 This was our first visit at this site as wife doesn't do basic camping. Safe to say we both loved it and we will be back next year!
Site has 2 sides to it, grass and woodlands. You can pick and choose where you want to pitch. You will have to use wheelbarrow to get your tent and everything else to your prefered spot. Cars are only allowed in the car park area.
As for facilities you have a compost toilets (with cut flowers for ladies) and basic but hot showers. You can recycle almost everything as this is a eco friendly site.
We chosen woodland site that was just brilliant. Enough shade for our 2 huskies to relax in and enough sun for us to enjoy too.
Wood fires and barbecues are allowed in fire pits provided. You can buy wood and charcoal on site, which we did and you get enough to last you all night.
You can do all your food shopping at local village shop that's 5min drive away or you can walk there too.
When driving to the site be aware of New Forest ponies that stroll along the road.
If you are after a campsite with entertainment for kids and pub for adults then this isn't a site for you. It's all about back to basic and appreciating nature.
Owners are very helpful and very friendly and go out of their way to make sure you have great time.
We will definitely visit again next year and would recommend to all that appreciate nature and basic camping.

What an amazing find here on UK Campsites.
The friendly owners Ginny and Roly are the host and hostess with the mostest!
We were greeted warmly and after being shown the facilities, we were allowed to walk around the site to choose where we wanted to camp.
There is plenty of choice between open meadow or in the woods. The open meadow pitches are all well apart with long grass to provide extra seclusion and privacy but you can always join Roly and Ginny with a cup of tea or invite other campers around for a glass of wine around the open campfire.
We spent our first evening cooking on the open fire and enjoying the peace (the only sound was the fire crackling) and looking up at the vast array of stars in the open sky. (no light pollution here)
The compost toilet was very clean and easy to use as was the lovely hot shower. A very relaxed site. We will be back! :)

Disappointing.
Positives: The owners were pleasant; the campsite is in a pretty location with a variety of pitches in woodland or meadow, and tents well-spaced; it was quiet most of the time (though occasional families don't always respect the peace); it was nice that cars were left in a central car park away from the tents and using wheelbarrows to cart stuff around worked quite well; it was possible to get a hot shower (but it was not ideal - see below); there were ponies in an adjacent field - but none running wild and damaging tents as was reported at some other New Forest campsites!
Negatives: Dubious 'Eco' credentials: they don't recycle or compost as much as we do at home - it just seemed to be an excuse for not using any new materials to construct the facilities - which were decidedly shabby.
No electricity on site means you have to boil every bit of hot water needed for washing, shaving, or washing up. There's no lighting in the toilets, nowhere to charge phones etc. Or to freeze icepacks (so we had to shop daily and wasted quite a bit of food which couldn't be safely kept). Two redundant archaic and broken electric switches
Safety was poor in various respects:
* Some steps were made of old pallets, which became slippery when wet - one of our party slipped and fell.
* A narrow plank of wood, supported on crates and other bits of wood, to access the gents toilet tent. Or a wobbly stool sideways-on in the entrance to the ladies toilet were both precarious (especially when you are half asleep and it's unlit at night).
* The shower consisted of an LPG cylinder powering a domestic boiler attached to a tree, which supplied a shower head over a shower tray inside an adapted gazebo. The boiler leaked and it was sometimes difficult to control the water temperature - one of our party scalded themselves.
The shower head was lashed up at too low a height for any adult to wash their hair. As there was no shower curtain, the decking floor was continually wet and also dirty with leaves etc. And you have to be careful not to soak your clothes and shoes! The shower gazebo fabric 'walls' were secured with velcro which kept coming loose or falling down, and there was a gap at low level that could not be re-fixed, so it didn't feel entirely private.
The zip to the gents toilet gazebo was broken for 2 days too! There was only 1 gents and 1 ladies toilet plus 1 shower for everyone, which was not really adequate for the number of campers. Compost toilets were also very full and not a sustainable composting facility. Neither toilet was at the usual height (even with the stool in the ladies) - not ideal for children or shorter adults. Toilet paper regularly ran out for a day or two - take your own! The sawdust for use in the compost toilets also kept running out.
There was no basin in the gents toilet - only a standing tap over a shower tray outside - so the gents had to use the wash up sink for cleaning teeth, washing or shaving. The basin in the ladies WC, which appeared pretty clean in the half-light when we arrived, did not appear to be cleaned throughout the rest of our stay. My partner complained that the gents WC was often dirty too, and he cleaned it up a bit. I saw no evidence that anything else was cleaned either.
To sum up, if it wasn't such an effort to move all our stuff, we wished we had not put up with it and had moved elsewhere.

Fish Ponds Bottom is set in the New Forest and is the most beautiful, peaceful location I have been to in a very long while.
When we arrived on site we were greeted by Roly who runs the site with Ginny, our welcome was warm and friendly meaning we felt relaxed right away. The site has few sections where it is possible to pitch your tent, one of the sections is in a wooded area and another is on the other side of the site in a meadow area.
We chose to pitch our tent in the meadow area, although being more in the open we still had a huge amount of privacy due to parts of the site left to grow and create habitats for wildlife.
The toilets on site are compost toilets as the site tries to be environmentally friendly as possible, it took my partner a while to get used to the toilets, but I felt they added to the character of the site.
There is a shower on site which has been made from completely recycled/reused materials which I have to say is fantastic and works very well indeed (despite what other reviews on here say).
During our stay we were delighted when two other campers who are in a folk band put on a small impromptu concert for the other campers which was perfect on a sunny Saturday evening.
This Campsite really is a wonderful place and Roly & Ginny are truly lovely hosts who believe its important not to pack the site full of campers and ensure there is space and privacy for all on site I hope to be returning very soon as Fish Ponds Bottom is truly a little piece of paradise.

