We are members of the Caravan Club, so found this site in our Site Directory! Arrived just before 8pm on a Friday night, in a bit of a panic really, as the Office closes at 8pm, and thought we may not be able to pitch up. It is a lovely and quiet site, shower block is immaculate. Walking distance is the lovely village of Ashwell, there is a lovely butchers there, where we were able to buy some nice meat for a BBQ. We were due to leave on the Sunday, and as the site was not too busy, we asked if we could stay until about 2pm, and it was not a problem at all, which was great, as it made our weekend away seem much longer. Would definintely return to this lovely camp site.

Very surprised to see how old the last review was. The site now has a very clean shower and loo block, plus private cubicles for washing. There is also a veg and washing up room and laundry room. It is a very nice little site, quiet and away from it all. Wardens friendly and helpful. We were allowed to stay until 5pm on Sunday which was really nice as it was a weekend break. The site is very popular, I could not get booked into it last year, so I assume that staying late may not be possible in the busy periods. All the hard standing pitches were in use this weekend.

August 2004 Fabulous little site (and I MEAN little) - no hot water, no showers, just toilets - very basic, but if you accept it for that, its a great place to get away from it all - lovely walks - nearest pub/food about 1 1/2 miles. You can walk into Baldock, but it's a bit of a slog, and Radwell is a lovely place to explore - lots of ducks, statues on the lake, swans and bamboo!!
Great little streams running all around the place - so be carefull of little ones. Unfortunately, you can't fish on the lake, which is a shame as it is a great location.

March 2003 This was our first CC site we went to after becoming members. The site is small and ideal for those who want to sit around and get away from it all. No good if your taking kids, but a good base to explore, especially if you want to visit Duxford. The village was quiet; I think the name "sleepy hollow" would be ideal. This campsite is ideal for those who want to escape and just chill out with things to do if you travel by car. No good for young children (Not that it is advertised as such). The wardens were really helpful and the showers are the best ones we have experienced to date!

Many times pre 2001 - May 2003 Lovely site when owned privately by Mr &Mrs. Gurney. CC now taken it over and have extended washroom facilities. Lots of hard standings for all weather campers.Wardens we found to be friendly. Ashwell is a lovely old village and very good eating out to be had. We will definitely be adding it to our most visited sites

2 and a half acres, 30 touring pitches, some hardstandings, electric hook-ups, battery, gas, Gaz, tv good, shop half mile, non-members accepted, no tents.
Ten to fifteen minutes walk to Ashwell village where there are four pubs all serving meals. The village is beautiful and historic with many 14th-15th century buildings. The site office supplies a printed sheet with a detailed tour of interests around the village.
As the ground was very wet the warden hooked our caravan up to his tractor/towing contraption and placed us onto a hardstanding. Alterations are to be made at the site when it closes down in September 2000. The approach dirt-track is uneven and needs some care and attention. There is an automatic barrier opened by security cards issued by the friendly and helpful wardens.
The only building on the site houses the office, the toilets and shower rooms and the veg prep/washing-up sink. Although extremely clean and supplied the facilities would be inadequate if the site was full. It has one shower room, two cubicle washrooms, one toilet compartment, a sink and urinals. On the women's side, two toilets, two washrooms, one shower, one hair-dryer, one hand-sink. Add to this a disabled person's toilet room. Around the outside of the building the chemical disposal point, waste-water disposal point, fresh water taps (2). Although the toilet area houses everything, no-one has to walk further than 50 yards as the facilities are centrally located.
We spoke to a disabled chap who got around on a three-wheeled scooter and he told us that he has been storing his caravan at this site for seven years and finds the site fine except for the path to the building in one direction ( which is being made into a proper loop-road in September). He also said that his wife brings two dogs and there are good exercise areas directly accessed from the site.
The site is fairly flat and sheltered with trees through the middle and high-hedges around the outside, although to contradict this we were told that winds can be troublesome. There is a large play field in one corner which has yet to be equipped.
On asking when we must leave the site were told that we could stay until midnight if we wanted to as the site was half-full. We will be delighted to return especially when the improvements have been done.
