Just a short stay but very lucky with beautiful, sunny weather (always helps.)! Site was busy with families as it was half term week.
Most of the stream side pitches were taken, as kids love splashing and playing in the stream pools and on the rocks, but we (two adults, experienced campers) had a pitch on quieter hillside terrace, slight slope but not a problem. Also gets evening sun later than rest of site here!
This is a beautiful location, campsite squeezed into a narrow upland valley but with fantastic views and easy walks up towards Brendon Hills nearby, woods, moorland, plenty of public footpaths from the campsite, close to nature, etc. Agree with other comments, it's an easygoing, 'chilled' site, lovely ambience. Dogs, fires, BBQs allowed and kids will love it, just exploring. No specific play areas - you come here for the rural experience, the slightly ramshackle farmhouse, its wooded surroundings and freedom of hills and moorland at your back door.
I also agree with some other reviews - facilities seem inadequate when site is busy (main gents toilet has just one washbasin!), but not a big deal for some people.
If you want a fantastic location, plenty of space around the campsite itself and don't mind some basic facilities, this is a great place. Nearest pub about 2 or 3 miles away. Tea room/garden on site, and also at Malmsmead a mile away. No local food shops, but essentials available in the campsite shop. With a half decent shower block, it would be near perfect!

We have just returned from a week spent at Cloud Farm, and we all loved it and would definitely return again. This is a lovely rural site, in a gorgeous spot, ideally located for exploring North Devon.
The camping fields are stretched over quite a large area, mostly along the river but with some higher 'terraced' areas also, where we pitched.
Facilities are pretty good - couple of sets of toilets and there are 2 showers for men and women located in these and then an additional generator powered shower block open at peak times (when we were there between 8-10am and 6-9pm - although usually open for longer).
This shower block is unisex, so be aware of that if this is a real deal breaker for you - and take a couple of pegs to keep the shower curtains closed (this really wasn't a problem - it just made me feel a bit more secure).
Showers seemed fairly standard cubicle size to me, with some space for changing too. In addition, in the extra block, at each end was extra space which was great if you have kids or just want a bit of extra space. Showers were hot and I never had to queue despite it being bank hol weekend. In addition, the wash up area has a chest freezer and a double fridge, along with 4 wash up sinks and a coin operated washing machine and tumble dryer.
Great little tea rooms on site - does a full english, which went down well - ice creams and lunches and the cakes looked fab. They also do food into the evening, but we didn't have that so can't comment. You can also walk along the River to the next campiste along (Doone Valley) where there is another Tea Rooms to add a bit of variety.
The site if off the beaten track, so no traffic and no noise apart from the birds! The kids (8 and 5 yrs) had an absolute blast - they could explore all over the place, paddling (or swimming) in the river and finding dens, climbing trees, exploring etc - Great! However, there is a river so if your children are small you will probably need to keep an eye on them
They let you have campfires and yes they do charge for the wood (£10 for 2 smallish bags and kindling or £5 for 1 bag), but that is only to be expected. You can buy bigger bags at the hardware shop in Porlock.
John and everyone else at the site couldn't have been friendlier - he always checked how we were doing everytime we saw him.
Things to do - Porlock is lovely and has lots of places to eat. Cliff Railway between Lynton and Lynmouth is worth a visit and the walk up the river from Lynmouth to Watersmeat is definitely worth doing (Watersmeat is a fab NT Tea rooms and Gardens). And there are walks and cycle rides directly from the campsite. The Blue Ball pub on the way to Lynmouth did good food, was friendly and was a nice old style pub.

My partner and I have just returned from a few days at Cloud Farm.
It is most truely a very beautiful setting for a peaceful holiday (although have been told they can be very busy during peak times)
We arrived early evening and on arrival we were told just to find a nice spot he would see us in the morning. So that is what we did. Very pretty drive pass the many fields of bouncing little lambs and chose a spot in one of the many sectioned areas (majority right beside the river!).
It should be noted that ground was extremely firm and rocky. So didn't help that we forgot our mallet! There is lots of flat ground and some fairly new landscaped area (slight slope).
The toilet & Shower facilities are fairly basic but very adequate for your needs. I was most surprised about the utility area. Washing machine & Tumble dryer (coin operated) and Fridge/Freezer and additional chest freezer on a campsite (They even had a few spare freezer packs)!
The is tea room on site (where you also pay for camping) which provided lovely meals Breakfast - Supper (8pm). I can most definitely vouch for the Homemade Plum & Apple pie with local clotted cream Icecream.
The campsite is situated along side a lovely walk through valley along the river. I gather this walk is very popular with local folk as there were many ramblers passing through and stopping at tea rooms)We decided to take our bikes along there. Very exciting for the experienced mountain biker. Bit scary for novice (like me) but I can say now all good fun. Otherwise a lovely walk for about 7miles I think. I think if you had a horse you could bring them along as there was a lovely bridle path along the other side.
Fires were great every night. My only regret was I didn't bring my dog. If you take yours make sure its been treated for Ticks.
We didn't make it off site to any other venues didn't really fancy the drive so I couldn't possibly comment.
So Cloud Farm is definitely recommended in the picturesque area of Doone Valley and cant wait to escape back there.
Only marked down on Child Friendliness because of the closeness and easy access to water. So stating the obvious 'Young children shouldn't be left unattended'.

