Down a quiet lane this site is in the epitome of a peaceful location. This well kept site has been owned and run (with the assistance of Alfred the spaniel) by David and Sue, a lovely and helpful couple, for more years than they may care to remember!
For a certificated site it is very well appointed with a water point, chemical disposal point and mains electric points as well as separate male and female toilets and a spacious shower room.
There are two flat, grassed areas surrounded by mature trees which give good shelter and lots of space between the units.
Dark and quiet nights broken only by the hooting of owls which David and Sue have encouraged to the area by the erection of owl boxes.
The Chesterfield canal, home to an abundance of wildlife including swans, ducks, moorhens and their young, runs past the site and during our relaxing and enjoyable week we were able to launch our canoe several times.
The canal towpath is just one of several local walks and there are two good pubs within a short walk.
We visited Newark Air Museum and Cresswell Crags during our stay and are both highly recommended. Retford is just a short drive (or cycle) away and there's a good variety of shops and places to eat here.
David and Sue have lived in and been involved in the wellbeing of this area for many years and are a font of local knowledge. They made us feel very welcome during our stay and we feel they are very much part of the reason that this is a hidden gem.
We look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Adorable x3
Dave & Sue are both adorable and their fantastic site too 🥰
So much more than your average location. If your looking for a great place to stay, which is food for the soul - this is it.
It's unique, born from the love of it's keepers (Dave&Sue), a true labour of love; quirky & interesting.
I was reluctant to leave and most definitely will return.
Adjacent to the site is a canal with a 10minute walk (left tow path) to a pub which serves food.
On approach to the site is a steep little bridge which you are unable to see over when driving, I would suggest that if there's two of you, that one get out and make sure no one is approaching from the other side.
I very much look forward to returning 💌

Stayed 2 nights and although the weather was a mixture of sunshine and showers we enjoyed the location very much.
Cycled along the canal tow path towards Retford ( quite overgrown in places ) and on day 2 kayaked to the Hop Pole pub, tied up the kayak and enjoyed a pint by the canal.
The site was extremely quiet, only us and one orher. Facilities were bit dated but clean.
Fresh egg’s available which we had for breakfast.
The bridge to the site is narrow and we just got over with minimal clearance under the van.
Owners extremely friendly. Ate one night at The Boat Inn a short walk from the site which was decent food.
Would recommend and stay again. Reasonably priced at £18 pn.

Fabulous small site which was ideal for us. Owners are a chatty couple who are helpful and approachable.
The site is cheap £15 per night with an electric meter if you require a hook up.
There is only one shower which is basic but it has plenty hot water and no time limit payable via an honesty box cost £1.
Near to the canal with a pub and beer garden which looked very nice.
Will certainly use this site again.

This is a brilliant little site and we will definitely be back.
The owners were a wonderful chatty couple and it was a pleasure to meet them.
The canal is right by the side of the site with Retford about 3 miles one way and a marina a couple of bridges down the other way.
There is a bus into Retford at the end of the lane just a few hundred yards along the road.

What a hidden Gem this site is, The owner is such a charming gentleman very helpful and shows you where everything is, wildlife in abundance from squirrels galore to owls, magpies and other birds of prey.
Loved watching the squirrels, one of our dogs wanted to see the squirrels a little to much and did bark a bit too much.
The canal is a 2 minute walk from the site and was easily accessed for putting the kayak on would be better if was easier to get in to, need lock key to go further up as there are a few locks, but the other way is a nice too ending up at a pub, we didn’t use toilets and showers but showers are 50p,
This is a lovely small site with fire pit and barbecue on site too, lovely place to chill out and recharge
Also only place I’ve ever know you pay for your electricity by £1 coins so not overcharged which is honestly a pleasant surprise
Recommended to my camping pals

Its a great little site
Convenient walking distance for two pubs, one of which was shut, the other just serving outside.
Watching the boats go past on Chesterfield canal whist having a pint and a pizza Brilliant
Also very handy for Retford

Very quiet and peaceful. Basic toilet but clean. Cassette toilet disposal adequate but could be better. Owner nice and helpful. Chesterfield canal a short walk away, very convenient. Electric £1 coins, showers 50p honesty box. No waste disposal facilities on site all rubbish needs to be taken home. Ok site but not for us.
