I booked in for 3 nights for the May bank holiday weekend. The weather was great, windy but sunny. Plenty of shelter on the site the. The owners are very helpful and helps make it a lovely stay. Facilities amount to a nice little toilet and shower block - great shower - I always appreciate that! You are never far away from gorgeous scenery and good coastal walks here. Would visit again, and do recommend. Oh, and it's probably suitable for anyone really, I was there on my own in a campervan and happily spent the weekend in the sun with my nose in a book. Campfires also allowed and catered for :) Can't fault it, small, simple, no fuss, friendly and well thought out.

We stayed at North Rhinns Campsite over Easter for seven wonderful nights and we will definitely go again. The campsite is beautifully quiet with new and very clean facilities and we parked our camper and set up a tent within well maintained trees which provided shelter from the wind. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners who generously offered their help (as we were somewhat under prepared for the Easter cold snap) by lending us blankets, a heater, logs and kindling, and even a jacket for our dog, as well as chocolate treats for us and numerous doggie biscuits.

The campsite is a great base to explore the coastline and there are breathtaking walks and views to be enjoyed. We can thoroughly recommend North Rhinns Camping and want to say a big 'thank you' for the hospitality we received!

Fantastic site in great location, with beautiful views and a remote feeling, but a great stopover point for Cairnryan and Stranraer ferries. The owners couldn't have been more helpful or friendly and made me feel very welcome. Small, but well maintained amenities block with nice little touches such as a book swap shelf. Electric hook up via a pre-paid meter so you only pay for what you use. I only spent one night here before the ferry so I didn't explore the local area, but I would imagine there are lots of lovely walks.

My friends and I had a really good time at the North Rhinns Camping site, upon arrival the owners were very accommodating giving us a quick tour of the site as well as the facilities available.

The facilities themselves are excellent, plenty of room to park cars (we had two), two toilets with disabled access as well as hot water and a hot shower. Not to mention the fact that the owners do their best to help with anything else we may have needed such as a great supply of firewood.

The site is situated in a great location, far enough away from any major towns that you get the full camping experience but not too far that you couldn't visit a shop for supplies if need be. Also Port Patrick is a very nice seaside town and is only a 15 minute drive away.

All in all, a very good site, we had a comfortable and fun stay and we plan to be coming back in the summer!

Excellent small site on Rhinns of Galloway, 5 miles approx from Stranraer. Decent small shop located at Leswalt village 2 miles away.

Quiet, rural location in forested grounds surrounding owners cottage, so sheltered location.

Lots of cut grass paths through small stands pines.

Superb star spotting on clear nights, and small fire pit to have an open fire. 4yr old and I collected pine cones and bramble die back from woods.

Only takes tents / small campervans with couple of electric hookups and hardstanding. Only cost us £1 a night and that was running our heater throughout the night - wintry winds, snow flurries and clear skies whilst rest of country under blanket of snow

Superb small modern toilet(2) / shower / kitchen (2 sinks) block - one of best showers we've had on a campsite, loads of room and proper electric controllable power shower in modern wet room style - no cold tiles here. Combi boiler to ensure instant hot water on demand.

Books/magazines supplied for campers. Owners even loaned us an explore OS map (1/25000) of the area and offered us some suggestions.

A well put together small site by owners who are obviously campers themselves. Felt like wild camping as we had the site to ourselves, but the benefit of quality toilet / shower block.

Only omission is currently no heating if facility block but this is something owners are exploring whilst adding further insulation to the block. Just need to find the correct type for the shower room. Only an issue in the off season really, it was -5 at night when we were there for 2 nights in March.

Great day down at Portpatrick climbing on rocks and nearby lighthouse/beach to fly our kite.

Stranraer has great park by loch side - pirate ship / archimedes screw / desert island / separate playpark with zip slide etc (miniature railway and boats closed in march)

Highly recommended

We spent 3 days on this site and visiting the surrounding area as part of a 2 week roaming break in the Dumfries and Galloway area. The owners provided a warm welcome on our arrival help in initial siting and parking up and general information about the surrounding area.

The site and surrounding area is idyllic for those wanting a quite away from it all break and whilst orientated towards campers there are a couple of hard standing areas with EHU which are suitable for smaller motor homes and campervans.

The new purpose built toilets, dish wash area and the shower/wet room are excellent and are kept spotless by the site owners. These facilities combined with little touches such as picnic tables dotted around the site, facilities on each pitch for open fires and seating at various points along mown grassed walkways that wind through the wooded areas helps set this site apart.

For nature lovers the belts of trees not only provide shelter from the wind but host an abundance of birdlife which we soon had queuing up at the birdfeeder we had put out.

