Just stayed at The Old Rectory and can't recommend it enough. Even though the weather wasn't great we had a good time, there are high hedges which give protection from the wind, the facilities are clean and we never had to queue.

You can buy their own eggs, sausages and bacon through an honesty box, the owners are very friendly and helpful, this is out second visit and they remembered us from last time.

Great if you like animals, with chickens, pigs and cows and not forgeting Clyde the resident dog.

Plenty of space will be going again next year

A lovely site with stunning views across the Devon countryside.

There are 2 camping fields, one sectioned off by hedges, providing shelter and some privacy. The fields are on a slight slope but we didn’t find this to be a problem.

The site is quite eco friendly and encourages recycling. The facilities are modern and clean. There is also a fridge selling fresh eggs and home produced sausages (both of which are delicious!) with an honesty box for payment.

If you love animals then you’ll love this place, being a working farm. Friendly chickens and a cockerel roam free and come to say hello every day. You can also hire a chicken coop for the week and look after your own chickens if you want. There are also pigs, cows and ponies to see.

A short drive away is the village of Tavistock which has several supermarkets, a market and various shops and places of interest.

We hope to visit the area again and would definitely choose this place to camp.

We have just returned from a 5 day stay at The old Rectory. We booked an enclosed area, the ground was flat and grounds well kept. Despite 70mph winds and constant rain the site remained well drained with no sign of surface water. The owners were friendly and met us on arrival to ensure we had everything we required and showed us the toilets / shower block. There were fresh eggs bacon & sausages for sale, a small freezer for re freezing our ice blocks (with no extra cost like some sites do), two dishwashing sinks, a washing machine, and tumble dryer. The showers were always clean and tidy with plenty of hot water. The site was tidy and clean with plenty of recycle bins.

The little piglets were great fun to watch, as were the chickens. A kids play area with football goal on a nice grass area away from tents and the road. Great value for money, will be returning to this site again. The only thing I would like to see change is the weather but that is something none of us can do anything about!

Perfect for a one night stay on our way through Tavistock. The owners were friendly and the site is very clean and tidy. Lovely to have pigs to visit and chickens.

We had a hardstanding pitch, with hedges all around, so very private.

Facilities were good, but there needs to be more showers and there was nowhere to put clothes, wash bag etc when you were in them. Inevitable wet clothes from the shower being too near to the door.

I think this would be a good site for children too, although we didn't take any, the ones there all seemed to be having a great time.

Nearby Tavistock is a lovely town with all your needs catered for.

Just back from what can only be described as 2 fabulous nights at the Old Rectory!

My partner and myself stayed in a Pod, which were beautifully located with views of the countryside!

When we arrived we were welcomed by the owner Len and given the key to our Pod! We had a wonder to where they had some pigs and piglets and were greeted by Lens family who were equally as welcoming!

I organised the break as a birthday surprise and Len and Sheila had kindly put up birthday balloons and banners that I sent! I also ordered a welcome back which consisted of milk, bread, tea, coffee, sugar eggs from their chicken and their own sausages and bacon! These are a real must! More can be purchased too!

The Pod's were very clean and supplied with a light and heater! The black out blind at the door and the location made for a very peaceful nights sleep!

The facilities were superb and gleamingly clean! Lovely hot running water in the showers! There is also a washing up area, washing machine and drier, also a freezer for the ice packs! They are keen for you to recycle and bins are clearly labelled to help!

Fantastic time and can't wait to go back! Thanks to Len and Sheila for all there help!

This was the first time that we had used a camping pod and it was fantastic!

The site was clean and well maintained and the owners were very friendly.

We were greeted each morning by the rooster and chickens who are able to wonder the site freely.

Pitches are separated by hedges, which provides some privacy for users.

I would certainly return to the site either in a pod or camping and definitely recommend it to other people.

Our only criticism would be that the toilet and shower block are small. There is one female and one male toilet and one shower. This was not a problem whilst we were there as the site was not full, however I could imagine that this would become a small problem when families camp there in the height of the season.

The site is a short drive away from Tavistock where there are plenty of shops and amenities. It is also in a good location for tourist attractions and the moors.

 The good bits.

Really clean, well maintained site. Level ground and well sheltered with beech hedges.

The downside

Trafic noise as the site is surrounded by roads, not constant noise but you do hear cars passing close by at speed.

