It depends what you want for a site. There is plenty of space for everyone, a large number of EHU giving choice of pitch, a gently slopping field, dogs welcome and warm (£1) showers. A total of 5 fields were open to campers the weekend we were there which made for a busy one toilet.

It is a relaxed site but so much so that large groups are welcome, any noise is not prohibited. There were a number of different radios going all day and one - complete with disco lights went on beyond 1 am. Grey water disposal had very obviously been used for toilet waste disposal and not sure if the toilets had been cleaned over the weekend.

However the setting is nice and £15 a night with no extras for this that and the other was refreshing.

Great value down to earth little gem of a site.

The fields are spacious and plentiful. The site is part of a working farm which reflects in some of the surroundings but this having been said, they are developing it well and have sown the seeds of what will blossom into a stunning site in years to come. I would best describe it as a small band that you watch in your local pub who then become superstars and you can say 'I was there at the beginning'

Landscaping has been carried out and once the tree's are established the fields will be enclosed nicely.

Lots of wildlife around the fishing lakes and some good geocaching stashes too. I could hear but never actually found a woodpecker over the three days.

The hook ups are run on massive extension cables which allow flexibility when pitching which I liked a lot, and they even offered me an adaptor which would have been great if I didn't have my own.

A few nice little pubs within easy walking reach, unfortunately the one just outside the site was closed for refurb but is open again in the summer with some funky looking improvements.

Would I go back, heck yes, when I'm not going further afield this is the site for me for a weekend escape.

Note: satnav may take you into the site via the back entrance. Just keep driving past the caravans until you reach the cluster of buildings.

We have visited this site several times since buying our RV last summer.

It is a little 'wild' but we really like that element of it. The pitches we have had are secluded, separated by hedges and of a good size.

The facilities are basic and definitely a torch in the loo is a must!

My daughter loves the owners dogs and we have regularly taken them for walks around the fishing lakes.

We will definitely visit again.

I read the reviews and knew what to expect. I met a fellow caravanner who has a van here and loves it because he cant sleep at home when he is on nights with kids shouting and mowers going so he comes here as it is so peaceful. the toilet block is a portacabin that is falling down and take a torch its not the dark field but the light sensor in the toilet goes off after maybe 5 minutes so if your not done your in the semi darkness, I did hear that this toilet is going to be rebuilt soon its just a planning permission hiccup. with hindsight I wish I had set my sat nav for the tickling trout over the road and turn left when you are a few feet from it because coming in from the sheffield direction is a nightmare on the road in for instance you have to swing out more when pulling a caravan when the road is winding to the left then you meet a big 4x4 coming up the lane and there is a junction just outside the gate with a nasty blind spot, avoid this if your coming in. no frills site but its ok and its near Chesterfield, Sheffield, and expensive but worth it Chatsworth House

Visited this site a couple of times with friends, a great little getaway where you can just relax and enjoy yourself and not have to worry about anything, the owner is a lovely person and I will be back again very soon.

The only thing I would say is possibly to have more toilets as with only having 1 for ladies and 1 for the gents it sometimes can get rather busy when the site is full and it does get very full at times.

What a lovely site is all I can say, yes the facilities may be minimal with only 1 shower but didn't have to queue once. There are more toilets available to the centre of the site anyway all be it portacabins.

The site has numerous EHU around it and the water is situated very centrally. Their is no children's play area and in all honesty with the lakes and small river being in such close proximity you wouldn't want your kids wandering about, plus please remember it is a working farm. The lack of facilities is made up in a big way by the surrounding beaauty of the countryside. Take a short walk down past the shower block and you will come to a shallow ford or you can use the bridge and the scenery changes again, lakes full of fish which can be seen by the naked eye, frogs galore moving in the undergrowth, herons, a kingfisher, ducklings and geese.

Also Clive the owner is a decent chap calling to make sure all is ok everyday, stopping to chat to those that want to.

Chesterfield with its old crooked spire is only 5 miles away, with a Tesco express on the way in, where you can get most groceries for your stay. There are also numerous farm shops in the area for bbq packs. Not far are the towns of Bakewell and Buxton as well as Chatsworth House, then theirs always Sheffield.

All in all my type of site, quiet, peace and tranquillity.

Stayed on the last bank holiday in may and was very happy they would let us book for 2 nights only as most sites require 3 on a bank holiday.

No deposit was taken and was a little worried we wouldn't get our electric hook up as requested.

When we arrived, no one seemed to know where to put us, but we soon sorted a pitch on the first field.

It was a bit over run with kids, but hey it was school hols.

Shower blocks were decent, a £1 for about 10 min in shower wasn't bad, but didn't need that long, could cut cost and time down.

Was right next to the fishing lakes, which I loved and had a good day on the lakes.

2 good pubs near by, but no local shop.

Would defo stay again, we had a great wknd

Visited this site many times, and keep returning, so I guess I must like it.

Everyone working there are very helpful and reports of no one about well I guess there busy, I've had no problem. The fields are well kept, not worn, and I find this site relatively quite compared to some sites.

New shower blocks fine, but must admit would be better if 50p for 5 mins, rather than £1. 00 for ten mins. Village very quite no shop for supplies. Nearest shop for supplies is a tesco petrol station, but a good drive to get there, yes expensive, go further into chesterfield for full shopping facilities. Two pubs in village, one on main road which I found a waste of time, opens when they feel like it, and not children friendly. We visit at least twice a year, and will continue to return. Clive the owner is a great guy, and will always help you anyway he can.

This site is set in beautiful countryside and the camping area covers three fields each with electrical hook-up and fresh water.

It is advertised as a Camping and Caravan Club Certified site, which according to club rules can accommodate up to five caravans / motorhomes as well as a number of tents, however there were at least fifteen of the former pitched up and in use whilst we were there - so much for a small site.

Although there is a new toilet block they are still using the old portable cabin facilities as well and whilst these are kept relatively clean they are falling apart.

The showers cost £1 and the slot for the coin is outside the cubicle - the water then runs for ten minutes and there doesn't appear to be anyway that this can be altered - what a waste of water.

As previous reviews have stated this site does look like a builders yard and I agree - there were also a couple of lorry trailers parked adjacent to the camping area.

I made our original booking in February and I asked if they needed a deposit and/or written confirmation and was told neither was necessary. I rang again a few weeks before our arrival just to check that our booking was still ok and was told everything was fine. However, when we arrived the owner was on holiday and the lady left in charge was not expecting us. Again, like previous reviews, we had great difficulty in paying before we left.

One final comment, there is a sewerage works across from one of the camping fields and if the winds changes to the wrong direction - well you can guess the rest. Would I return to this site - no, not unless substantial improvements were made.

I arrived at the same time as a caravan and we wandered around looking for someone in charge. Eventually we spoke to a lady who was obviously a regular and she took us to see the owner, and then she sited us herself.

When you drive in the site looks a bit like a builders yard. The toilets are in a metal container with one sink in the Gents with no hot water. There are some showers( £1) but the only wash basins I found were for dish washing.

There's not a lot in Barlow. One pub serving food and the other promising to be serving food in the near future. The bus for Chesterfield stops just outside but only runs every hour.

On leaving I again had trouble finding someone to pay and I was going to have a last search after I'd packed up when the owner came round in his van.

I thought the fee of £15. 50 (inc hookup) was rather dear for the facilities.
