we stayed and had a few drinks and a laugh too.

We haven't finished exploring the area yet, the scenery is amazing - hills one side and beach / dunes/ cliffs the other. We met our camping neighbours the next day at the beach on Ogmore on Sea - what a find. Rockpools, miles of sand and again, perhaps its a Welsh thing - every one just so friendly.

We drove from there through Southerndown along the coast road. Sheep roam free and the views are breathtaking. We stopped for a late lunch at a cafe at Ewenny, next door to a Pine Shop, just in a pull in near the Ewenny Pottery. Cracking food - good quality, portion size, range on menu, price and great service too.

Would definitely go back there.(just googled it, it called The Village Diner on the B4265 / CF35 5AP for your Sat Nav)

All in all a good value site in a great area - we will be returning.
