I stayed 5 nights at Abbot Park during the very warm period in July, arriving Sunday and leaving Friday.
The weather was perfect and I was fortunate enough to have the whole site to myself. My plan was to do some cycling in the area and enjoy some well earned 'me time'.
The site is clean and perfectly proportioned, very rural and peaceful with the right balance of facilities, shower, toilets, washing-up area and a tea room where the friendly site owner Carol offers an excellent fry-up for a modest fee.
Out on my bike I stuck mostly to the lanes and the east side of Coniston Lake where there is less traffic. There are plenty of private 'beaches' to swim from on the east side of the lake and water temperature was perfect although I was blessed with glorious warm weather.
There is plenty to see and do in the area, I had the perfect break and look forward to taking my family back soon. Graham Kemp.

We decided last minute to have 1 night camping as the weather was so good and chose this site as it is only about 25 mins from home. Situated on a working farm, the pitches are beautifully kept, showers clean, hot and free, - although there was only 1 male and 1 female they weren't too busy. Two sinks for potwashing.
These were more than sufficient for the number of campers. No facilities as such for children, but within half an hour they had made friends and were all playing together.
Very much out of the way, with no nearby village, shops or pub, but looked great for walking the area or visiting the Lakes. The small tea room offers cooked breakfasts, sausage and bacon buns etc and a selection of cakes as well as drinks and crisps etc, all really well run by the friendly owners.
Access is along some very narrow and steep lanes, but very much worth the effort. Great views from the camping field itself. Will definitely go again!

A fantastic weekend in the southern lakes staying in one of Abbot Park's Bunk Barns. Clean, modern and practical with a wood burning stove allowing for cozy evenings relaxing with friends.
The camp site looked well kept with level pitches and plenty of room/privacy, again with modern shower blocks and washing facilities for pots.
The owner was lovely and very helpful, assisting with pizza emergencies!
The coffee shop on site looks great with all sorts of cakes and treats.
All in all a great place, well priced and with a good location. Will definitely be coming back!

Lovely campsite with modern-clean facilities, we stayed on the barn which was so cosy- wood burner and crafts round the table. The children had an amazing time with the farm animals and kept disappearing to 'check the chickens were okay' tea room / cafe supplied us with freshly cooked breakfast and nothing was too much trouble. We will be back soon
A hidden gem!
This campsite is really worth the extra travel and we access the whole of the Lake District whilst staying there

We stayed here Friday to Monday. We were met by the owner as we arrived and received a very warm welcome. The field was immaculate the showers and toilet facilities are excellent and always stocked with toilet rolls and towels. They were cleaned and checked regular throughout our stay. There was about 9 other tents besides us and although there are only one female one male and one disabled toilet this didn't pose a problem as the site is not over full. We stayed with friends on site and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We visited the tearoom for a cooked breakfast on Monday morning they were very accommodating and did a fantastic job for all 10 of us. We are planning to go again and would definitely recommend this site.

As mentioned in previous reviews this is true gem of a campsite and how camping should be!
My wife and I stayed over the jubilee weekend and had a fantastic stay. The location is amazing with great views over the countryside and excellent facilities.
Carol goes the extra mile to ensure that your stay is as comfortable as possible and cooks a great bacon sandwich in the morning if you want to get out of doing the washing up! In addition we turned up with out any provisions late on a Friday night and Carol provided us with free range eggs /tomatoes and bacon so that we could cook an omelette. Her homemade cakes and flap jacks are also worth buying and kept us going while cycling around Coniston and walking up Scafell Pike.
On the practical side the pitches were level – so no rolling into one another ! In addition there is plenty of room in the field so you have privacy. It is an ideal quiet relaxing site where you can enjoy nature at its best.
The facilities are spotless with plenty of very hot water!
Other recommendations are the butchers in Coniston who provided excellent sausages and steak for BBQs and the tea rooms (poppy red?) in Hawkeshead for a cream tea.
In all a fantastic site / location and facilities – we will definitely be back.

This is our second visit to Abbot Park and it certainly won’t be our last. We absolutely love this site and the surrounding area. Abbot Park is a very picturesque site set within a working farm. The camping field is next to the field with the young animals so you are woken each morning with the lambs calling and the cows waiting to be fed. Chickens and geese are allowed to roam free, but rarely visit the camping field.
There is plenty of room in the field, even when the site is full, which it was on our visit this time. Even though there is only one male and one female toilet and shower (and one disabled toilet) there was never a queue.
The toilet blocks are cleaned regularly by Carole the owner. Carole is very friendly and accommodating and nothing is too much trouble for her. She runs a scrumptious tea room with homemade goodies. (she just needs to advertise it more – it’s a wonder anyone knows it’s there!)
There is no children’s playground, the children made their own fun and had plenty of room to run round. There are no shops or pubs within walking distance. There is a long lane up to the site and I wouldn’t want to walk it in the dark.
However there are plenty pubs around, most doing food. The Manor House at Oxen Park is probably the nearest (approx 1 ½ miles) a friendly welcome, but not big on food when we were there. The surrounding areas have miles of public footpaths making it a walker’s favourite; you can set off from the site and not see a car all day.
There is direct access to the fells. Lots of wildlife can be seen. It would be a great base for sightseeing the Lakes. Overall we love this site and will definitely be back.

