Child friendly site, great for adventures in the woods, very accommodating and helpful owner, peaceful setting with a choice of fields but best is near the woods in the hollow, local pubs nearby and Wells centre 10 mins away as well as being close to Cheddar and Wookey Hole. They occasionally have land rover club trials and Moto x trials so check with owner first if you want to avoid this busy noisy but exciting weekend for boys time, don't worry it's not run in the pitching fields so your safe.
Definitely gonna book again for a long weekend so relaxing highly recommended, only draw back is there is 1 shower, toilets there are 2 in the block with the addition of portaloo's being put at strategic points around the fields for parties of people or you depending on where you set up camp.
Firepits dotted around the pitch areas are handy as well as big bags of dry wood available from the owner chargeable obviously but very worthwhile, I'd give it 9 out of 10 if only had another shower or 2.

Have just returned from a week at this lovely site, if you want a friendly and clean site this is the one. The views are great and there is loads to do in the surrounding area. The owners are so helpful and friendly. Everywhere is so clean, I have my own facilities in the caravan, but have seen the showers and toilets, and they are very clean. I came away from there very relaxed. The access road is narrow but we didn't have any difficulty with it. We will definitely be going back there

Stayed here for 5 nights in a touring caravan. As other people have stated this is a lovely site with friendly owners. Facilities are basic but so is the price.
There were 2 toilets/washrooms & 1 shower in a converted stone farm building, there were also 2 portaloos on the main field when we arrived but they were removed midweek when the site went quiet.
We had our own facilities in the caravan but the site facilities were never busy. We pitched at the top of the big field which has loads of space for children to play, especially on the rope swings at the bottom of the field. The field does slope, so if you are in a caravan take some packing/levelling blocks.
Wookey Hole village is a 15 minute walk away, no shops, but a pub & a working mens type club which welcomes visitors. Wookey Hole caves & vistor centre are in the village.
Wells is a short drive away, a visit to the Cathedral is a must. Lots to see and do in the area.
The approach roads to the site are narrow but quiet, we had no trouble with the caravan in tow.

If you enjoy simple and beautiful, Lower Milton is about as good as it gets. About a mile from Wells, it lies in a depth of bucholic greenery that is genuinely breathtaking. There is nothing to be seen from any direction other than layers of beautiful countryside. It even has the storybook babbling stream and woods to explore. The fact that you are completely away from it all and yet so close to a lovely place like Wells is unbeatable for me.
Facilities were everything I needed; running water and electicity outlets right round the site, clean and decent loos, clean and decent shower and two country pubs within half a mile at Wookey Hole. Nick and his significant other run the place. They are affable, pleasant, helpful and understanding of inexperienced campers. Nick will help you with all site issues and local knowledge requirements and his dog will sniff out a cooked sausage from a country mile away.
I have left dreadful reviews for dreadful places I've visited in the past but there is nothing to complain about at Lower Milton. Far from it. At £12 a night for me, my girlie, the tent and the car, I couldn't have been happier. The minute the sun comes out again, I'm back down there. A truly beautiful place!

Just returned from a lovely long weekend stay here. We pitched at the top edge of the main field, lovely views across the levels. An ideal site for relaxing, we were the with friends, the kids had a great time on the rope swings, building bridges in the little stream etc.
With good sized bags of firewood available from the owner and no problems with fires it enhanced the relaxed atmosphere.
We enjoyed the quietness of the site, extra loos were in place for being busy so we didn't experience any problems.
Would certainly go again.

