Lovely basic camp site for families
Staff are friendly and helpful and run a well stocked site shop (huge 24hr Tesco 5 min drive away)
Toilets shower/bath are spotless but need updating (showers can be scalding or cold)
The adjoining Wishing Well pub has greatly benefited from new management, they are friendly serve good value food and a variety of entertainment.
Play area adjoining the Wishing Well pub can be noisy first thing in the morning if you pitch close by but otherwise no problem
Less than 5 min walk from campsite into seaview for a lovely walk in to Ryde through Puckpool Beach which has a licenced cafe (where there is a park with play area crazy golf, tennis courts, putting green, toilets and also has a licenced cafe) and Appley Beach which has toilets a good value licenced cafe & restaurant.
Lots of shallow pools on soft sandy beaches along the way for the kids to mess about in when the tides out and safe shallow water to swim in when the tides in.
A huge bonus to Puckpool & Appley Beach they both have free parking (access from Puckpool Hill & North Walk Ryde esplanade for Appley) if you want to take lots of equipment for a day on the beach (get there early on sunny days)
All in all a great place for a good value basic camping holiday

We originally only planned for a couple of nights in June on the site on a 4 night stay on the Isle of Wight but liked it there so much we decided to stay for the remaining nights.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the site was peaceful and in a great location to explore the area with a lovely walk to nearby Seaview.
As already mentioned in some reviews, the toilet/shower blocks were not the most modern but were of a very satisfactory standard.
The short drive to the huge Tesco made stocking up easy and the site shop supplied us with camping stove gas bottles.
The adjacent pub did a decent menu with epic portions and the rural views along with the next door nature reserve gave the site a pleasing setting.
If you are camping, the soil is a tad rocky but not unreasonable. A nice plus are the scores of rabbits that live there and occasional visit by curious ducks from the aforementioned nature reserve next door.
The site fees were very reasonable and I would be happy to go there again. And may do so this year.
It seems less busy than some other sites at that time of year which meant there was no need to pre book.

Just returned from a 10 night stay here and had a great time! what a lovely site!
We had an electric pitch at the bottom of the field away from the road, the road noise was minimal from here and we were very well sheltered from the wind. On arrival we were greeted by Ken the Manager, a very friendly and helpful bloke and allowed to pitch 2 hours early.
As stated before the shower and toilet blocks are dated but in good clean working order with plenty of hot water. The shower in the lower block has the advantage of having a hot and cold tap so you can control the temp yourself, essential when someone flushes the loo!
The shop was well stocked with basic provisions and the staff all helpful, although it is only open 7.30-10.00 am and 5.00- late evening.
It is a lovely quite site, very family friendly with a games room and TV room (although we didn't use these. It has a good playpark away from the pitches in a wooded glade. The walk to the sea is only about 5 minutes but you can walk all along the coastal path to Ryde in half an hour.
The wishing well pub was lovely and served good grub in huge portions! it has the advantage of being right at the top end of the site with its own playpark too.
We were there the weekend of the scooter rally (August bank holiday) and were initially pleased to note a 'no scooters' sign at the entrance, this seemed to be the case of most of the islands camp sites. BUT bookings were taken from scooter riders, many of them large groups. One group was rowdy on the Friday and asked to quieten down around midnight, which they did, but another group caused so much trouble they were thrown off by Ken the next morning. Ken assured us that next year no bookings would be taken for scooter groups, but if planning you holiday over this weekend you may want to double check.
On the day of our departure we left the trailer on site and went off for the day and picked it up later in the afternoon.
I rate this site highly, it is not over commercialised, its a friendly well run site and we will definitely be returning next year.

We have just come back from a week on this site and would certainly go back without a second thought. The pitches were both electric and non electric. We found the pitch sizes were more than generous, we could have easily pitched another tent on our pitch without any problem. We were met on site and shown the pitch by the owner who was extremely helpful and pleasant. We had a slight problem a couple of days in but after advising them this was sorted within 10 mins.
At the bottom of the site is a pathway at the side of the children's play area which leads to Puckpool and within 10-15 mins you are on the beach with an easy walk to either Ryde or Seaview. Tesco is around a mile away heading towards Ryde from the campsite on the road and there is a small Londis heading towards Seaview.
All in all a lovely site and hope to be there again next year.
Note to all you born again Mods trying to capture your youth the Aug bank holiday Scooter rally is not to be missed. My hubby was like a kid in a sweet shop.

An easy to find site on the main route to Seaview from the main ferry ports, although the turn in to the left may be sharp if you have a really long outfit.
The site is large and is on a gentle slope with numerous pitches offering both electric and non-electric pitches.
We were pitched right down the bottom and although the nearest facilities block was quite dated, it did the job perfectly and was always clean and tidy. I cannot comment on the other blocks as I did not use them.
There is a walk from the bottom end of the site, and I think it takes you to the coast, but not sure, I did not walk it myself.
I did not go into reception , but I understand it was friendly, efficient and stocked the essentials.
The pub onsite was great, we had a few beers in there and a delicious meal, it was a shame we only stayed one night, otherwise I would have eaten in there again. Prices were very reasonable and all food was cooked fresh, none of that microwave rubbish.
Shopping for a bigger shop can be done in the large Tesco Extra, just a couple of miles away and for a town, Ryde is not too far.
This site is in easy access of the main roads making visiting the attractions on the island a doddle.
At £4 per person, per night I would go back here again.