There's little to be said here that hasn't already been said in the earlier reviews and so I can only echo the glowing praise that has already been heaped!
It's quite simply a lovely, picturesque and tranquil place to be - sitting as it does in rolling countryside to the south east of Coniston Water.
It's only accessible by foot or from a very narrow road from the tiny village of Brandrake Head. The fact that this takes it off the beaten track only adds to its appeal.
If you want to 'get away from it all' but have the added bonus of clean toilets, hot showers and a small (but inconspicuous) tearoom then this is the place for you.
There is a new toilet block consisting of a separate toilet, shower and wash basin for men and women as well as a disabled block which Carole can open if it gets busy. (Though in the time I was there, no-one else was ever in the block at the same time as I was). There’s also a covered washing up area with two sinks and a separate water tap.
The quality of everything is top notch and stretches to include ‘soft’ toilet paper, shower gel & shampoo, handwash and a regularly replaced hand towel.
The lady who runs everything, Carole, is extremely friendly and makes sure that the facilities are perfectly presented and spotlessly clean. This is made all the more remarkable as she does this on top of her 'day job' - Abbot Park is a sprawling working farm with an assortment of cattle, chickens and goats!
The site is licensed for 12 pitches but the space is such that you are unlikely to be situated close to anyone else. The grass is well manicured and while much of it is on a slope there are flat pitching areas which are conveniently spaced out. Take some sturdy pegs though as the ground is quite stony.
Everything about this site is perfect for those looking for a peaceful break but those looking for ‘artificial’ entertainment should look elsewhere.
From my perspective it is impossible to find fault. I really can't recommend the place enough!

Wow. What an awesome setting. This hill farm is in an utterly beautiful part of Cumbria, very close to Coniston Water, in the southern part of the Lake District National Park.
In such a setting, a campsite could prosper relying on its location alone, but this is not the case here.
We were greeted in a very friendly manner and this warm welcome continued throughout our long weekend visit. The owners truly made you feel at home and were very helpful with any enquiry or requests we had.
The site was (as you would expect) on undulating land but there were sufficient flat areas for the tents and the grass was very neatly cut and the site incredibly clean.
On site facilities included a very clean and tidy toilet/shower block which offered facilities for men and women and also a disabled loo. There was only one loo/shower for each but with a small site this was not an issue.
There was also a washing up area, also in easy reach of the camping area.
As this is a rural location, there are no major shops around but there is a local general stores. We did not use this as we only stayed the weekend so there was no need, so I cannot remark on how good it was. Also there is a nice lookIng tearoom at the farm, but we didn't try this out either.
Overall we were very pleased with this campsite and considered it a true find. We will probably visit again very soon.
A great base for walkers and especially for mountain bikers, a stones throw from Grizedale Forest which also features the popular Go Ape adventure centre.
You'll like it of you like to be on a quiet family type site. We loved it.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this campsite to anyone who likes to get outdoors and have that 'getting away from it all' feeling. After a week of travelling around the Lake District my friend and I stayed at Abbot Park and had the most glorious couple of nights stay.
It is located in such beautiful, peaceful, tranquil and unspoilt countryside.
The campsite / farm owner Carole truly made this camping experience memorable. The tearoom on the campsite is an absolute treasure, where Carole serves wonderful home-cooked food and goes out of her way to meet your food requests.
Carole does a great selection of foods such as cooked breakfasts, cupcakes and the best scones I’ve ever tasted! We would pop over to the tearoom (housed in a beautiful converted barn next to the farm house) for a quick breakfast and still be there 2 hours later, munching on the home-cooked food. Great food and great conversation! Carole was also extremely knowledgeable about the local area and gave great advice about places to visit.
There are stunning views across and down to the surrounding fells and Grisedale Forest. It made me smile just walking to the washblocks, catching glimpses of the ever-changing surrounding landscape. The night skies are truly superb too, with very little light pollution, there are fabulous clear skies to be seen!
The campsite itself is extensive, considering only 12 tents are allowed, you have plenty of space on the campsite. The washblocks are very clean, modern and there is a lovely hot shower. I will definitely be making a return visit next year!