This site is in a fantastic location, nestled between hills in a picturesque valley. The staff are friendly and laidback and the shop sells great cake. However this site gets really crowded over peak times. After successive bank holidays here with noise through the night, very cramped tent pitches and dirty facilities we have not rushed to return. If you like a festival feel then this site would suit you fine; if you like peace and quiet then come out of season.

I can't understand the last review because we recently visited Cloud Farm on the advice of a friend and had a wonderful stay.
Some of the ground is sloped but there is plenty of flat ground. I'm not sure but it looks like they've done a bit a remodelling recently to include several terraced fields.
We had plenty of space and the staff were very friendly and relaxed. It was lovely to have an open fire each night by the river.
We would definitely recommend this site to anyone considering camping on Exmoor it is in a truly beautiful location. One things for sure we'll definitely be going back.

I should start by saying that, although this write-up is largely negative, we enjoyed our visit and would probably use the site again.
At £29 per night for 2 adults and two children it was the most expensive campsite we’ve stayed at this year. We also gave them another £13 per night for logs and marshmallows. It felt like they were taking advantage of their position and reputation
Very little of the site was on level ground, resulting in the kids sliding off their beds in the middle of the night, but considering it‘s position, it was not as muddy as we expected. The showers and toilets are old and a bit grotty, although they have added new showers, it has been done ‘on the cheap’. The new showers looked like an old transport container with 6 of the smallest shower cubicles I’ve ever seen, I don’t know if it was possible to have a decent shower in the tiny cubicles as when I tried to use them [on a cold afternoon after walking in the mud and rain and again after a sweaty morning packing our tent] the power was turned off? - so I was back queuing for the old showers. Some of our party just gave up & didn‘t have a shower while they were there - not very fair considering the cost of the site. There were only two sinks for washing dishes which was totally in-adequate for the size of the site and more time wasted queuing.
It was nice to have a campfire and it is good to see that more sites are allowing this. Cloud Farm is a beautiful riverside site on Exmoor and the walk along the Doone Valley was wonderful. When the sun came out the children, and adults, had fun playing in the river and there was a nice little garden serving breakfast and afternoon teas, which looked nice, although we didn‘t try them ourselves. The reception also sold a few basic supplies such as bread, milk & bacon.
The staff were easy going, almost to the point of being uninterested, and the toilets were often out of soap & toilet paper, however, they were helping tow people off the muddy parts of the site.
In summary, a ‘chilled’ site in a beautiful position but NOT very good value for money. We often go camping at the weekend, arriving on the Friday evening but if we use this site again we would just stay for the Saturday night.

Lovely Campsite in a great valley.
We will visit here again.
Excellent location, campfires welcomed, nice river, no booking required.
Not all the pitches are level, but you chose exactly where you want to be so you can suit yourself. Plenty of space though.
Facilities were reasonable and clean.
Only fault that we can pick is that the weather printouts were not updated daily. A 5 day print out is only accurate for the first day or 2. Having no mobile signal at all here means you can't check this yourself.

The site is in a stunning location and the owners are very relaxed and happy for you to pick your own pitch. We chose a stream-side pitch in one of the fields further from the loos (though still not too far).
The ground was nice and flat and, although we felt slightly sheepish in our enormous 6-man tent for the two of us when most people around us were in 2-man, we had plenty of space to pitch it. It was great that we could have a camp fire - the site provide 'bins' of stones for you to use to contain your fire and sell logs for you to burn.
The stream was safely fenced-off to stop small children wandering in, though there were plenty of stiles to climb over to get to the stream for playing/paddling.
There was a handy shop/cafe on site. The shop sold small bits of camping kit and food basics and the cafe did lovely teas, cakes and sandwiches as well as slightly more substantial meals too.
At the time we went, there were just 2 showers (with 2 loos) and then a separate block with another couple of loos though I understand there are more showers now. We found the showers & loos to be clean enough though I did have to queue for a shower a couple of times.
The whole area is incredibly beautiful - fantastic walking on Exmoor and an easy hop from the stunning coast (15-20mins or so from the Victorian seaside town of Lynmouth, another couple further to the valley of the rocks and another 5-10 further to Woody Bay)
We had a wonderful few days at this beautiful, friendly & relaxed site and will definitely be back.
