A lovely site. Friendly owners. Small but convenient shop and information centre. Small, but adequate play area for the children. There was even a football net provided which my youngest child loved. My elder enjoyed the stream / river than ran through the back of the fields.
We were fortunate enough to have glorious weather this BH weekend enabling us to visit Decoy Country Park near Torquay - fabulous place; has swings / slides etc and a lake where you can kayak, canoe, even windsurf. Another favourite nearby is Becky Falls.
The only downside was that we were pitched near the main road so were frequently disturbed during the night by the noise of motorists.

We stayed at this site over the new year of 08/09. The owner has been doing a lot of improvements. We were put on new hardstanding pitches that he was still wiring when we were pitching. Owners were very helpful and full of information on local facilities etc.
This site is quite close to the main A38 but the noise is very minimal. As stated, we were there over the new years holidays. The site was on the quiet side. The toilets were clean and there was plenty of hot water. The heating could have been a little better as in minus 4 degrees c you needed it.
There is a pub not far away that does a very good menu although a little pricey.
The site has a small shop on site that deals with the basics and Newton Abbott is only a short drive away with all the Tesco etc stores.
All in all a very nice little site and we have no problems returning.

After popping in on the off chance as we were flooded at our previous site the owners were very accommodating. The owners only took over the site in March and I mut say they are doing a fantastic job the entire site is kept very clean and tidy. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone is only too happy to help. The noise from the A38 is a bit of an issue especially if like us you are placed on the overspill field right next to it (The uphill road makes for some noisy lorries!). We only stayed for the 2 nights but we certainly did enjoy it using the site as a good springboard into the Torbay area. Torquay is beutiful but it has to be said that Paington is on a slippery slope the whole area is run down and scruffy but the Zoo is definitely worth a visit.
The owners did advise us that they are considering banning larger tents due to the damage caused to the grass I hope this is not the case as we would love to use them again.

We stayed for 2 nights before going further down to Cornwall and then 3 nights on the way back.
Our first visit was on the first hard standing on the right as you come in.
A Red Bull BMX event was on and a large number of lads were camping to the left of us. They were not all together though. Our first night was ok, but the second had 3 lads in a VW camper van were playing music until 3am in the morning. We phoned the owners who came at once and told them to stop.
Our second visit was much better as we were placed near the lemonford river at the far left of the site. This is where a lot of seasonal caravans are kept and was nice and quiet.
A play area for children and goal for footballers is nearer to the road. This area is also for tents. I also noticed that small tents were amongst the trees. This seemed a very nice place to pitch up.
The popular tors of Hounds Tor and Haytor are very nearby.
Will be coming back to stay again.

Liked this site, but the noise from the A38 was a bit of a problem. However, for a one night stop over it was nice. Toilets and showers very clean and the pitches were well laid out, the statics are kept separate from the tourers Friendly owners, nothing too much trouble, would go again.

I have stayed at Lemonford several times, it is a family run site which has been immaculately kept every time I have visited. I always find the atmosphere to be relaxed and friendly. The owners Mark and Debbie take great pride in the site, which is also their home. The grassed areas are neatly mown, pitches kept weed free, fencing well maintained etc. Care is also taken of the local environment and recycling is encouraged. The River Lemon borders the site but in reality it is a very small brook. Much of the site is screened by trees.
The static I stayed in was a new model, clean and nicely situated. It was equipped with everything that I needed. Next to the van was a picnic table and bench with car parking alongside. I walked around the site and in my opinion the pitches for the tourers and tents seemed well layed out and not too close together. I counted more than 3 showers and all were clean and well maintained. The water pressure in my static was higher than what I had a home.
The shop on site provides basic groceries and newspapers can also be ordered. In the grounds are a play area for children and a small pitch and putt area. A leaflet produced by Bickington Parish Council is available in the shop which gives routes of local walks. The site is ideally located for those who want to explore a variety of places. Dartmoor is literally only a few miles away, the coast a little further. Access to many other parts of Devon and Cornwall is easy via the A38 which runs close by. The site does not back onto any dual carriageway, though background road noise can be heard at times. I didn't find it intrusive when I sat outside.
I had lovely food at the Dartmoor Halfway Inn, which can be reached via a walk through fields or a couple of minutes by car, also the Rising Sun in Woodland. Not the cheapest but quality food in pleasant surroundings. Three miles away is Trago Mills, which apart from the shopping has activities for kids, Newton Abbot is five miles away and there are 24 hour Tescos, an Asda and Sainsbury. In Ashburton, which is a couple of miles away there is a nice Chinese takeway called Yau's and a chippy called the Red Mullet. For those that like organic or free range food, two well known suppliers are close by. The Well Hung Meat Company is located just off the A38 near Rattery and the Riverford Food Company at Staverton is open 7 days a week and a ten minute car journey just off the A38 on the A384. There are plenty of attractions close by and the tourist hut next to the shop has plenty of leaflets and information.
Overall I would recommend this site for those who want a pleasant peaceful stay.I would not recommend this site to those that want organised entertainment or the ambience of a holiday camp.

