We decided last minute to try this site which is only 30 minutes from home, having decided it was too far to go to Wales after work on a Friday in September.
We arrived at the site, to be greeted by the farmer, who looked surprised to see us. When we asked him if it was ok to camp, he said that it was fine, but made it obvious he thought we were mad!
His wife came and showed us where everything was. Both were very friendly. The farmer made sure we were ok after the first night, because the temperature had dropped to -2 degrees and there was a frost on the grass in the morning.
The site was well drained - despite the rain recently, and reasonably flat. The farmer had apologised that there was a fair amount of sheep droppings as he had allowed the sheep in recently to keep the grass down. I guess they don't get too many visitors at this time of year and were not expecting anybody. It did not cause us a problem though.
The shower and toilets were basic, but very usable.
The location was well known to us - we got married in the Calfs Head a few years ago. Very highly recommended as the food and service are amazing.
The walk from the site to the top of Pendle is a pleasant challenge, and the views from the top are well worth the climb.
Highly recommend this site if you want a get away from it all break. Don't go here if you like Glamping - more room for us!

This site is great! Nice location a pub almost a mile a way in a nice area. It does rain and the field is not flat but near enough with basic shower and toilets but ok.
Loved the site and owner friendly and can not say I have been to such a site for years will be back and recommend the calfs head worth the money!
No electric for tents but did not miss it and clitheroe good for shops about 3 miles away.

Stayed here for a 2 night weekend break, the approach road is single track but only lasts 1/2mile so you would be unlucky to meet someone. The site is a typical farm site and at £13/night is reasonable for one that includes showers and hook up. Its located right at the bottom of Pendle Hill so great views, the pub is only back down the single track road and serves great food.
The van pitches are not really hardstanding, lumpy sloping patches of gravelled tarmac is more like it! infact just don't expect hardstanding, also don't forget your levelling blocks.
To be picky the showers are in an old farm outbuilding, they have concrete floors, not much hot water and the cleanliness is questionable, however as said at this price I didn't expect showers at all.

A lovely little site in a beautiful location just at the foot of Pendle Hill. Perfect site for getting away from the hustle and bustle to switch off, yet close enough to local villages, towns and historical sites to pass your time.
There are plenty of walking routes including Pendle Hill. From the camp site there is a lovely 1 mile walk to the village of Downham, where you will find the Assheton Arms, in the other direction from the camp site about 1/2mile there is the Calf's Head, we ate there and the potions are amazingly large and the food is excellent.
The camp site itself is lovely, with beautiful views all around, the camping area is flat and soft ground for pitching your tent. There is everything you need, ladies and gents toilets (toilet paper provided), a washing-up room which doubles as the shower room and there are baby changing facilities. The only negative is that the shower room did not have a lock on the door, so be prepared to sing in a loud voice when showering!
Christine the owner was also very nice and helpful.
All in all, if you want to relax and unwind, go to Angram Green, you definitely will feel that you have recharged your batteries.
Oh! and at £9 per night for a 4 person tent and up to 4 people a bargain.

As others have stated, this site has basic facilities but the views are truly delightful.
The approach is about a mile of single-track road with passing places. I've only been out in the caravan four times so far and I found it no problem.
There is a total of three loos and one warm shower. These were clean and functional. The chemical disposal point is under a breeze block in a neighbouring field.
Our pitch, with electricity, was on loose stone (not quite the hardstanding which was suggested in the book) but this was not a problem when we visited in traditional Lancashire weather.
For walks up Pendle Hill or to the stunning nearby village of Downham, for trail running, quiet cycling or just relaxing this site is splendid. Arguably, it is a little expensive for what is on offer but, if only for the views, we firmly intend to return.
One thing which did surprise us: there is no FM or DAB radio reception on the site.

Absolutely faultless setting, the views are brilliant and being nestled at the bottom of Pendle Hill is lovely for walking etc. One of the local pubs (Calfs Head) had excellent food with some different choices on the menu & good beer.
The site itself is basic, we were told by friends it was but still thought it may be better than described, unfortunately it wasn't. We were lucky having on board facilities so we used them but I would of been a bit let down if I had to use the site shower etc. I wanted to be honest and not say anything negative because this is a gem of a sight for its setting but I wanted others to know what to expect.
The owners are lovely and helpful, it was lambing when we visited so they were busy but still found time to chat. It was a lovely experience for our 4 yr old to watch all of this.
Even though I think upgrading the shower & toilet is something that should be on the owners list of things to do I would still visit this site again, the site has been upgraded in various ways over the years so maybe when we visit again it will be different.
The charge for a caravan with hookup was £13 which is on par with other local sites but I've paid less with better facilities at some sites. We will visit again because the positives out way the negatives here. Hope this helps.

I wanted a local site to test out a new tent I purchased at the back end of last year, so selected this site just 15 minutes or so from home.
What a pleasant couple the owners were, they couldn't do enough to help. I never knew this charming little place existed till now so close to home.
Nestled under Pendle hill with great views and good walks at the door, and what with two pubs in either direction along the lane, within a gentle half hour stroll with good food and beer, I couldn't have asked for more.
Luckily the weather held and the tent was a success. I was the only pitch, but I wouldn't be surprised if this place is busy in the summer months.

We stopped here for a weekend and it is a really great find and an excellent site.
The facilities in terms of toilets and washroom/shower are basic (breeze block building with a tin roof, one ladies, one gents and one toilet in the shower room), but the water is hot in the shower and washing up area, the toilets are clean and everything works!
If you're expecting the Hilton this site will not be for you but if you want a site that has stunning views of Pendle Hill & the Ribble Valley, friendly and very helpful owners, real value for money, a level and well drained pitching area, a pub within 10-15 mins walk, easy to find (close to the A59) and yet still feels way off the beaten track and close to Clitheroe, the Forest of Bowland and the Dales then this is the site for you.
As it is only 30 minutes from Preston and central Lancashire it is a site we will be visting again for further weekend breaks to escape from the hustle and bustle of weekly working life.
A real camping gem in the heart of the glorious Lancashire countryside.

We have visited this site many times over the last couple of years and find it truly wonderful. Christine and John, the owners are very friendly and helpful and have really looked after me on the couple of occasions I have been on my own - as we live just 20minutes away it is the perfect site to come to when hubby is earning an honest crust!
The views of Pendle Hill and the surrounding landscape are breathtaking and if you can drag yourself away there is a pub in either direction a 15 minute stroll away. I prefer to stay at camp with the Pimms!
A special mention must be of the owners' adorable little girl whose company I have been grateful of many a time.
This is a great place for doing nothing but relaxing and recharging your batteries. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Excellent views of Pendle Hill and surrounding countryside. Easy to find (always a bargain) and quite flat. Seemed to be a very easy going owner. Basic separate toilets and one shower room (free hot water) for washing up with a brand new shower/toilet complex about 50% completed. Enough space for the kids to entertain themselves and walks to Downham (Born and Bred filmed there) and footpaths in various directions very near the site. Should visit Clitheroe, Whalley and Downham. Our new favourite campsite.
