The site is not what we expected from looking on the website and at the map. The site is quite hilly with rough ground to cross/pitch on. We were advised not to drive onto the grass (shrub) in case we got stuck. This was a bit of a pain because it meant carrying all of our equipment quite far over uneven ground. We managed to find a relatively flat spot and had great views. The following day we drove up to the tent to reload our vehicle with no problems (we have a 4x4). Each pitch has its own water tap which was a life saver as the walk to the facilities was a decent distance. The reception for the site is in the café which threw us initially. This was a nice site and the facilities were lovely, although we couldn’t find any bins (seriously neither of us could find any outdoor bins). We didn’t use the café, but it looked really nice with some interesting gifts. Sounds on the site travel quite far, including the traffic passing on the road. Though there wasn’t much, it still sounded very loud in our tent overnight. Our tent was ‘inspected’ by the two large site dogs (who were being walked off lead). One of them jumped up the back of our tent, luckily causing no damage. Thankfully our own two dogs were inside with us at the time. The man walking the dogs did not approach us or apologise which seemed a bit off putting. Overall we liked this site, but it was a little too far from our expectations. We would recommend it, however I don’t think we’d be quick to return as it was only a stop off for us on our way up to Scotland.

Arrived at 5pm on the Friday night. Booked in and girl told us where our pitch was on the top of the banking. We didn't see it so ended up in wild camping area. WOW so much better. Very cosy, had bbq n campfire, made the weekend so so much better. Slight downside was quite a walk over the water bogged banking ( where our proper pitch should been) down to the amenities. Very clean and tidy. Didn't use showers but looked nice. Owners took regular walks round to see if we were ok. Which is good.
Bellingham village is 10 min walk away very handy and good stock of shops. Lovely walking area close by and very pretty area
Will recommend this site to others if you like peaceful basic site.

Just returned from Boe Rigg after a 5 night stay with my girlfriend and I have to say we could not fault it at all, from the moment we arrived till we left all of the staff were friendly and helpful! we couldn't of asked for a better pitch and the facilities were modern, spotless and had constant hot water. We hired a fire pit for the length of our stay for £5 and a large bag of good quality dry wood was £3. 75!
A 5 minute drive away there is a beautiful small town (Bellingham) with some nice pubs/shops to visit. We will definitely be staying at Boe Rigg again and taking friends with us.

We spent 4 nights at this lovely rustic site in April this year. We were in a family group which was nice as we hired a brazier / barbeque for £5. 00 for the duration of our stay, we sat around the fire on an evening and enjoyed the sunsets and the amazing display of stars on our last night there. The coffee shed serves great food and drinks at very reasonable prices with much attention to detail in the presentation of the meals and drinks, the staff were all really friendly and Andrew the owner works tirelessly to ensure everything is running smoothly, when we were there he was building a new cabin that will be the new reception and shop area. The toilet and shower block is modern and very clean. If you require a caravan site that has manicured bowling green type pitches Boe Rigg is not for you but if like us you enjoy the wide open spaces and beauty of the Northumberland moorland and countryside I'm sure you would enjoy your stay at Boe Rigg.

Just spent 2 nights at this campsite. Came to join friends who were staying for 4 nights.
On arrival it wasn't very clear where we should go and ended up wandering into bunk house because we were following a sign for reception. We were greeted by a guy I assume was the owner? Told us number of the plot and pointed us in right direction. Now don't be fooled by the map on their website as the campsite isn't anything like this and was completely different to what I expected. It looks like plots and possible a track around for cars. Its not its pretty much a field! Beware too if you've booked wild camping that you cant get your car over to your plot and you need to carry everything across a stream! I have had both my hips replaced and this was an impossible task that I just had a melt down. I so wished I had known this on booking!
We decided it was impossible and my husband went to cancel our stay. The guy this time was very helpful (even though on checking in he had told us there were no other plots) he found us a plot to stay in.
I will say the electric hook up plots are good in that you share a water tap with another plot so don't have to venture far for water. Space was good. Can also hire a fire pit for £25 (£20 is returned on return of fire pit) and the coffee shed has logs and kindling for sale.
One downside is its down a big hill from campsite to facilities.
The facilities are clean, toilet and showers were fine. Washing facility room only has 1 sink so spend lot time waiting.
Biggest negative was noisy people in tent near us. It was a large group of 2 tents together and they were noisy saturday and sunday night till past 1am in the morning, so although the site advertises its quiet after 10pm no one actually polices this. They just shouted and talked and screamed at each other for hours. Even walking to toilet a bunch of women stopped outside our tent around 130am and proceeded to shout and laugh. No respect at all for others! I did attempt to complain to someone this morning in the coffee shed but the girl just looked at me blankly. I must say I didn't find the staff at all helpful in the coffee shed. I also thought there might have been more information on local walks etc but there wasn't.
All in all it was an ok campsite but could be improved by better customer service.