We stayed here with friends (adults and children). The location is quiet and pitches are a good size. It was lovely to camp either in the woodland area or grassy area and not be in a big field. You can have camp fires and BBQ which is great. Lots to do out and about, lovely walks, nice pubs, historical interest. Despite all this we would not return until the facilities were improved. We don't mind basic and have been to camp sites with composting toilets before. Unfortunately the women's toilet was just not high enough and was not emptied regularly enough. The men's toilet was also not great. The shower was very good but only one and on a busy weekend you need to queue. Only one cold water sink for washing up, also tricky on a busy weekend and in the rain as the covering is very make shift and not big enough.

Myself and my 2 daughters (aged 10 and 13) stayed here for a glorious weekend in late July. I had chosen the site based upon reviews I had read here, and I was not disappointed.
We like the less developed sites, and like peace and quiet at night. This was most definitely the most peaceful site we have been on. Whilst there were a few big groups here, I think they were advised to remain quiet after 11, which is in the site rules. This really suited me and my girls.
When you arrive you can borrow fire pits and buy firewood for a very reasonable price - and you get the paper, kindling AND logs which is great. We only had one on our second night but one £2 pack lasted us the evening! We also used the fire pit to raise our gas cooker off the ground when cooking.
Toilets are eco - so the long drop with sawdust to cover it. Me and my youngest were fine with this but the 13 year old slightly less keen! We didn't try the shower as it was a quirky step too far for my girls!
There are wooded and open spots, and you can choose where to pitch. We were late so didn't have a lot of choice but were happy with our slight banked space with very little through traffic. We had high grass surrounding our pitch which gave us some privacy.
On our second night half of a band turned up - just for a holiday I think - but they played an impromptu concert which was lovely! It's testament to the friendly nature of this site that we all stood/sat listening to the music and the kids danced along!
The owners Ginny and Roly are lovely and treat you like old friends. They even lent me a new ice block which was a life saver on this hot weekend when I only had one!
The new forest is on the doorstep and fordingbridge is good for shopping and refreshing dip too!
For us, we were missing a play area for the children (I like mine to make the most of being outside and go play football/frisbee with the other kids on site) - hence why 8 out of 10 not 10! I think for families with toddlers or couples this is a perfect spot!

As some others have said, I really don't want to leave a review so that it doesn't become too popular!
This is an amazing site - so peaceful and friendly. It is basic, with only the bare necessities, which is what is so appealing. Pick your own spot, no cars at the pitches, open fires and BBQs.
I'm sure we will be back! Thanks to the owners.

Great little site tucked away in a beautiful part of the New Forest. We had full choice of where to pitch when we arrived and it was quite refreshing to be on a site where you were allowed to make your own choice and wander/explore before pitching the tent.
We loved the honesty box for the firewood and kindling and the little home-made bags of fire packs. The shower was better than our one at home whilst the compost loo worked fine.
We had a leisurely 15 minute walk to the next village where the is a great shop with all you need to stock up and there's a great pub reasonably priced nearby.
The owners are very welcoming and friendly. Our kids plus dog loved the space to play/explore and it really is worth stopping off here.

We were looking for a small, quiet, unspoilt field for a chill out weekend. Fish Ponds Bottom was perfect! It is very peaceful, very pretty and certainly not for anyone wanting lots of modern facilities. You can pitch in the woods or in the meadow like field. We chose the field at the top which was perfect for us. We backed on to the hedgerow and had a very large area to ourselves. It felt very private and we didn't feel over looked at all. The cars are parked in one area and you use a wheelbarrow to get your stuff to your tent. Very novel and much nicer without cars all over the place. There is a place to wash up which is kept very clean. The loos are novel too. Nothing modern. Just the toilet seat over a hole which you put sawdust in, there is a sink and even fresh flowers in there! The showers were eco friendly too. The owners were very friendly and helpful and even brought us a hot flask of water when our gas canister ran out! Wonderful! There is New Forest walking on the doorstep which of course as always is very beautiful. There is a co op in the nearby village of Downton for any provisions. We took our own BBQ but you could use ones that were there and charcoal was also there at a minimal charge. We would highly recommend Fish Ponds Bottom if you are looking for a quiet beautiful little site.

This incredible campsite is quite idyllic. The individual sites are separated by mown paths which makes campers feel screened in their own little meadow surrounded by long grasses.
The woodland pitches also looked beautiful with a great swing for kids.
We were lucky enough to have a very separate pitch on top of a little hill, this entailed taking up all our gear in a barrow as the cars are all parked centrally on the pitch away from tents. This was more fun than trouble.
The enormous oaks surrounded us and we enjoyed watching bats and later shooting stars beside our fire. The logs to buy are a good combination of woods and the locally sourced charcoal excellent for cooking easily and evenly.
The owners greeted us with no trouble and showed us how it all works in a relaxed fashion, made everything feel cosy. The facilities of compost loos, washing up post and semi open air self built shower were all delightfull and functioned well.
A great peaceful and happy place!
