Great little site with owners that cannot do enough for you. Good walks to pubs along towpath with plenty to see. Only used it as an overnighter but would go back for a longer stay and use, great base. Its quiet nice and great views, definitely go again. Apparently I need to write more in my review otherwise it wont get posted, here goes. The fields hold horses and sheep, away from the dogs you may bring, the river is wet and free fishing, but you will need a rod licence. The campsite has no hardstanding and can get a little boggy in wet weather but this is not a problem as owners will help.

We went to this site in September, for us it was absolutely ideal, the owners were wonderful, helpful, generally a very nice couple. The site itself was quiet, there were lots of fruit around, especially apples and blackberrys. It is a pleasantly rural area, and as such there were combines harvesting, hedges being trimmed, but neither were close enough to disturb the peace.

The facilities were great, the new toilet/shower block was good, the waste disposal point, well what can you say about that, it was handy (not too close, mind) but it serves its purpose. There is a 'Woodhenge' (as opposed to Stonehenge) construction the other side of the site to where we stayed. When you look around you begin to see how practical a man the owner is, looks like his son is following in his footsteps.

Close by is the town of Retford, which we visited on many occasions, and the market days, well, when I'm retired I think I just might go up there just for market day, especially the Antique(ish) one on Fridays. Also close by are the nature reserves, Sherwood Forest, the river idle, some pubs, our favourite pub was the Gate Inn, and to top the week off we were invited to join the owners for a drink in their very own 'pub'. One week was just not long enough to explore what the area has to offer. And I haven't mentioned the canal - pleasant walks along it, both ways. Lots of ducks and swans, a visit to the Whit Sunday Pie Locks, all in all, a brilliant break, a great place, and will we go again? Absolutely.

PS. You do need some pound coins for the meter, but be assured the owner is not profiteering from this system, we paid in £5-00 and when we left on the Saturday there was still some credit left in the meter.

Just had a weekend here. First the pros: a secluded site for peace and quiet, adjacent to the Chesterfield Canal with good fishing. The male and female toilet facilities were always clean with a single shower available (50p)and seem recently built although some finishing work is required. The owners are very friendly and dogs are welcomed. A short walk either way along the towpath to 2 pubs with local real ales and good food and prices.

Cons: We did not see any hardstandings as described, nor launch/mooring areas or games room.

The CDP has a cassette rinse available from a nearby water butt, but the disposal site itself has no water available and hence was in a disgusting state. Be aware there is an extra charge for visitors of £4 per person per visit. Edges of the site were heavily overgrown with hawthorn and nettles and piles of grass cuttings giving the place a neglected appearance

The main attraction for us was the peace and quiet and the fishing, and yes we probably would return

What a terrific hide-away adult only site, extremely peaceful only a blackbird broke the silence. You need to watch out for the turning as it is only a very narrow single track road. The site is literally just at the other side of the bridge so you may need to turn into the site to be able to contact the owners as the gates are kept locked to their premises, but not the site. Just a few yards from lovely towpath walks. Two minutes from one of three pubs - each serving excellent meals. Lots of space for each unit, dogs also allowed. The toilet and shower block looks antiquated but inside is spotlessly clean. Honesty box of 50p for the shower which was lovely and hot. Electric hook-ups are metered so take some pound coins, we put in £3 for two nights but didn't use it all. Our camping electric kettle kept shorting out the electric but other than that really enjoyed our break.
