Our group have now been to Kitts four times, and each member of the group thoroughly enjoy the experience each time, adults children and dog!
The owner is very friendly and accommodating, and the local pub which is only a short walk through some woods is spectacular on all counts, locally sourced food and drinks, friendly staff and locals! The beer garden is beautiful too.
The campsite is large enough so you don't feel penned in by other campers and the kids have great fun on the rope swings. The facilities are good, although you do need to go for a shower quite early before all the hot water is used, as it is heated by solar panels and often runs out quite early meaning very limited hot water for showers or washing up.
Plenty of fire pits on the site and the cost of the wood is very reasonable.
We look forward to going back again, and for the very warm welcome we always receive.
For overall experience this site can not be faulted!

We visited Kitts Cottage Camp a few weekends ago. Our group consisted of 9 families.
What is good about this site is you are given your own area and not squeezed in. They are also accepting of large groups who want to just relax and enjoy their camping without worrying about noise or your kids annoying those next to you.
The campfire is fab (owners will supply wood for a small cost) and a big part of the camping experience. This does make it quite expensive but I think worth it for the experience.
The owners are very chilled out and come round for the money at some point.
The toilet and showers are basic and solar heated so best to have a shower in the afternoon! Also a few washing up sinks.
We mainly stayed on the site however there were walks directly off the site. There was also a pub a short walk away although we did not visit as did not think it was fair for a party of 36 people to descend on them!
There is an area of trees where the kids can play which has rope swings etc. Although they are not meant to play in the woods as this is private land. Due to the space there is plenty of room to play sports.
Haywards Heath was not far and shops were found about a 10 minute drive away.
Overall a lovely weekend with luckily good weather and shooting stars!

We have just returned from a weekend at Kitts camp. It is a beautiful setting with lots of space which the kids loved.
It is very expensive though. We paid £40 a night for 2 children and 2 adults. This is not a justified price. Men queue for the toilet first thing in the morning and toilet paper ran out. Hand soap ran out in ladies loos. Not acceptable when camping.
I am not convinced about the issue of taking your rubbish home with you is an eco one, more like a cost saving one. On a hot weekend, with stinking rubbish and attracting wasps. Not pleasant. A small bag of firewood costs £5 and does not last long.
As a hardened camper for many years I found it hard to swallow how much we paid for a campsite with such little overheads. Feeling you have been ripped off does not make for a satisfying break. Yes it is a nice location, but so are many others in the south of England.

Made our reservation by phone & had to send a 50% balance by cheque! We were not allowed to arrive before 15. 00hrs. On our arrival we were met by James who is the owner and a very nice man.
The site is split into 3 fields with all the pitches acquiring plenty of space.
We had only adults in our group & James seemed to organise the site so that adults only were not in the same field as those groups with small children ( nice touch ).
James was very knowledgeable of the local area and helped us out on a route for a walk we were taking.
The ablutions were basic but clean, the hot water was a bit intermittent due to the solar power & I wasn't keen on having to take all the rubbish with us
All in all we would go again

A really lovely campsite set in woodland. We went in a group of ten families with children ages from between 2 and 11. The children loved playing in the woods and there are rope swings and plenty of places to play hide and seek.
James is very friendly and helpful and put us in a lovely corner of the site which was partly shaded and part sun.
It was fantastic to have a proper camp fire and you must buy wood on the site, although the bundles are quite small and didn't last that long.
The facilities are quite basic and there are 3 toilets and 2 showers per sex. We found that you had to use the shower early (before 8am) or the hot water had run out. The water was heated by solar energy so there wasn't always hot water at the washing up area.
We had a fantastic time here, it is a relaxed site and we will hopefully return.

A lovely basic campsite.
The new washroom facilities are great and never overrun as the chap who runs the site never overbooks it, even on bank holiday weekends and he's very friendly and helpful.
Well worth the couple of quid extra for the lovely location and campfires. A couple of rope swings and a campfire are all our two needed (12 and 10yrs).
The blue bell railway just down the road and a short walk to a good pub serving decent food.
I Would definitely go again and recommend it whole heartedly.

I almost don't want to review this site in case it adds to the popularity and the site becomes too over-subscribed or expensive!
We visited Kitts Cottage in August 2011, with our family and two other couples with kids. James gave us a perfect pitch which basically gave us our own corner, with a rope swing and large fire area and some treeline where the kids could climb the trees but we could still see them.
The showers and sinks were a recent build and were very clean and well presented (and just a 20sec walk from our pitch!)
James was very friendly and welcoming, he also seems to have something to do with the pub near the campsite (The Sloop). There are some site rules around amplified music but we kept it at a respectful volume and the site were relaxed about it.
We really enjoyed our weekend there, the site was quiet and a real contrast to camping in large open fields with rows of caravans and other tents.
The site like you to buy at least one bundle of sustainable firewood every night, for £5. To be honest, it doesn't go very far, so budget for this as you can't take dead wood from the forest areas. Or do what we did and bring a boot full of old timber left over from ripping out a roof in a building project (we still bought one bag of wood a night though, to help the site).
Oh. There is a nice Woodland walk to The Sloop pub which made for a very nice Saturday afternoon stroll
Will visit again and recommend strongly.

