Excellent, new site that’s clean & tidy. Modern toilet / facility block including an outside shower (recommended).
Effortless “virtual” check in meant we were setup in minutes from arriving.
Hard standing, level pitches with a dedicated water station easy to access even for larger motor homes.

We were greeted on our arrival with a friendly welcome.
The site had a lovely position with great views.
The shower and toilet facilities were excellent and very clean.
We wished that we were staying longer and would like to stay again.

Stopped here on our way round the NC500 - this was our favourite campsite, really good welcome,
Facilities clean and modern, nice and small site with really friendly feel.
Bonus is the beautiful village just below the site with great pub/restaurant serving local seafood.
Would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.

Lovely little site overlooking the loch.
Arrived at around midday and had the pick of all the pitches.
5 minute walk along the shore to the friendly pub and restaurant.

This site has now had a make over, new toilet block, ehu now added and new pitches
Stayed a few years ago, what a difference
Friendly staff
27 pounds a night well worth it
This site used to be free a few years ago, you had to share with the sheep
Good pub and food near by
Cattle grids to keep out the sheep
Will stay there on my next big motorhome tour

Passed by Shieldag as we stayed here a few years ago.
Camping ground is closed with a notice on the gate saying it's planned to undergo refurbishment Summer 2018, opening Summer 2019, although there were no signs that refurbishment had begun, just sheep munching the grass.
Plans indicated that there would be a number of EHUs and camping pods.

Just a field on a hill behind the main village street but for no-frills camping what more do you need? stand pipe at the gate provides water.
The village public toilets are just down the hill however when I visited the gents was out of order. The females are not busy so are useable if nobody objects.
The camping area is quite stoney so take decent tent pegs. Some of the grass can be soft and has been dug up by camper vans. I saw 3 vans approach the gate and turn away.
Obviously not for them. The local pub is a short walk away and serves good food and a good selection of drinks. The customers are a weird mix of locals and tourists.
I enjoyed an entertaining Monday evening of beer and chat. The campsite is run by a local crofters committee. There are no fees but an honesty box by the gate.
Any money raised goes towards local community events such as pensioners parties. The only downside ? Midges ! I will visit again.

Stayed here one night while on NC500. Fairly level field overlooking the village and loch. Hedges around part of it. Donations box on the gate.
Water tap is the only facility. Public toilets down steep path approx. 100m which stay open all night - cleaned in the evening. We were enjoying the view until a large motorhome parked in front of us - it was very popular with continental motorhomes when we were there.
Planning permission notice on gate to make into a proper campsite. Lovely walk along peninsula if you take the footpath behind the school. Hotel in village takes dogs in the bar area though we didn't use it.
Salmon smoked in the village is also for sale. Only sound at night was from the merry sailors moored on the loch singing 'Over the sea to Skye' repeatedly - it seemed that was the only part of the song they knew!

This site is easily overlooked which is a great pity, there's no real change since the last review in 2009 except to say there is a tap outside of the site for motorhomes to fill up.
We also took a pounding from a gale and there are still some ruts left by inconsiderate people. I know it happens, but why not try to fix the ruts when you leave instead of leaving the place in a mess for whoever comes next?
Its a quiet village and there is a great short coastal walk from behind the school opposite the site gate, with elevated views across the Loch and even Eagles to be seen if you are lucky.
Its still donations only but its got to be worth a minimum fiver of anyones money for the views alone.
Great site if you are self sufficient, kind of wild without being wild.

Stayed here for one night on the way north and loved it. It is a crofter's field at the top of the village. No fixed fee - there is a donation box on the gatepost. Site facilities are just the field shared with a few sheep - which is fine by me since I prefer not to pay for facilities I don't need. Have to use the village public toilet down the hill on a steep shortcut path - or use the road. Excellent views of the bay and Shieldaig Island. It's a fairly exposed site - we took an absolute pounding in a gale force 9/10 wind but survived thanks to what shelter there is, plenty of gin martinis and sacrificing the wind break to the gods - so be careful where you pitch. We were the only ones on site but looks like it is used fairly regularly by mobile behemoths given the ruts in the field. Head to the far end of the field for tents only as vehicles can't get that far and the best shelter is probably there - depending on wind direction of course. There is also a pub and shop in the village but didn't check them out.
