Stayed here over a blisteringly hot weekend. We met up with some friends and camped in the shade of the trees. There is a large open field which had been left to go to seed so hay fever sufferers beware. A large group had set up camp at the far end of the field and partied until the small hours. Needless to say the campsite policy on quiet times and respect of other campers wasn't enforced. Still, we enjoyed ourselves and the open fire and freedom of the woods and field kept the kids entertained.
The porta cabin toilet block was clean and well kept and water always hot. Logs available to burn at a price too. Don't expect anything else, which is part of the charm.
We walked to nearby Alresford, a really pretty little Hampshire town. Beautiful countryside and varied wildlife.
Watch out for the ticks. They do carry Lyme disease in this area.

Just spent an excellent sunny weekend with the family at Abbotstone.
Glorious meadow that we pitched in was loved by our 2 year old and 6 year old girls, extremely child friendly environment.
The hot air balloon sliding towards our pitch once it crashed down proved an entertaining event for the kids (if not their slightly worried parents!).
The owner was fantastically helpful and bought round firewood in his car (even though my wife and mother insisted on dragging some back themselves. )
Toilets were good, as were the shiney new showers.
Great walks in the woods and lots of places to cycle if that's your thing.
We'll definitely be returning in the near future (and next time we'll try to avoid the 1am trip to A&E in Basingstoke with my dad and his dodgy ticker!).

Just spent two nights here and just loved it!. It's quite rough and ready, not too many rules and regs, so a very easy going site(though no big noisy groups or loud music) Dog friendly and allows campfires which is just fab. Basic toilet and shower facilities which are ok though could do with a clean and top up of toilet paper now and again!
Wood, fire grills and shovels to dig your fire pit available on site. Nick; the site manager, very friendly and helpful.
Set in beautiful meadows and woodlands; you can camp in either. Such a cool, chilled out place.
A hot air balloon decided to land in the middle of the field on friday evening; very exciting for all the kids there but can't say it's a great idea, very nearly missed peoples tents and totally terrified our dog. Spent the rest of the night trying to calm him down. Not good! Owners take note!)
We will def be back as long as no more balloons!

Just got back, lovely quiet field with lots of safe woods for the kids to play in. Flat field with good views. Very hidden away, no road noise, just a few jets into Southampton.
The drive off the main road is a very small track which is quaint, but then you pull up at the 'reception' which is an awful old caravan with an awful 2man tent beside it. We were very worried from the outset. The kids jumped out the car and were pointed to the ports cabin, temporary buildings toilets.
We were pointed through the woods to go and choose a pitch, after a little off roasting in my zafira we found the big field and set up camp.
Was looking forward to camp fire and had pennies ready for the well-spoken gent that brings them out-was devastated though when he dropped off a handful of logs and asked for £5. Gave me such a hump that I broke the rules and went into the woods and got some- which by the way everybody was doing.
I had a great stay but for £30 per night for me, wife and 2 kids the facilities were awful. Showers, brand new yes, but they are just a portakabin dropped in wasteland. I am not a snob, and have wild amped all over the country but paying this amount of money I wanted to be spoilt. I have spent far less and had far better facilities.
Great stay -yes
Return?-absolutely no chance

Apparently a relatively new site experiencing some teething problems when I stayed recently. I arrived on a busy bank holiday weekend Saturday and the campsite was pretty full. I think this is my biggest gripe - it's quite a large field and there were approximately 150 people staying, large tents and cars easily accommodated in the field. This isn't really what I was hoping for but I suspect others wouldn't mind.
The location is great. It's set amongst woodlands away from nearby roads which was great for kids and general exploring. The atmosphere was very relaxed. Facilities didn't really seem adequate for the large number of people on site, and water pressure failed quite dramatically on the evening of my visit. Showers were clean and I had hot water, although I got in there early. Same for toilets - just not really enough for the site. New Alresford was a 20 minute trip by bike down the road with shops/pubs/cafes - all in all a very pleasant old market town. Probably about 5/10 mins by car.
In the end I had quite a pleasant stay, and the child-friendly atmosphere was great, but I couldn't escape the feeling that there were just too many people crammed onto the site. Perhaps it would be much better on a quieter weekend. With the water debarcle I couldn't wait to get away in the morning.

We visited Abbostone Wood on the bank holiday in May and we are heading back this weekend as we loved it so much.
What I loved about the site was it's beautiful surroundings, the very accommodating gentleman who ran the site, the fact you could have open fires and the very relaxed atmosphere.
The children had such an adventure exploring the woods and making friends. We had glorious weather and managed to completely relax. Facilities are basic but very adequate for the site.
The surrounding area is stunning with many beautiful walks and the village of Alresford has a great local coffee shop,
Gift shops, pubs and convenience stores.
I would recommend this site highly to anyone.