We have recently returned from a two week stay at Lemonford and we are so glad we took the chance and disregarded some of the negative comments we read re this site. It is advisable to thoroughly read the park website as it does put across on there that it is a quiet park which does not have a club or swimming pool, thus appealing as it did to us the quieter camper / caravanner who is there to appreciate the beautiful surroundings rather than be entertained as is done at more raucous commercial parks. However there is a small shop, which has a good basic stock and the town of Newton Abbot is a 4 mile drive away where there is Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys. The facilities were kept immaculate by the staff who made sure they were brought back up to standard every day even though some users did not have the courtesy to leave them in the very good condition they would have found them in. There were 3 shower cubicles in each of the male and female toilet blocks and I believe another block is opened at busy times.
We had a pleasant 15 minute walk to a local country pub which served lovely food, the drive to the resort of Torquay is a little tiresome due to heavy traffic, it is about 8 miles away on a main A road, but this did not prove a problem to us as we preferred to spend our time exploring and appreciating the beautiful Dartmoors which are on the doorstep and the prettier less commercial resorts and beaches to be found nearby, we would feel this is the like minded people to which this park is suited rather than folk who want the hustle and bustle of the major resort of Torquay.
We had a lovely two weeks. Due to the park being privately owned by a family we felt very welcome regularly seeing the owners for a friendly chat. Lemonford will definitely be our park of choice when we visit Devon and hopefully we will see again many of the other people we got to know who actually keep their tourers there for regular return visits.

Just returned from a 1 week stay at this campsite and I have to say I was a little disappointed. The weather was glorious when we arrived but after a very wet July we rang to check that the pitches etc were OK. Owner told us that there had only been 2 days of rain there and we would be fine. However upon arrival we feel this may have been a bit of a fib! Ground was very soft and quickly turned to clarts. Drainage appeared to be poor. The campsite was surprisingly large - we were pitches 70 & 71, and there were a fair few after us, however there were only 3 showers for the whole campsite which were closed everyday between 11.00 - 12.30 for cleaning. The shower block was very outdated (nice 1970's brown flowery tiles!) and standing under the shower was like standing under a watering can! Oh dear. Showers frequently were covered in hairballs and the mop was filthy. If you arrived at the block after 10AM it resembled a bit of a swimming pool. I know it is peak season, but I feel a camp of this size should have better facilities. Again we were surprised that the campsite said it was only 5 miles from Torquay. It was actually nearer 12 miles, along very busy windy lanes the drive took us about 45 minutes everyday. No shop on the site, no pub - the nearest was well over a mile away - again along busy country lanes. The site also backs onto a dual carriageway which provided constant noise which peaked around 7AM for rush hour - not nice when you are on your holidays! Overall - You can put up with it for a short while but we wont be returning to Lemonford in a hurry!

Visited this site in July 2006 and it was the first time we had been camping since we were kids – some 20 years. A fantastic campsite! Quiet and tidy, with immaculate shower, laundry and wash-up facilities. This is not a large site compared to many but pitch sizes are good and clearly marked. We don’t have kids so can’t really comment on the play area provided. All we can say is that the kids seemed to get on well and had sufficient room for a game of footie without using people’s tents as goals! There are a few static caravans on this site in a separate area.Located just off the motorway and easy to find as well signposted. Not much within walking distance but a good cycle (bit hilly round about) will take you to a couple of pubs. A short drive and you will find a few nice pubs or Newton Abbott is just a little further. There is a little village shop up the road and you’ll find a good size supermarket (Tesco I think….) opposite the racecourse in Newton Abbot.Good location to easily get to Dawlish, Dartmouth, Torquay and Teignmouth. If you are looking for a low-key site to relax this is perfect. Would definitely visit this site again as the owners make you feel really welcome without imposing.

We have just returned from a two week stay at this very pleasant site and found the owners very accommodating, polite and friendly, our booking was a last minute decision and our son wanted to join us for a few days in his caravan and the site owners re-arranged things so that we could be near each other. There are two very clean toilet and shower blocks that are checked and cleaned at various times throughout the day, one of the toilet blocks only had one shower but the second block had three cubicles. The site is very quiet and peaceful (at times a little too quiet for us) and boarders the river Lemon (that looks more like a stream than a river), there is a local pub about a mile away serving food that was quite reasonable and if you didn't want to drive it was a pleasant fifteen minute walk away across open fields along a public bridleway, take a torch with you though for the walk back if you plan on staying till after dark. The site has a small shop in reception selling a few essentials and there is a very well stocked tourist information shack next door. Newton abbot is only about three miles away where you can get just about anything you need. There is a Tesco supermarket near the racecourse and a co-op supermarket at Trago mills just three miles away. In conclusion the site is very pleasant and well kept with all the attractions of south Devon close at hand, if we were to visit that part of Devon in the future we would certainly return to Lemonford Caravan Park.
