Found this campsite when doing the Devon CTC route on the pushbike and was pleasantly surprised to find it fully open in December - was expecting to find it shut and just ask for a pitch with access to the loo and drinking water. £8 for a night was a bit pricey for 1 man with a 1 man tent and a bicycle, especially given it's right next to the trunk road. However, the manager allowed me to put my tent in the caravan field (nearer to the shower block and away from the dartmoor tramping teenagers in the camping field). Showers and toilets are LOVELY, radiators were on, disabled facilities for those who need them, good washing up room. Wouldn't stay there there for more than a night but for a CTC sleep stop it's perfect.

We stayed here for a night on the way down to Cornwall to walk on Dartmoor. We chose this campsite because it was one of the few in the area which had EHU, showers and allowed children and dogs. Not much to ask, you may think, but surprisingly few campsites offered all this. We worried about the traffic noise after reading reviews of the campsite but were pleasantly surprised that it was not particularly noisy. If you live in a town of any size you would hear the same in your back garden - the A30 was not a problem, and this was just before the bank holiday weekend! In fairness, the galeforce 8 winds and torrential rain may have masked some of the noise.
The site was excellent, with generous well maintained pitches, EHUs everywhere and showers and toilets which were clean, tidy and warm. Plenty of room for me and my little girl to manage without problems. My husband reported equal standards in the men's area. The site was very quiet with mostly caravans, and no kids charging around everywhere screaming, which was nice. Whether this was just when we were there or whether it's always calm here, I don't know. The dog had a disused railway at the end of the site to walk along so even he was happy! The owners were very friendly too, and were happy to sell us ice cream for our daughter even though the little shop [in their conservatory!] had technically shut.
The location is perfect for getting out onto north Dartmoor and of course there's lots of walking and tourist places to visit. As the access to the A30 is so easy it was very quick to get going.
Next to the site is a pub with playground. We didn't use it as we were only there for one night and were anxious to get the tent up before the storm really set in, but the owners said it was very good.
Overall, we were very impressed with the site. It is well positioned, has good facilities and is very reasonably priced. An excellent stop for a night or two, but equally I can imagine it would be fine for a longer holiday. We're certainly stopping off here again in the future.

Cycle toured here in torrential rain and this campsite was our salvation! Impeccably clean facilities and owners went out of their way to ensure we were looked after, as dry as could be and even offered their barbecue awning to us. Adjacent pub is good honest home cooked fare and again we were really looked after. Pitches are level, grass clipping free and clean. Road noise absolutely fine. Would wholeheartedly recommend

The weather was fantastic which always helps. The owners were so relaxed about everything, from booking to paying and this really set us off on a good note.
The showers were fine, the facilities for walkers were perfect right on the edge of Datmoor and the walk around Meldon Quarry is a must.
Others have complained about the traffic noise and this nearly put me off, I am so glad it didn't. Yes if you want to listen out for the noise you will hear it. I appreciate we were in a motorhome so not so aware of noise as tenters, but it was not a problem.
I would not hesitate in recommending this site. I will definitely go back within the next few months.

This is a private site located at Stourton, off the A386 and close to the A30 between Exeter and Launceston. Handy for touring Devon or walking on Dartmoor. The site has 38 touring pitches plus tenting area. Road traffic noise from A30 can be high especially at peak times.
The site is gently sloping on grass with gravelled run-in strips. Open all year and was very wet when we stayed in January. Be sure to pitch your awning on the north side because the prevailing wind can be strong. Electrical hook-up rated at 12amps.
Toilet block was in course of upgrading and was clean but is unheated. No additional charge for showers. Lighting to toilet block is triggered by movement sensors and then timed so you need to get a move on with your shower or toilet or you can end up in the dark. Take a torch just in case!
Chemical disposal facility. Laundry room with washer and dryer, iron and board. Washing up room combined with laundry. Gas refills available. Free-range eggs.
Recycling facilities for paper, plastic and glass. Dog walk
We paid £13 per night for a caravan with two people and an awning.
Supermarkets (Waitrose & Somerfield) at Okehampton (about 3 miles). Petrol station within 1 mile selling most basics. Public house adjacent the site doing meals all day.
Local attractions include Dartmoor, Castle Drogo (National Trust), Moorwellham Quay and Lydford Gorge.
The lack of heating in the toilet block was a major drawback for us for a winter site.

As already said, lots of traffic noise.
However, we knew this already and camping this time of year where you don't spend the evenings outside, it wasn't a problem.
We found the pitches a bit small, but as campsite was only half full, not a problem.
Lovely situation, with walks onto Dartmoor direct from the site, also a cycle track.
Would visit again, only off-season though.

We had trouble finding a site with available pitches being the bank holiday and probably the best weather we got this summer.Lol. I phoned bundu and was told they had some space down the end of their site that is behind the hedge at the bottom,i must state that this area was suitable for 2 tents as the part we were on was just humps although the rest of the site had very nice pitches. The other problem is that the a30 runs very close and you will know its there. The toilet and showers are being upgraded, they were all very clean, the showers in the gents take 20p,lady,s free? This site is ideal for touring dartmoor and had fantastic walks from there. Also cycle hire almost next to site. I'm afraid we wont be returning due to the traffic noise.

We stayed here for three nights at the beginning of September. The site has easy access from the A30 but I'm afraid the traffic noise was atrocious the campsite being only 100 yards from the trunk road. In my opinion the price was high as well considering we had to pay extra for a shower and hair dryer and awning. That's the bad bits over. This is an ideal place to stay for touring Dartmoor and the parts of Cornwall around Launceston and the coast at Bude

July 2002 Lovely site on the edge of dartmoor. Ideal for touring Devon & Cornwall. We have been using this site for many years, the owners couldnt be more helpful, pitches are some of the largest we ever seen. The site backs on to a disussed railway which has been converted to a footpath and cycleway. Toilets may be old but are very clean. The site is next to the A30 so access is easy . One of the nicest quiet sites woe know which is value for money.
