We have just returned from a two night stay at Bowfield farm. Although we pitched our tent in the rain we thought the ground would soon dry out the next day as the forecast was for warm sunshine. However after a full day of sun and a dry night we found the ground was still pretty soggy, the fact that the grass was quite long probably didn't help.
The toilets, shower and washing up area were clean and modern although there was no handwash in one of the toilets. And as the lights were motion sensor operated they kept going out whilst I was in the shower leaving me in darkness.
On a brighter note it was good value for money at only £15 per night with ehu. And although the owner was away their relatives looking after the place were really helpful and friendly even making us a cup of tea while we were pitching in the rain.
It is a small site on a working farm and our son enjoyed visiting the sheep. There is also a little football pitch where he played with his little friend.
Not far from Barnard Castle but as only there for two nights didn't really explore much further than that.
Would we go back? Yes but only if we knew it was going to be dry as the field drainage did let it down a bit.

One of the best little sites we have stopped on in 30 years of caravanning. The site is set among a working farm and was great.
The toilets / showers would not be out of place in a 4 star hotel. A review left previous said the field is small! I don't know which field they were in but the one we had was extra large, stacks of room for the 5 units and still room for the kids football pitch, which was a good distance from the units.
Mark and his wife were there if needed and always happy to stop and chat. As we live close by we will be back.

Brilliant Campsite!
We are a young couple with one child, we only stopped on the campsite for 3 nights but were very impressed with it. The owner is very friendly and welcoming.
Although there are only two bathrooms, they are very clean and modern. The only critisism is that there is only a towel to dry your hands no hand dryer etc. Apart from that it is like being at home.
The campsite is in a idyllic area, very quiet and ideal for a quiet get away.
The campsite is on a small field with no play area, however, the farm is active and our child enjoyed watching the tractors, cows, sheep etc.
Overall very enjoyable stay!

A lovely site for us as first-timers, a family of four, with two young boys. We had a great weekend despite the torrential rain! Bowfield is a working farm and it was lovely to be amongst it all.
The camping field, which has electric hook-ups, is fairly small (which we really liked) with beautiful views across the valley. There was plenty of room for our large 6 person family tent.
It is a little bit exposed but I think hedging/trees would spoil the views. Toilet and showers were through the farm yard, they were very clean with plenty of hot water.
No other facilities as such but none needed in my opinion. The farmer was very welcoming and friendly, always around if we needed him.
Nearest shops/pubs are in Barnard Castle town which is a short drive from the Farm. Had a day at the lovely Bowes Museum and another at the amazing High Force.
I would recommend Bowfield Farm to anyone who is looking for a peaceful stay in the countryside and would return definitely again.
