Rang the owners the week before to be told no problem about getting on site the next weekend. She was very helpful. I was concerned about whether our large family tent would be OK. 'We don't worry about that', she said.
Turned up and was told that we could pitch anywhere. Explained that there was 3 families meeting up and she guided us to a good level spot to pitch.
Plenty of space in the field for people to pitch. As it wasn't too busy, part of the field became a play area for football and cricket. Physical evidence that EHU are being installed for the future.
Facilities basic. One toilet/sink for men and one for ladies. Shower (1) room with washing up sink.
The site is on a working farm. Chicken and sheep were wandering around. The kids were allowed to see a lamb that was being nursed in the nearby barn. The farm itself is in a beautiful area at the base of a hill (sorry don't know the name). One of the dads took his daughter and my son up for a hike on Sunday and said that he saw some great views. At dusk on both nights, an undentified bird of prey (Kestrel/Kite?) flew around the camp calling out.
Access is along a narrow winding road through the small village of Worston that is just off the A59. Apart from a very good pub, there is nothing much to speak of in Worston itself. Nearby Chatburn and Downham have a little more.
Clitheroe is only about 3 miles away and well worth a visit. Interesting little castle / keep overlooks this pleasant town. Interactive museum kept the kids quiet for a couple of hours but avoid the cafe. The market was a great source of locally produced food and provided us with one of the most tasty BBQ's any of us have ever tasted.
Don't expect a holiday camp, this is a CS that is off the beaten track. IMHO, that is it's appeal.
Would recommend this site if planning to explore the Forest of Bowland or for a weekend break.
£9 per unit per night.