Just got back from a w/end in September 2013 at boe rigg. We picked this site after reading all the positive feed backs and have to say it was spot on. We were put on the camper van pitch 1. There was plenty space and you have your own water tap & waste drain. The licensed cafe is very clean & modern & reasonably priced, you can have a nice meal & drink at a fair price & choice of food & bottled beers & spirits. The toilets & showers were modern & very clean & warm. Staff were very helpful & smiling. The only negatives I would give is that they could keep the grass cut shorter as its a bit clumpy & spend a bit on landscaping the area. If they had an area of hard stands for caravans I'm sure they would get a lot more custom. We had a nice relaxing w/end & we will be back next year for a w/end that is a defo

Well done Maddy and Andrew for creating a fantastic site in such a short space of time. This was my first visit and I will be returning and recommending it to others.
It's a well laid out site with lots of room between the electric hook up pitches and plenty of water taps at hand. The showers and toilets are immaculate. The bistro cafe has a good selection of meals at good value prices and open from 8am - 8pm. When I stayed I didn't want to eat in as I didn't want to leave my two dogs in the tent for any length of time, so I was told I could order anything on the menu as a take out.
There seemed to be a lot of families on the site and the children were having loads of fun in the small play area. Much to the kids delight, you can have a camp fire, lots of marshmallows were been toasted. If you want to visit Northumberland I'd recommend using this site.

I have just returned from a BH weekend with my family and friends. Upon arrival it was a little unclear as to the whereabouts of the reception area. Clearer signage that reception is actually in the coffee shop would be helpful. Having found our pitch, we were somewhat disappointed at the unkempt, uneven pitch itself. Whilst we appreciate this is a relatively new site, and in keeping with true rural camping, a mow of the grass wouldn't go amiss.
We were in a party of three families on the first night, with two other families arriving the next day, and although there was ample spaces between the three pitches, the two we had booked opposite were so uneven and on a slant that to pitch two tents and expect a reasonable level of comfort was ridiculous. We ended up squeezing 5 tents onto 3 pitches. So much for our spacious area!
Each electric hook up pitch also has their own water tap and drain which was very convenient, however the area for rubbish disposal was so far away we ended up driving on occasion to dispose of it (we are not lazy but it does get annoying having to walk over very uneven terrain for ages to throw rubbish away AND use the facilities - more on that later).
We consider ourselves to be seasoned campers and have stayed in several areas of the UK, however not once has my wife ever stated that she 'felt unsure' about a place. She couldn't for several hours put her finger on why she felt uncomfortable, until she explained that the site has a confused identity and seems to cater for the bunkhouse clientèle as opposed to the tenters. For example, the washroom, showers and toilet facilities are all based in the bunkhouse building, which felt like miles away, especially if one needed to pay a visit in the small hours!
As I have already mentioned we were a large party during a BH weekend, and regrettably e did possibly end up enjoying ourselves a little late into the night, however we were by no means noisy, unfortunately my wife and her friend got the fright of their lives when they were chastised in the pitch black by the site owner and warned not to make any noise during their loo visit in case they disturb the people staying in the bunkhouse. They didn't even use the hand dryers for fear of facing his wrath! Incidentally they also apologised on behalf of the whole party for still being out of their beds at 1am.
As an aside, the following day, another member of our party overheard 2 men chatting in the gents, one saying to the other 'this is what happens when Go Outdoors have a sale, all the riff raff turn up together'. And that's when we realised what was wrong with this site, aside from the obvious cosmetic flaws and lack of facilities dedicated to the tenters, this site needs to focus a little more on their bread-and-butter ie the tenters, and less on those who clearly think they are elitist. Sorry but we won't be back.

I had a lovely relaxing & enjoyable Sunday night at Boe Rigg and I plan to visit again soon to introduce my husband to the venue.
It is a well-laid out site with v good toilets, showers & facilities. I had one of the motorhome pitches so I could park my microcamper car with a shelter next to it and access the electric hookup.
My only complaint is that the Coffee Shed cafe/bistro is too tempting. So having treated myself to a scrumptious Fish & Chips evening meal there, and waking up to a steady downpour of rain, I gave into temptation again and went had breakfast in the cafe as I wanted good food, good coffee & access to free wifi. I like the design & style of the cafe, light, airy & very modern, which contrasts to the delights of the landscape & wild camping outside.
I had tried to book in for Saturday night but when I called that morning from home there was no answer. I called into the cafe later in the day and they said they were full. So we discussed the idea that it might be good to add to their answaphone message on days when they were full & very busy as last-minuters like me would then know the situation.
The staff were all very helpful & friendly and I was impressed by their positive approach to their work.
I look forward to future days spent there, with trips to Kielder and all the other Northumbrian attractions planned.

Really enjoyed visiting this site for a brief, one-night stay and will definitely return.
Although the managers informed us that the site was fully booked, the site never seemed busy. Toilet and shower facilities were spotless and plentiful meaning no queue!
Each electric hook-up had its own tap, with drainage! There was plenty of space between ourselves and the nearest neighbour.
Good doggie walks across the landowners fields with no livestock present at the time so the dogs had their freedom!
There is also a small playpark which is always a bonus for the kids, however, I did feel it was slightly unfinished as there was no safe base (bark) and the ground was quite rocky underneath the swings.
The is also an on site cafe/bistro open from 8am-8pm. We had coffee and cake there which was lovely and were able to purchase ice-cream, a lovely treat on a hot day!