The facilities are good there just aren't enough of them eg one unisex shower. Strange layout in the wash/wc cubicle, as the 2 handbasins (no large basin) and the single toilet for the gents are all behind the same locked dorr so if someone is having a wash you cant go to the toilet. Interesting that there are 12 pegs for a single user!

Hand dryer would be a nice touch if it was anything like effective.

Dishwashing water ran cold even though site was quiet

Nice to see the ponies and pigs in their paddocks and the free range hens would be fine except they come very close to the tents and cause dogs to want to join in the fun so they are straining on a lead!

This was my first stay in a pod. I usually take my tent, but didn't fancy the chilly evenings. Although there are other campsites in the area which have pods, this was the only one I came across which allows dogs in the pods - hence my reason for choosing it.

The owners were really friendly on the phone, on arrival and during my stay - couldn't ask for more.

The pod was great - no tent to put up, or dismantle in the rain on the morning that I left. There is an electric light, a heater and a black out blind inside, as well as a small window at the back that you can open for ventilation. Each pod has a decked area and it's own picnic bench - great for sitting at in the sunshine.

The rest of the site looked well laid out, with some of the pitches separated by hedges for a bit of extra privacy. There was also a more open camping area and a field at the top for groups and ideal for walking the dog.

There were the occasional inevitable queues for the toilets/shower, which is my only slight criticism about the site, but I never had to wait for long. There was a blockage while I was there, but it was promptly dealt with and the facilities were back in use by the evening.

The washing machine, dryer and freezer for ice blocks were a nice touch, although I didn't use them. The recycling/rubbish area was well labelled for ease of use and there was a dog poo bin on the site - not all small sites have one.

The site is well located for driving/cycling to Dartmoor and various attractions nearby, including the Tamar Trails.

If you are looking for a small, quiet, family run site, this one is ideal.

Lovely, clean and well laid out site with friendly owners.

Convenient location for Dartmoor and Tavistock where you will find several main chain grocery stores (spar/co-op) a couple of chip shops and a nice pizza/kebab shop for the nights you don't wish to cook nor eat out. All close enough to get back to site with hot food. Pub approx 10 minutes walk away although we didn't visit and would advise caution on the winding yet quick road with children (or tipsy partners).

We stayed in one of the 'pods', think timber tent and you've got it. Apparently very common on the continent but the first time we've seen them in the UK. We are hardened campers but opted for the convenience and dryness on this occasion, plus they looked too cute to not try out! Would suggest especially good for early/late season camping or for those that are yet to brave it under canvas. They have a mains power, a light and a oil radiator inside.

The owners have a small, small-holding on site where you can visit the pigs, chickens and couple of ponies, although (understandably) not feed them. The owners do welcome packs with their own (very much free range) eggs and bacon etc.

As the owners state, no play facilities on site for children, but plenty of safe space to move around with a large field adjacent (that can be booked for rallies). Small children will need to be kept a close eye on as quite possible for them to wander out onto the road if you turn your back for a few minutes, as the site is small.

Slabs provided for BBQ placement, clean water points, chem loo point and recycle bins. To the side of toilet block is washing up sink and washing machine/tumble dryer at £1 each per cycle. Small freezer here also for ice packs.

Several pitches have 'hedges' around for privacy as well as (8 I think) that have electric hook-ups. Gravel tracks on the main thoroughfares but no hard-standings for caravans or parking (how we prefer it but the ground can get chewed up in time)

Although a small site and many visitors are likely to be of the caravan persuasion so will have toilets of their own, only having 1 male/1 female toilet and 1 (free) shower is possibly going to be troublesome as the site gains popularity. Not a problem for us as quiet during our visit due to first year of opening and also the inclement weather we've had recently.

Certainly recommended and we intend to visit again which is always the best measure of a good site.

Stayed here in August 2010 with three other families. The site were able to accommodate us all next to each other in the same field which was great for the kids.

Nice tidy friendly camp site with a great layout of pitches that were of good size.

We were met by the owners on arrival and they were always nearby if we needed anything.

The toilets and shower were kept clean at all times and although there was just one toilet for men and one for women with one unisex shower I am aware there is plans to extend next year.

There was a large field for the kids or to walk the dog and the lots of animals to visit to keep the kids entertained.

I would recommend the welcome pack which is good value for money with a newspaper, bread, milk, sausages, tea coffee and butter and bacon.

We would like to go back again next year and would recommend a stay to anyone else thinking of going.
