We booked this site as we wished to go into London, it is within 2 miles of a commuter line, only 40mins into the city.
The site itself is very well kept, yes it is small however that is not a problem if you are booked.
Ashwell is a Little gem worth the short walk shops, pubs abound this small village. News agent come provision shop, bakers, butchers, Indian take away, deli type shop are all close together.
We stayed a week and had a really good time. This site is upto the standards a CC member would expect and well worth a vist. Lack of play park caused me to wonder if this would be a problem, but a small play park is 2 minutes away in the village. SORTED

This is quite a small site by my experience with Caravan Club sites, but everything was to the usual excellent caravan club standard.
The pitches are a good size and all the facilities are centrally located.
There was no road and minimal air noise ( I think it is close to he Luton flight path)
The Pretty village of Ashwell is very close by. There were a couple of pubs which were probably within 5 to 10 minutes walk. Both looked nice, but weren't tested by us. I also noticed an Indian restaurant which I think was a takeaway also within easy walking distance
My husband runs with our dog and easily found nice footpaths which would have made a nice circular walk.
We were visiting with children and although there is no play area, within a 5 minute walk is a great play area with climbing frame, swings and more and also a (very) small bmx / scateboard section.
Near the entrance to the site we found veg & eggs with an honesty box.
I would recommend this site

Visited for 4 days in mid April as it is a site not too far from our home. Like all other reviews State, a quiet pleasant site near the quaint Village of Ashwell.
Only 40 pitches & all hard standings were taken so ended up on the grass opposite reception. Nice spot but due to the site having storage facilities, there can be a lot of comings & goings at certain times, that you may not even notice on the other side of the Site ? Friendly helpful wardens & facilities clean & usual club standards.
Ashwell is a nice village with lots of unusual houses many are hundreds of years old. The church dominates the area with its high steeple.
Had a nice meal in the Three Tuns. Visited the Swiss garden at the Shuttleworth collection & the National Trust place at Wimpole Hall.
We did 2 walks direct from the site. Never had time to visit Cambridge so will have to return soon.

Ashwell is a lovely village lots of old cottages - some very un usual. Lots of nice walks in the area.
Eat at the Three Tuns very good food but very small portions for the price.
When we arrived just after 1. 00 pm we were told that there was only grass pitches left, these are outside the site - It felt like a over flow field. The site behind the barrier was very nice and clean and well set out.
We booked for 3 nights but left after 2. When we told the wardens we were leaving early all she was interested in was that we return the barrier key, when I said we don't have one cos we on the overflow field we where told should of got here earlier and caravan club work on first come for pitch allocation - not the usual nice and friendly caravan club staff.
Very disappointing and well not be returning.

Having tried before to get onto the site, and having had to cancel twice before, we finally managed a weekend away before the festive season kicks in for real. What a lovely small site, 40 pitches. We were on one of the newer pitches on a corner plot, very spacious, nice and level, and very peaceful. Nowhere is far from the toilet block which was lovely and warm! Welcome on a frosty morning as we had this Saturday. The village is a short walk away - there are footpaths to walk along so no worry about walking along country lanes to get into the village centre. Pubs: The Three Tuns, Rose & Crown and Bushell and Strike all do food. We ate in the Three Tuns, not bad but not cheap. The village has many quaint/old buildings, a very pretty church, a small museum and it is just a pleasure to walk around. It has its own bakers, deli, Indian restaurant, butchers, pharmacy and general store. A slightly old fashioned approach in the butchers with them wearing bowler hats and outside were two turkeys and a pheasant hanging in the open air. Ah, the good ole days.
We had a lovely quiet weekend and will endeavour to get booked in here again in warmer weather to enjoy the surrounding area more. Wardens are very friendly and welcoming. There isn't anything for kids on site but perhaps that keeps things a little quieter. There is a playground at the end of the High Street although you can't take dogs into the grassed area there. Lovely.

Only stayed one night on this site as was visiting family nearby. Having been born and bred in Hertfordshire I really love the little village of Ashwell and surrounding areas.
The area is perfect for country walks/cycles or a drive in the car as the scenery and wildlife is superb. Couple of local pubs in village are excellent for food with village pub atmospheres.
Site facilities were clean and no push button showers which is a bonus! Pitches were very large and well spaced except in some cases the people opposite were quite close.
Lovely and small and peaceful. That is if you are used to very low flying aircraft throughout the day and night as on flight path to Stansted!
Would not want to stay again but may if visiting family as nice and local for us!

Small quiet site with grass and hard standing pitches of a good size. No play area so not much to do for youngsters.
Short walk into Ashwell village but not many shops there, ok for a newspaper. Large Tesco stores at Baldock and Royston for more supplies.
Duxford and The Shuttleworth collection are worth a visit, you can use Tesco clubcard vouchers to exchange for days out vouchers for Duxford which will save some money.
Large showers which I never had to queue for. Second time we have visited and will go again for a quiet break!

Stayed at this site and found it to be a great little site.
Site itself is fairly small - I guess about 30 pitches, facilities were of the standard you would expect of a caravan club and absolutely spotless clean.
The local village is fairly quite, the walk into local village is about 1/2 mile - where there is a couple of pubs. First one you get to does great food and has good beers, the second one has more character and atmosphere - but had already eaten so missed trying the food
Local town has a farmers market where we got some great fruit and meat.
We will be returning - will become a regular site for us.

A lovely site on the edge of Ashwell village. Not a particularly big site but it has big hard standings able to take a large motor home and a car, and the sanitary facilities are excellent – clean and modern. No push button showers here!
The village of Ashwell is only 5 minutes walk away and the Three Tuns pub is dog friendly, even having a tin of dog biscuits behind the bar. The village boasts two more pubs, several shops and even an Indian restaurant. Unfortunately, we didn’t realise it was there until the day we left, otherwise we’d definitely have tried it.
There’s also a good dog walk into the fields which starts just at the entrance to the site.
One thing to be aware of – if you have a large outfit, make sure you approach the site from the A505, not the A1, as the village has narrow roads with lots of parked cars.

We found this site through our club site directory, at first I thought to myself why had my wife chosen it, but I must say what a little gem it is. On arrival the staff were very helpful, the hardstanding pitches are a good size, the facilities are of a good standard. The local village of Ashwell is only a 5 minute walk where there are 3 pub's, a shop, post office, butcher's and lovely baker's, but if you need a supermarket royston and baldock have one each. It's a very peaceful place not much for children to do although the village does have a playground for the younger one's, but all in all what nice little site. Only one thing really wrong, the hardstanding pitches are very hard I broke 2 mallet's. A tip bring a lump hammer you'll find it a lot easier.
