This place is just what we were looking for. It's quiet, beautiful and simple. The facilities are basic but they're clean and they work. The pitches are well laid out and spacious, the views are amazing and the owners friendly and helpful. The price is VERY reasonable, no hidden extras for awnings, hook ups or children. An earlier review implies that this campsite is hard to reach, but we didn't have any trouble at all (we came from A171 via Lealholm). It true that the NYM national park has a few steep hills, that's part of its appeal, but our fully laden 40 year old vw camper made it with no trouble, so don't worry, it's no more difficult to access than anywhere else in the Esk Valley. We've already booked to return.

Lovely camp site in a lovely location. About 15 pitches, one of the web sites said five pitches. About a mile to nearest village with a lovely pub. Showers £1 for a short shower with no heating, a bit draughty with very cold floor. The pitch was very reasonable. The owners are both friendly & helpful.

We have just spent three nights at this site and can definitely recommend it. The owners were helpful, the site seemed well kept and is surrounded by the most spectacular views. It had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway break and will most certainly be revisiting in the future! It is near to all local attractions and plenty of superb walks in the area.

Just spent a week at this little gem of a site near to Whitby, North Yorkshire. Don't know just how I found it on the net but I am certainly glad I did. Just 3 miles off the A171 and 1 mile from the quaint village of Lealholm. Although slightly sloping field Martin, the farmer is on hand to help you level up and nothing whatsoever is too much trouble for him. Showers are not 5 star but are adequate. Toilets also adequate and always clean. Other caravanners on the site were regular visitors which speaks volumes.
The Board Inn at Lealholm welcomes dogs and children with well behaved parents and serves excellent food and has a good range of beers etc. There is also a lovely village shop, small petrol station and a post office. Lealholm also has a tiny railway station with trains to Whitby. Tuesday and Friday a mobile fish & chip van comes to the village at 7pm. Overall a great week. Cheers Martin, see you again soon.

We've just returned from this site after a 3 night stay (it should have been 4 but we came away early because of the weather)
We are not people who are used to complaining and usually accept that people are entitled to their opinions but in this instance my wife and I feel we must disagree with many of the reviews on this site.
We chose this site because it had been given 9 out of 10 by most visitors. All we can say is that these reviewers must have stayed at some pretty awful sites.
The good points:
1. The location is picturesque
2. The owner Martin is quite helpful
3 The site will always be quiet and restful
4. Close to Whitby which is a lovely place
5. Good dog walk
The bad points:
1. At £15 a night it is well over priced. (We are not skin flints on occasions we pay over £30 a night)
2. The shower an toilet facilities are awful and the shower is worth nowhere near a £1 a time
3. Far and away the worst part of this site is the road to it. Access is via an extremely narrow road which is over 3 mile long and has a some horrendous up's and downs (Our friends have a 3 litre manual gearbox vehicle and were down to first gear at times and my automatic 4x4 suffered from brake fade due to the descents.

Ahh just arrived back from a 5 day Easter break at Wild Slack Farm. Yes now fully re-charged and relaxed after a wonderful time. Wild Slack Farm is delightfully set in a wonderful tranquil location, and for us could not have been better, having our own children happy to stay at home and not need entertaining, we could self indulge in the glorious views of our surroundings.
The local pub and village are within easy walking distance and serve lovely food and the area has plenty of walks and bike rides at your door.
We are members of the Caravan Club and would recommend this site to anyone.
Not forgetting the lovely owner/farmer, who falls over himself to make sure you are set up easily on arrival and that all is happy with your stay.

We have just returned from a lovely week away at Slack farm. This is a great site with friendly owners and nice clean facilities including showers and toilets. My children really enjoyed meeting all the animals on the working farm and feeding them. The cans are well spaced out and there are great views of the moors from all angles. Some great shops in the little town that's in walking distance too. We will definitely visit again.

Stayed there one night. Site is located in Yorkshire moors, near Whitby. Our pitch was £14, which we thought was a little expensive for it's facilities. Also to be charged for a shower we thought was a little unusual considering it was a CC cl site. Would probably use again if needed. On arrival, not sure where to pitch, as the owner was away in the fields. It was a case of park that is convenient for you, which we did, no problem. It is sighted in beautiful countryside, 15 minute drive from Whitby, although a large rig may find the approach roads fairly tight. On the whole acceptable, except for the pouring rain all night !

Visited this site and stayed for 5 nights in September. A very friendly welcome from the owner, and offers of assistance regarding levelling blocks etc. A basic site sloping in places, but clean and tidy with toilets, showers and washing machines if required. Excellent dog walks from the site, superb views, and a lovely village Lealholm a few minutes walk down the hill, with village shops, tea shops, pub and garage/fuel. Station offering rail service to Whitby and surrounding villages, and local bus service. We will return to this lovely site again as there is so much to see and do in this part of North Yorks. Some level hardstanding plots for motorhomes in inclement weather would be ideal, but still a lovely site.

Just spent one week at this gem of a site. (£12 per night with hook up) As mentioned in previous reviews facilities are basic but are more than adequate, part of the site does slope slightly but help was on hand to level up vans with an array of chocks and ramps. Received a warm and friendly welcome. Did miss the turning for the site though(no sign for site)from A171 travel through Lealholm village (good selection of shops) over the bridge with Board Inn next to it, up the hill next turning on the right signposted Fryup, site on the right about 300 mtrs. The surrounding area is simply stunning if you enjoy a good walk, a good pint and a good meal, BINGO! Did a number of walks from the site, excellent service in all the Hostelries, Arncliffe Arms, Carrs End. Horseshoe Inn, Egton Bridge. Fox and Hounds, Ainthorpe and the Board Inn, Lealholm, all within good walking distance. Would we return in the future? Yes.