We chose the worst possible week for camping this June half term, the rain did not let up! We still managed to enjoy our stay however with trips to Wells and local attractions.
This site is basic but has working toilets and a hot shower. There was also a couple of portable loos in the further field. There is only one shower but I never found myself waiting. There is a little stream and a rope-swing for the children to play on and they got to help the farmer feeding the cows and admire his tractor. (Every 2 year olds dream!)
Campfires allowed and wood available from the farmer. Campsite priced very well at £12 a night. Very friendly and relaxed and we would stay there again and recommend. Only criticism I can think of. After the week we had, a shelter over the washing area would be great!
I doubt the site will ever be overcrowded and is a lovely little secret for basic camping

Just got back from 4 nights at this site and what a lovely little site. We stayed in the field next to the 10 pitches for caravans and had EHU.
The owner Nic was very friendly and welcoming and came to greet us not long after we arrived.
Loved the fact we could have a campfire and were able to purchase logs on site for £4 per bag.
My children enjoyed many hours playing on the tree swings and collecting sticks for the campfire.
Only down side of this site is there is no hot water at the washing up sink and even though it states there is a chemical disposible point, there is not so had to use the on site toilet to empty our porta potty.
However, would definitely go back as a bargin at £13 per night and such a lovely place to camp.

Fabulous little site (possibly a big site but we didn't move much). Really enjoyed our short stay. Quiet, not far from local Wokey Hole.
Very well priced, especially as all pitches appeared to be on level ground, and they allowed camp fires.
Relaxed atmosphere, where campers all got on, and the site owners always seemed to have plenty of time for a chat, offering advice and were friendly.
Bags of logs for sale stored nearby made things easy as well (£5 bag) - but it was all good dry wood, not that smoky sap wood some sites offer.
We went with tent, but got 'hook-up' in small field of caravans, only £1 extra for elec, which made the cold night so much easier to deal with. Not to mention having chilled beers throughout the warm day!
Will definitely come back here again.

We have just returned from a week long family holiday at lower milton. Three generations aged 73 to 20 months and we all had a fantastic time.
This is proper camping, plenty of space, room to play, campfires, perfectly acceptable toilets, shower electric and hot, the owner Nick so helpful and a really nice bloke.
Our children were never with us always at the rope swings where many friendships were made. The surrounding area is beautiful, a short walk across the fields takes you into the heart of wells, and a short drive to many attractions including Longleat only 25min drive.
I cannot recommend this site enough, we'll definitely be back. A lovely welcome, no list of rules, regulations and what you can't do on arrival as seems to be the norm these days. Mutual respect between true campers.

Just returned from a lovely week at lower Milton. Such a beautiful site and very quiet. Two big fields and a smaller area near the farmhouse with electric hook ups. Choose your own pitch, everyone camps round the edges so acres of space for the kids to play.
The owner is very friendly, coming to see us within 10 mins of our arrival and taking away our broken foot pump to fix it with gaffer tape for us!
There are 2 toilets, one with a plug socket, both well stocked with loo roll and hand soap. Only 1 shower which is large enough and handy to have plenty of hooks to keep clothes on. Water flow was good and nice and hot. Never had a problem queuing as the site never seemed too busy.
The site is surrounded by hills and woods and my kids had a wonderful time playing on the many rope swings and splashing around in the stream - much more entertaining than any play park!
We chose this site as it allows campfires which for us makes the holiday complete. We brought bags of logs and kindling from the Esso garage in Wells and found wood also from the surrounding area.
Nice and close to local town of Wells which is 10 mins in the car, all the usual amenities, tescos, pubs, shops and takeaways. Very pretty, cathedral is worth a visit.
Wookey Hole with its famous caves is 10 mins walk away and had 2 nice looking pubs though we never visited them.
Had lovely day trips to Cheddar Gorge which again is close by 20 mins by car and a great day out. Longleat 40 mins away and worth the drive! Glastonbury 30 mins great alternative shops and we also climbed the 'Tor' for some great views.
Only a few downsides, the main one being getting my car across the field when it had been raining, the grass is quite long and we slipped and slid all over the place! I'm sure if we had got stuck Nick would have towed us out with his tractor.
He did cut the grass while we were there, but the grass cuttings were left so it didn't seem to make much difference! But I wouldn't let that put you off, the peace and space more than make up for that.
The addition of a freezer for cool blocks would be great, if you don't have electric keeping milk etc cool is a problem. I brought a big bag of ice daily from tescos which did the trick.
All in all a lovely, peaceful week. And all for £12 a night for 1 adult and 2 kids!
