This was my fist camping holiday for 20 odd years and the fist time my daughters had ever been camping. I was extremely nervous that they wouldn't enjoy the experience and would want to check into the nearest hotel after the first night!
But this was not the case! As soon as we drove onto the grounds of the site they couldn't wait to get the tent set up and get into the camping spirit!
Beautiful, picturesque, quiet, stunning are just a few words to describe the location of Abbot Park. Rolling hills in pretty much every direction you look. The pitching field itself is beautiful to look at, is kept extremely neat and tidy and is well looked after, and wherever you decide to pitch you will not be disappointed.
The washing and toilet facilities are built with traditional slate and give the site an old fashioned but modern feel to it as the fittings are truly wonderful. There maybe only 1 shower and toilet block each for men and women, but when we were there we never had to queue once.
The campsite owner is an absolute angel and will go out of her way to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible.
This is her first year as a site owner and openly admits to 'not being a camper', but she is ever willing to help you out any way she can!
I have rated this site 10 out of 10 in every aspect only because there isn't an option to give it 11 out of 10!

This was my favourite site in 10 days of camping! Carole was really welcoming and helpful, from helping me find my way to the site to helping me sort out where I was going to camp next.
It's in a lovely position with access to Coniston and Grizedale areas but what I did was explore the Furness peninsula to the south by cycle. Ulverston is well worth a visit and the coast is very atmospheric with terrific views over Morecambe bay.
The other people on the site were really friendly, which I've found at other small tent-only sites. The facilities are new and designed to fit in with the existing farm buildings. Nice showers! There's helpful information about where the local shops are, and I can add that if you're heading west, there is an excellent bakery and cafe at Broughton-in-Furness.
This was my first stop on a cycle tour of Cumbria, and Carole's hospitality really got the trip off to an excellent start.

When looking for a camp site to spend the Spring Bank Holiday at, I came across Abbott Park Campsite. The description of the site immediately made me take notice - I was looking for somewhere quiet and natural, without any fancy facilities like games rooms, but clean and modern toilets and wash facilities. And that's what this site has!
Yes, it's hard to find and the directions aren't great. Yes, it's not conveniently located if you are planning on leaving your car at home. Yes, there is only one toilet and shower each for ladies and gents. But none of that mattered!
This site is so naturally beautiful that it doesn't matter that it's in the middle of nowhere. In fact, if it wasn't so isolated, it simply couldn't have the same stunning setting. The owner Carole is very welcoming and we ended up stopping by the farm house most days just for a chat with her.
The facilities are basic in the sense that apart from the two toilets/showers and the washing up shelter there aren't any. And given we were there over the Bank Holiday I was quite concerned about having to share just one toilet with the other (predominantly female) campers.
The quality of these facilities, however, was very good, with free, lovely hot water in the showers. As it turned out, I never had to queue to use the facilities and thus never became an issue. And we never saw so much as a spider's web anywhere.
The site itself isn't very even. But given that Carole strictly limits the number of tents allowed at any one time, there are plenty of even pitches spread around the field, still leaving loads of space (I'm talking 10m+) inbetween tents.
All in all, we loved this site. In fact, we ended up staying 5 nights instead of the 4 we had booked as we didn't really want to leave. This site isn't for everyone - big, noisy groups should probably look for somewhere else, as should parents with kids that need constant entertainment - but for people looking for some peace and quiet in a beautiful setting a short drive from the major tourist attractions of the Lakes, this if definitely a great find! One of those you don't really want to share with others.

I booked this site at the last minute following a spell of good weather and every other campsite in the Lakes being fully booked. It was difficult to find (partly because the directions on the website give a wrong turning) but trust your SatNav and you will find it.
The campsite is a field on a working farm with several flat pitches. When we got there, only three other tents were pitched. The location is perfect if you want to get away from it all and has some lovely views. There aren't any local amenities, except a pub or two which I didn't try. Ulverston is a ten minute drive and has everything you could possibly need.
The site has a new shower/toilet block with one of each, built in slate and kept perfectly clean. I was a bit concerned there would be a queue for each in the mornings, but given this is a quiet site, I never saw anyone use them when I was there. The shower comes free and has lashings of hot water.
The owner is very friendly and clearly new to being a campsite owner (not being a camper herself). She freely admits to being on a learning curve. She will explain, if asked, all about the working of the farm, which this site can sometimes be noisy which cattle and sheep (but not traffic or music). The kids were fascinated with the animals (although there was not much else for them to do).
All in all, I was reluctant at writing a review, because I want to keep this one for myself (but promised the owner I would). I prefer the quiet and remote sites, and this is just about as good as it gets.

We booked on as a group of 5 females, which was no problem to the owners (unlike some other sites in the area!).
The location has stunning panoramic views, on arrival we were greeted by the owners, who were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
The campsite allowed us to have open fires (obviously contained in a drum), which was appreciated given the cold evenings and added a traditional camping feeling.
The main camping ground was very open with plenty of space. The toilet block was well kept and cleaned daily, only 1 toilet and 1 shower. At the time of our stay, there were no washing-up facilities however these were in the process of being built.
The local town had plenty of places to eat and drink, but we didn't try any of the pubs closest to the site.
We all had an excellent time and would definitely stay again and recommend it to a friend.

Set in a beautiful location with fantastic views of open countryside. Good ground for easy pitching (not rocky). Ready supply of hot water in the clean and well constructed toilet / shower block.
During our stay we were able to witness lambing, children had ample space to play without danger. Good starting point walking with many short walks in the local area. Free range eggs available from the farmhouse.
Owners were welcoming and the site overall was clean and tidy. Highly recommended.