I spent a weekend in July at this site with a group of 17.
The site has 2 large camping areas and one small area. The site is surrounded by woodland. The site is well set back from the road so there is no traffic noise. Although the road is so rural there is very little traffic to make noise.
When we stayed the site was fully booked yet there was masses of space. The separation of campers was massive.
The new toilet block had proper toilets. Anyone who is sceptical of solar power needs to check out the warm showers! The owners are rightly proud of the new facilities and keep them clean.
Camp fires were welcome and encouraged with deliveries of logs.
James, who runs the site is a very affable and helpful chap. I also spoke to the local farmer's family who owns the land and was struck by the friendliness of them. They really love this land and enjoy sharing it with others.
A short woodland walk from the site is the 'Sloop'. A timeless farmers pub on a quiet country road. The pub is owned by the same people who run the site so they know the importance of being family friendly.
As someone who knows the pub game I was pleased to see an 'off the beaten track' country pub that was thriving with locals and campers in an industry that is sadly in decline. Very friendly staff with smiles for everyone.
There are no shops within walking distance so it is worth bringing kit or stopping at Haywards Heath or surrounding villages for stores.
Both the site and the Sloop command slightly higher prices than some I have stayed in but it is worth remembering that this is a gem of forgotten Sussex in an area of extremely high living and real estate costs and the underdevelopment of the site is well worth the extra couple of quid.

Stayed here with some dads on a break away for 4 nights, we practically had this site to our selves, superbly secluded, clean and actively encourage camp fires !
James who runs the site is superb and the short walk through the woods (7 Mins) was both picturesque and pleasant, and finishes at the Sloop pub which serves superb food delivered by friendly staff all washed down with real ales.
The others in the group all congratulated me for a fantastic find and opted to return for another great weekend. The only downside is there is not many shops around so do your research before you go, but a little tip. If you run out of booze, the Sloop does take outs
The newly erected Wash rooms are clean and have great eco showers and the toilets are clean (this is a pre-requisite from my wife when ever we go camping)so Kitts is sure to keep the ladies happy
If you are wanting peace and quiet among beautiful woodlands and enjoy the crackle of a good old fashioned campfire then book Kitts, you will not regret it.

We chose this site for a spontaneous camping trip to take advantage of the warm sunny weather. Our selection criteria were that it needed to be within an hours drive of home and allow open fires and dogs.
We knew the area so had no problem finding the site. There is a petrol station on the main road (just after the point that you turn onto the smaller country road for the last part of the journey) and this was useful for milk and marshmallows. There are no campsite signposts until the entrance gate so do take directions.
From the side road, the site is located at the top of a gravelled track and really peaceful. There is absolutely no traffic noise. Occasionally you can just catch the distant toot and chug from the Bluebell Steam Railway (well worth a visit, even if just to get a platform ticket to watch the trains and visit the engine shed).
The site comprises two large fields and one small field (in which we camped). There is now a purpose built toilet block (not quite fully open/complete when we visited but it looks like it will be very soon). This has solar panels, so I presume there will be hot water for the showers, and proper toilets. Outside, and under cover, there are two large washing up stations.
There is no reception (or supervision) but James and his wife come round to make sure all is well, collect the money, etc. There is no shop within walking distance so you need to make sure you have essentials such as matches and toilet paper. There is no refuse facility so you need to bag up your rubbish and take it with you. For what you get, some will argue that the site is expensive (£10 per adult, £5 per child, dogs free) but in this part of the country you definitely pay for space and open fires!
The location is fantastic. There are woods to one side and a beautiful common to the other with public footpaths all about. We were lucky to be there at bluebell time and they were majestic. There is loads of room and you can find your own pitch. The firepits are dug out and lined and there are lots of them dotted around. There are a couple of tree swings but not much else to do for children who need entertaining. However, there is so much space, children can easily play ball games without annoying anyone. There are lots of deer in the woods and my dog picked up some tics, so take a removal tool with you if your pooch is prone to collecting them.
Although the campsite is very nicely in the middle of nowhere, it is within very easy reach of lots of interesting places and would make a great location for a family holiday for anyone who wants to get back to 'real' camping. Haywards Heath is a short drive away and has all of the shops and restaurants you might need.
Well recommended!