Having looked at last years reviews, we picked this site for a weeks stay for our family.
We arrived earlier than the stated time, the site was very quiet and the friendly staff at the reception allowed us to pitch up early, they escorted us to the pitch too which i think is always a nice touch.
The chap even give us advice on where the sun comes up and sets so to consider where we could position the van for the awning etc.
The pitches are very large and well marked out.
The pitch we were on had water and electric points.
I agree that the toilets and showers are not the most modern but they are clean and easy to use, no timing on the shower, dish washing facilities too, there is a laundrette too.
Nice walk to the beach, and a bus stop outside which is always handy when using a motor home so that you dont have to pack up all the time when wanting to go somewhere.
Didnt use the shop.
Wishing well, only had 1 drink there, agree no atmosphere, but a local iow couple that we spoke to said that meals were nice.
We were also allowed to stay later onto the site at no extra cost, which is always good.
Would use the site again, though maybe not as early on in the summer season as it was quiet.

We have just come back from a 5 day/4 night visit to Pondwell.
In terms of the site itself, I'd say there are probably better ones on the Island, particularly for tents as this one is not particularly canvas friendly! This is essentially because the pitches for the tents without electric hook ups were right by a fairly busy road which woke us up every morning and was quite noisy. It seems a bit bizarre to do things this way round, as all the caravans and capervans were allowed on the parts of the site away from the road.
Apart from that, the facilities on the site are fine - they look a little old but the showers and sinks provide free hot water and are all you need for camping. There is a small shop within the reception but we didn't use this so cannot comment on how well stocked it is. There is also a good looking adventure playground on the site.
Two of the best things about the site are the fact it's only about a 10 min drive from Fishbourne, where we got our ferry, and also it has a path leading directly from it to Seaview. This walk took only about 15 mins and Seaview is a lovely place for a stroll in the evenings.
The Wishing Well pub garden backs onto the site which shows how close it is. This pub isn't great - the food is OK but there is no atmosphere and I agree with others on here that it is certainly not a drinkers pub. Saying that, it's close and handy. If you walk up the hill from the site however (turn left as you leave the site), there is another pub which you'll reach after a 15 min walk - called the Travellers rest I believe - and this was much nicer and worth the short walk. Incidentally, opposite this pub is a Londis shop.
In terms of the surrounding area, there is plenty to do and the site is well located in terms of getting around the island. There's plenty to din Ryde (including the Waltzing Waterfalls which was we were pleasantly surprised with!). Shanklin Chine, the Needles and Sandown are all worth a trip to, and Blackgang Chine is good for kids under 10 years old.
Overall an average to good site - depending on where on the site you are pitched! We'd definitely recommend it for caravans/campervans but be wary if you're in a tent - it may be worth paying for an electric hook up pitch even if you don't use it, just to ensure you get a quieter spot.

We visited this site midweek in June, for a one night stopover, before the IOW Festival. I've used quite a few different sites on the IOW, and have my favourites from them, but hadn't tried this one, so thought we'd give it a try. The site is situated behind a nice pub called the Wishing Well, gently sloping down a hill, and is nicely sheltered. From the top of the field you can just about see the Solent in the distance which is nice.
We were given a very friendly welcome, and told we could choose to pitch whereever we liked. We wanted a hookup, so went near the bottom of the field. The cost was £4 per person, per night, with an additional £2.50 for the EHU. It was great to see UKCampsite.co.uk stickers in the reception windows too!
The warden explained that they had no association with the pub, but that it did good food, so we decided to eat there that evening. The pub has a good menu, with a wide range on the menu - priced reasonably, although not a bargain. However they run two for one deals on most nights, and our particular evening, it was on the steak. So we got two sirloin steak meals for £13.00. It's a nice pub, the food was good, and there is a large playground for the kids, overlooked by a terrace, so you can keep an eye on them.
The site itself is clean and tidy, and looks nice. The facilities were a little old, but very clean, and perfectly functional, with two showers, and a few toilets, along with hand basins. The showers were the type you can direct, with separate temperature controls, so you can get it just right for you. I didn't use the ladies so can't comment on those, but would assume they would also have the same number of showers etc as the gents. There was also a washing up area. We used one shower block near us at the bottom of the field, but there did appear to be another one near the top.
We didn't use any of the other advertised facilities, so cannot comment on those.
There is a walk directly from the bottom of the site into the village of Seaview, and the beach, but we didn't have time to try it. Apparently it is about one mile. The site is ideally situated for the beaches, and tourist attractions of the Eastern side of the Isle of Wight. There is a large Tesco a couple of miles away, on the outskirts of Ryde, which was very handy indeed.
All in all a pleasant site, and one which I could happily recommend, as long as you aren't a stickler for wanting modern shower blocks - and are happy with function over form.

Arriving on the Island before 6 am gave us lots of time to visit the sites that we had shortlisted - mainly after reading the reviews here, so thank you everyone who has contributed.
We settled on Pondwell because it felt friendly & relaxed. It was.
If there were any way for the people at Pondwell to be more helpful, I can't imagine what it could be.
Nobody has mentioned the rabbits. There are hundreds.
Whilst we were there the ducks & geese seemed to stay on a nearby holiday chalet site, so their droppings weren't a problem.
The Wishing Well pub adjoining the site isn't a drinkers pub, but does do attractive food at reasonable prices - a cut above 'chips with everything' pub food.
Incidently, the best meal we had was in the Crafty Fox in Brading - worth trying if you're passing that way.
The only negative thing I can relate is that our pitch had about 3 inches of soil over a solid sheet of rock. I did pine for my SDS+ drill which I'd somehow failed to pack.
