First time camping with the kids, and a great site to choose for the first go! We were met on arrival by the very friendly campsite manager and shown to our pitch, down through the static caravans, to the lower field which was flat and spacious. There are some electric hook-ups available for tents but not many, we missed out on booking these (book early to get one!) so were able to select whichever pitch we wanted when we got there.

In our section, tents were spaced around the edge of the field and we were quite far away from the toilet block - so a bit of a walk to the showers, etc. , but not a problem. Never really had to queue for what were clean, presentable and reasonably modern facilities, which were regularly cleaned during the day. The washing up facilities were few in number and at peak times queues occurred - another couple of sinks would not go amiss.

Plenty of walks around the site and lots of trees/fields around too - very quiet at night, we even found some glow-worms whilst out exploring one night! This is a child friendly site but there are no specific facilities for children, just plenty of space to run around in and enjoy.

We had a great time at this well located site and would recommend it; the staff were helpful and regularly checking up on things, it was located down a quiet country lane and was a peaceful, well run campsite.

Visited over the August Bank Holiday. Were met by very friendly people who showed us the camping fields and told us we could camp anywhere. We chose the meadow field as was closest to the toilets.

Lovely huge field which was flat as a pancake! A woodland walk takes you to the facilities block which is clean but only 2 showers and dishwashing sinks but never had to queue long for either of these.

The laundry room also houses a free freezer to free your blocks although bring something named to put them in as it appeared someone had taken someone else's blocks by mistake.

We have an 8 year old child who loved running about in the field but would have loved a small play area,

Otherwise this is a lovely peaceful site and would definitely camp here again.

Access to the site from Burton Bradstock was tricky along a stretch of narrow road. Reception was first class and everything explained well. The camping field was through an area of Holiday Homes.

There were 8 hook ups and water available in several places. Surrounded by trees all seemingly dropping leaves and getting in the van was a nuisance.

One night / morning the heavens opened and the fact that the loos were quite a walk was a problem to those in tents. The torrential rain drowned the site and cars moving people around left bow waves. This was extreme and in noway the sites fault.

The town was about a mile away and has a couple of restaurants (expensive).

Generally a lovely site but the loos / showers needed to be nearer the users.

This is a really nice campsite - one of the best we've stayed at.

The pitches are nicely marked out with low two-bar fences all around the camping fields and short extensions of the fence to mark out the individual plots. They are very generous in size with easily enough room for a large family tent and space to park the car. Each field has its own drinking water station and grey water disposal drain which are very clean and well maintained.

The toilet and shower block is very neat and clean with good hot water supply and good facilities, including a laundry and washing up area adjacent.

The staff were unobtrusive by friendly and they have a new feature where a van with a log-burning oven comes round on a Saturday night and serves cooked-to-order pizzas which were excellent value for money.

All in all an excellent site

Beautiful site, clean facilities and well kept site. Big pitches, with plenty of space to sit out for meals in the sun.

Initially very wet and slippy underfoot which resulted in an unfortunate incident of a broken limb with an over zealous game of rugby!

Lovely village and close to amenities in Bridport. West bay and harbour unspoilt and within walking distance.

Touring site split into 3 separate areas with 8 EHUs.

Will return again, really loved Dorset.

A gem of a campsite. Quiet, peaceful, and laid back. It's not on the main road, so unless you know where it is, it might be tricky to find, but that's part of its charm.

The staff are easy going, helpful, and very friendly. While the main business is permanent trailer homes, the camping fields are tucked away down by the river.

Flat, well cared for grass, and surrounded by light trees, it's a 'choose your own site' in generous allocations.

Facilities are clean, with good hot showers, and separate washing up area. (Admittedly, I chose to shower late in the evening so as not to compete at peak times).

The village is a modest walk of perhaps 15 minutes, along the river, (Beach another 25 minutes walking) and there's an excellent pub in the village offering the most fabulous fish dishes - a little expensive at around £19 per dish - but excellent quality.

But if you want entertainment on site, or a bar or pool, this is not for you. Suits me - I'll be back.

Coastal caravan park was very pleasant. Surrounded by trees and quiet (apart from the dawn chorus) countryside it is well kept and clean. Toilets and showers were a bit of a walk from the camping field but very clean and pleasant. There is also a washing up area and a laundry room with an iron and ironing board and a freezer to freeze your ice sachets which was very useful. A bit of a walk from the village. Local small beach Hive is National Trust and very nice. Not sandy but small pebbles. Not ideal for small children as the beach shelves away so large waves crash onto the beach. Very good cafe offering take away cream teas !

Cannot understand why there are not more reviews about this site

The touring and camping area is in a separate field through the statics down by the river hence it is nice and quiet (you can hear the sea at night).

Plenty of birds around, especially woodpeckers with water vole and kingfishers on the river.

There are only 6 - 10 hook ups placed in one area but there are 3 separate areas for camping, all of which have their own fresh water taps.

The facilities block is situated within the staic park and is modern with 4 toilets and 2 showers (free) in each block, hairdryers are 20p.

There is also a laundry room inbetween although we did not use this.

The chemical toilet emptying area is behind the toilet block.

WiFi is available at a charge

There are no children's play facilities, this is a site more suited to adults.

The village of Burton Bradstock with 2 pubs, a post office and a Spar store is a 20 minute walk away on a footpath through the fields and along the river.

Bridport with a variety of shops and a Morrisons is a 15 min drive away, has a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

West Bay has a lovely small harbour with typical seaside shops plus some nice cafes and bars plus fish and chip shops

From the site there is a nice walk over fields to Ogden Beach and along the coast to The Hive where there is a superb cafe which specialises in fresh fish , it is very popular and gets extremely busy.

If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful site which is not too far from the coast this is the place to go

We spent a few nights at Coastal early in July. Our first contact with the site was the site manageress calling me to confirm that they would accept our large tent (a Sunncamp festiva - 7m x 7m). She was very pleasant on the phone and happily answered my questions.

Coastal is a relatively small site (approx 40 pitches) - it has quite a few statics that you have to drive past (and walk past back to the toilet block) but the camping area is set out nicely, with clearly marked pitches. We opted for electrical hook up (16A), and there are only about 6 such pitches. It appears that pitches are allocated on arrival / by yourself as there was a notice up saying if you had booked but arrived past the booking in time you just had to find an empty (electric or non-electric as per booking) pitch and settle in. The site manager helpfuly suggested which pitch to choose relating to the best draining ones (after several days of solid rain) and the ones that got the most sun (if the sun ever came out).

We were the only people camping on the first night so had a very peaceful time. Even with other campers there, this is a quiet campsite. The facilities are in a brick-built building and reasonably clean. As they're set in amongst the statics it could be quite a walk if you were pitched at the furthest corner of the site.

Showers (4 in total) are electric (instant hot water) type with no tokens / coins needed. There was a 20p coin operated hair dryer in the ladies'. There are two washing up basins, and a laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer (both at extra cost) and freezer for ice block exchange (free). There is also a pay phone near the reception office, with a good supply of tourist information leaflets.

There is a short nature-trail walk within the campsite, and several public footpaths. There is a play park in the village (about a mile away), a pub and post office.

Coastal campsite is part of the West Dorset Leisure Holidays group, and the facilities at the other bigger sites are available to campers at Coastal. Bizarrely, despite the name, Coastal isn't as close to the coast as the other main sites which are a few miles down the road!
