It's been a while since we've been to Dale Farm and since our last visit the site has been expanded. The pitches are big and have EHU. There are 3 toilets and a shower as well as a sink for pot washing. Fires are also allowed.
The location is fantastic for walking straight from the site. In the village there are 2 pubs. We ate in The Crispinn which is dog friendly, food excellent and staff friendly and accommodating.
A great rural site very peaceful.

We stayed for our 2nd visit to Dale Farm for 2 days over the Easter period - we had previously had an overnight stay just to see what the site was like.
We loved it! As it was the Easter weekend, we booked in on the Thursday for 2 nights - and could chose our spot on the tent field as no one else was there. The hill up to the camping field is steep ish but worth it. We had a fire pit burner, but other people have had camp fires.
We have met such lovely and warm people there during our stays. Firstly, as we had brought everything except the kitchen sink and more importantly our fold up chairs, I asked a chap who was on site doing some work on the electric hook ups if there were any left over chairs knocking about. He kindly said he had 2 at home, and we followed him to his house to pick up the 2 chairs - saved us going into Bakewell and paying high prices.
The following day, we were asking the farmer about local walks and this lovely lady who has horses there, kindly offered to drop us at the Hassop station, and then told us the best walks bearing in mind our footwear etc. Following her directions, we had a great walk there and back, getting off the Monsal trail at the right place to save us having to walk on the roadway.
We have also chatted to a couple of the people who have caravans here - they were nice too.
The site is basic - it is a working farm - but there are toilets, taps, a pot washing sink and a toilet emptying place, a little shop with an honesty box, and everyone we have met so far is nice bearing in mind we are out of town people, and we can't fault the site itself. I think you can order breakfasts, but as veggies, we didn't bother.
In the village, we have been to both the Crispin which has really nice cider, and a very pleasant landlord, and also the White Lion is nice too. We didn't order any meals, but locals have told us that the food in both is good.
We have previously encountered unfriendly and unpleasant locals before whilst camping in other Derbyshire villages, but have fallen in love with Dale Farm and Great Longstone village in general, and can't wait to go back.
We have now bought a caravan, so hope to go and try the bottom field with the hook ups soon - save walking up the hill lol!

Fantastic site for its locality to the Monsal Trail and decent pubs. Our favourite was the Pack Horse Inn, Little Longstone. Fantastic Thornbridge beers and great food. Ask about the shortcut across the field but you will need a torch if returning after dark.
As mentioned by previous reviews the facilities are very limited, with just 2 toilets, no showers or washing up facilities. We didn't find any hot water, the hot water taps in the toilets didn't work but with only staying a couple of nights it didn't spoil our time here but we wouldn't be able to stay for any longer without it which is a bit of a shame.
The hooks ups were being installed whist we were there which is a great addition for those that need electric but we managed in our campervan and would much prefer hot water and showers to electric but please don't let this put you off visiting especially if you are looking for a weekend away and can manage without showers as we did.
The lower 6 pitches were fine for being pretty level and were well positioned especially if there was a group of you but spaced well enough if you were on your own.
The price has gone up to £15 a night and would have been £17. 50 with electric hook up if they had been up and working. Personally we felt that the site doesn't warrant £15 a night but when you add what you have on your doorstep, it's worthy and we will be coming back :)
The owners were really friendly and the farm shop was self service and we had 6 eggs for £1. 50 which were great for our Sunday brunch.
Looking forward to visiting again.

Lovely little site once you find it. Don't rely on sat nav as ours didn't recognize the post code!
The track to the farm is quite rough and narrow but I managed in our large 6 berth van and turning is not a problem as you enter by the farm house and leave by the field gate in a circuit.
We were shown to our pitch at the top of a small sloping field. Each pitch has been dug out at some time in the past but try I as might I could not get the van level and we spent a night sliding down the beds. The second night we moved to pitch number 2 nearer the bottom of the field and had a much better level night. Levelling blocks are a good idea for this site.
The site has one spacious Toilet with mirrors and work top space handy for washing kids and washing dishes. Plenty of hot water from the tap just outside the toilet and cold water inside and out.
The farm is home to some lovely horses but the horses owner was quite unkind and unfriendly towards my daughters. However The site owner and his daughter are lovely and introduced my daughters to Jess the cat and their own horses and cows. This is a working farm and in the interest of safety children must not wander around away from the camping field unattended.
The site is a perfect base for exploring Matlock, Bakewell, Buxton etc for a weekend.
At £10 a night we were very happy campers.

A really nice small site in the village of Great Longstone. The village has 2 pubs and a deli. A short walk away is Monsal Head. The owner was very friendly and left us to our own devices. The weather was wet and windy but it didn't spoil our weekend.
We paid £10 a night. The site does not have hook up and only has a toilet and washbasin, no showers but for a weekend this was fine.
A great location and we would definitely visit again.

Great small site, nice owners, the twin cats are friendly too, they end up in your tent on your quilt if your not careful!
Facilities limited but good, toilet warm and clean, hot water plentiful, lots of toilet paper, free range eggs 6 for a £1.
Pack Inn third of a mile away in Little longstone, gorgeous food and superb thornbridge beers, watch the Jaipur!
Ashford in the Water has great pubs too, and you can watch the trout compete with the ducks for your bread off the walkers bridge.