The only slight drawback is that there is no on site chemical disposal point, this however was not a problem as the on site facilities are more than adequate during the day and having been advised at time of booking we ensured that we had emptied our tank prior to arrival to cope with the odd nocturnal need.

If you want a site to just pull into and have some downtime this is certainly one to consider. It is definitely a site we would revisit if we are in this area again.

Stayed here for two nights in a campervan with an awning. The owners were really friendly and helpful even lending us an extra blanket for our dog because it had been so wet. The site was beautifully looked after and the facilities were very clean and well equipped. A lovely couple of days was had, the children loved venturing round the trees and paths and we all enjoyed exploring the local areas recommended by the owners. Highly recommended.

Just back from a wonderful 2 day stay at this site. There was a party of 4 adults and 5 kids in 2 tents the kids aged between 6 and 12.

The visit was primarily to see if my wife and kids would enjoy camping or not, and to try out a new tent, and am I glad we picked this site to do so, because it worked.

We were blessed by great weather throughout our trip but I can see how this site would great even in not so perfect conditions, the pitches have been well thought out and all in very sheltered positions.

Rob and Kath were fantastic hosts, they're total ethos is for you to chill out and relax, and they achieve it perfectly.

The facilities are great and they are kept extremely clean at all times.

The camp fire was fantastic and was definitely a winner with the adults and the kids, who also loved roaming about the site and playing hide and seek in the trees.

We did have the site to ourselves for the majority of our stay so maybe the kids got away with a bit more because of this.

A great base for relaxing, fishing or just exploring this beautiful area.

I now know what people mean when they say that they sometimes don't want to submit a review in case the site becomes to popular, but to stop Rob and Kath from being successful in their venture would be an injustice.

Thanks and see you again soon. Hope you enjoyed the fish!

We have just returned from this delightful site. When we arrived it was pouring with rain but the warm welcome we received from Rob and Cath soon cheered us up they could not have been more helpful.

The site is small and quite with good flat pitches and 4 Electric hook ups. Rob told us to pitch where ever we wanted and even offered us an extension to our EHU to reach almost any pitch. Each pitch is sheltered by trees and you can have a fire if you want to.

The facilities are excellent (two toilets with sinks, one shower and two kitchen type sinks for washing up) with lots of little extra touches and very clean.

If you like Lighthouses, cliffs, hidden beaches, woodlands gorgeous countryside and wildlife then you would enjoy this often overlooked part of Scotland.

Stranraer is surprisingly good for shopping and for eating out Portpatrick is a must. On a good sunny day the Mull of Galloway is simply stunning!

We spent a wonderfully relaxing week at this delightful site and it suited our goal perfectly, which was to have a quiet holiday and enjoy the beaches and gardens of the Rhinns. The owners, Kath and Rob, couldn't have been kinder or more ready to do whatever they could to make our stay perfect.

The site is small but scenic, sheltered by belts of trees and yet offering secluded individual pitches. We had a large family tent and it fitted nicely into a quiet corner, well sheltered from any wind and provided with a picnic table.

Apparently we could have had a campfire if we'd wanted but in fact the weather was so hot that we never needed one.

Rob mows rides through the woodland, which make delightful short walks and there is a seat at the top of the hill which makes a great viewpoint for checking the weather on both coasts - and for watching the deer that frequent the area. The site was ideal for our dogs, too, though they need to be kept on a lead at all times.

The new shower block was excellent. Spotlessly clean, it has a large walk-in wet room type shower and offers the shared (with other campers) use of a fridge, plus good facilities for washing up, laundry and plugging in a hairdryer, plus many thoughtful little extras like hand soap, a drainer, books to borrow and a noticeboard with local information.

The site is primarily most suitable for tents and smaller caravanettes. Opposite the shower block are a number of electric hook-ups but manoeuvring space is limited, so it wouldn't be suitable for larger motorhomes or caravans.

The owners are keen to preserve its atmosphere of rural peace and it's unlikely to suit families with young children, unless they're keen on watching wildlife and quieter pursuits. In fact, the dawn chorus was wonderful, no doubt due to the excellent habitat in the woodland and hedges.

We would definitely come back to this site: it was an easy drive from the wonderful beaches on both east and west coasts of the Rhinns (ask Kath for advice on where to go) and there were many places to dine on excellent seafood or have wonderful afternoon teas, not least Castle Kennedy, which made a great day out.

This is a sadly overlooked corner of Scotland that offers excellent holiday attractions for those looking for peace and relaxation and the North Rhins campsite fits that bill to perfection. We'll be back!
