We stayed for two nights with our four children in a caravan with electric hookup. It was a really nice site and safe for children. Clive the owner was very helpful, friendly and couldn't help enough as well as having a laugh with you. This is a good traditional campsite with toilets and showers.

There are fishing ponds which you can walk round or of course fish on. Toilets and showers clean.

As for the rats-we didn't see any! We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.

We stayed for one night with some friends of ours. It was a nice site and safe for children showers and toilets very basic but clean.

The owner was very helpful and friendly set in the Derbyshire countryside a really lovely place to visit. The walk round the fishing pond is pleasant and the cafe served nice food at good prices.

There are no mod cons, a good traditional campsite for all the family. There are hook-ups but only two showers which could course problems at busy times.

Dogs are welcome although we are not dog owners. They were under control, all in all, a good time was had by all.

This is an amazing site and what I call a wild site. A real camp-site. So don't expect a club house or games/TV room or launderette type facilities here because they have none.

They do have fab new and always clean toilets and showers at the far end of the last field. Showers still cost £1, which is a bargain. They are lit by sensor's detecting movement as you approach. There are two sinks for dish washing and the water is always hot and it is free. If the gas runs out it gets changed straight away.

There is a lovely lady based on the site all Summer who looks after you and will advise on any local knowledge.

There are beautiful lakes full of fish, which are restocked, for fishing carp and trout. A walk around them from the site and back is an amble of 3/4 hour. A cafe by the far lake has a full breakfast/snack menu. Two drinks; a mug of T & coffee cost £1.30. Well behaved dogs with well behaved owners are allowed.

A walk through the housing estate end of the site and turn right will bring you to the local for a jar of real ale.

As for the comments about the rats, rats go wherever there are humans and human waste. Just tidy up after yourself.

This site is perfect for fishermen/women.

Stayed for 1 night with other half 3 kids (10,8 & 1yr) and also 1yr old bull dog, this was a canny little site, the shower block has just been up dated and is very clean with 2 showers (£1 for 10 mins)and a toilet in the ladies, there is also a washing up area although on the sat morning there was no hot water but I spoke to the owner and the gas bottle had ran out and he was very apologetic and changed it straight away.

The only thing I would say about this site is my other half was up at 6am to go for a shower and where you would get the free range eggs from there was about 20 rats all over the site, this site is right on a river so they had came from that.

Also the first tent field is on a slight slope but other than an alright little site.

We've just returned from a 2 night stay at this site and overall we had a nice relaxing break

It isn't easy to find though and there are no brown campsite signs on the main road, when we did finally arrive we were directed to the far west field which is overlooked by about 12 houses. However our pitch was very large and flat, perfect for a large tent to be honest, we couldn't actually fault the pitch and we positioned the tent so that it was facing out over the beautiful view with our backs to the not so beautiful houses.

We had to ask where to find the loos, showers and pot washing area but the woman was very helpful and got somebody to show us where everything was straight away.

There are some portacabin toilets by the caravan field and close by to the west field where we were situated and these had broken ceiling, rickety steps up to them and no toilet paper, not to mention dirty floor and sink area. However, there is another toilet block down the far end of the site near to the main tent field where there is 1 toilet and 2 showers in the ladies and the same in the mens, these were much cleaner but still not 100%. The showers cost £1 and the pot washing area was next to the shower block.

The fishing lakes and surrounding area were lovely to walk around and from the lakes you could walk up into the peaks and really explore if you wanted too.

We had a good weekend which was very relaxing and we met some nice, friendly people. We only paid £5 per person per night which was a good price but in all honesty the cleanliness and state of repair of the facilities really put me off

Just home from a visit to Barlow. We found the owners kind when speaking to them on the phone in booking and also whilst staying at their site. They were not in your face and just let you go about your day.

A couple of points to make. We had taken some young children with us and there is barbed wire on the fences.

The toilet/ shower block was adequate but only one toilet in the mens and one in the ladies. The only sink in the block was in with the toilet - which I have to question the logic and also hygiene!?

The washing up facilities were ok - but very very cramped! Again, a slight oversight in only having 2 sinks!

However, we had a nice stay and the weekend was fun! There is nothing in Barlow - other than a cafe (a drive away) and pubs. Try the Tickled Trout for dinner!

We were after a relaxing break and this was totally what we got. I would go back.

First visit to this site and its not to easy to find but once you do you soon get your bearings, a lovely site. All the pitches catch the sun all day and the fishing lakes. A lovely walk you can either go by road or over a little bridge however we choose to walk through the small stream full of fish which was great fun for our toddler.

Showers clean and nice lot of hot water it cost a £1 so very good the benefit is the site was only 12.50 a night for 2 adults and 1 child and the hard standing sites have a border of trees and plants so you feel very private they also have a table and bench on so its a great social site.

Would highly recommend but remember to take loads of stuff to feed the chickens as they are so friendly you can stroke them just watch out for the electric fence keeping them safe.

A great little gem of a site for a totally relaxing break,

We well be going back very soon and we also got some 'free' free range eggs and they were scrummy!

Four trout and four course fishing lakes to keep the fishing man/woman happy. With cafe alongside one of the lakes and toilet facilities

The camping side of the site is great 5 hardstanding pitches for caravans with a grass area including a picnic bench for each pitch. The shower block is very clean and well kept cost of £1.00 but you do get ages

One toilet and two showers in the men and womans block and a pot washing area next to this. There is a tent field and a rally field all very well maintained.

Local supermarket only about 3 miles away. Owners very nice gave us some free range eggs from the chickens that live on the farm. Will be using this site again enjoyed our stay

We camped here for the first time and are returning for the bank holiday weekend. There are 3 camping fields with the middle one used for caravans. The fields are level and the ground is soft and the grass left quite long.

There are new shower and toilet facilities, 1 toilet and 2 showers per block and a separate washing up room. The showers cost a £1 coin but are hot and last 10 minutes on a timer.

The site is next to the fishing lakes and is surrounded by fields on 3 sides, the main road through Barlow village runs along the top side of the camp site but is pretty quiet.

There is a pub across the road from the site serving meals (The Trout) and a village post office but nothing else. If you don't fancy driving the camp site is on the main Chesterfield bus route. A short drive away is another pub (The pump) which does food as well and a tesco superstore is a 10 minute drive away near Chesterfield town centre.

The site owners are very friendly and helpful and make you feel very welcome.

We paid £10 a night for 2 adults and 2 kids and this included electric
