We booked this last minute as the usual site we go to was fully booked. Dolau Afon was a very pleasant surprise. Although far away from local conveniences, if you are willing to travel out to Aberystwyth to stock up then it is only a 20 minute drive.
There is a small fridge on site to store fresh milk. The site is well kept, pretty and clean. There is just about enough in the immediate vicinity to keep you occupied for a short stay if you love walking, cycling or even paddling.
There is Devil's Bridge waterfalls (15 minute drive) which is a must see. Also Elan Valley dams (45 minute drive) are lovely too. I would go again and take the bikes next time. Jill is lovely, very helpful and owns two lovely dogs.
Apart from being too far away from local conveniences, having only 1 shower is a slight negative. We went during covid restrictions so not too many on site but I imagine when full that would be an annoyance.

A lovely site. It has well thought out
Shower and toilets and electrical outlets for those of you who need it.
Jill made sure they were clean through out the day and that customers adhered to COVID rules. Thank you

Beautiful setting, high above the river so no worries from it bursting it's banks.
Friendly owners and sparkling facilities.
The River is lovely to paddle in for all and in deeper pools good swimming, and not too cold

Fab small campsite. Good welcome and very well kept.
Toilet block is new and the shower/wet room was the best shower of any campsite for me to date.
Great area if you like country walks. Will return again.

A lovely peaceful site, adjacent to a picturesque river. Local walks a plenty. Newly built shower and toilet block which is first class. Wheelchair access should be possible.
The owners are very nice but not intrusive. 4 ehu units and currently two hard standings. A dog friendly site with a decent fence all round. The owners are striving hard to be as eco friendly as possible with various bins for different kinds of waste. I wish my lawn was a nice as theirs!
It would suit older folk away from undesirables. Its very quiet and dark at night, bring a torch !. Off the beaten track and fantastic for a quiet retreat away from the hustle n bustle.
I've Booked in for next year already! I’ve given the child section top marks because the site is fenced in, no vehicular traffic, and no obvious hazards I could detect for normal child safety. There are no swings and rides though.
Overall a very pleasant site which you will want to return to. No service pitches currently but waste and fresh water thirty feet away so no problems. Digital tv works fine. July 2020

The facilities here are very clean but insufficient. There is a new block with two toilets, one of which is located within the only shower available and both shower and toilets are unisex which I personally am not a fan of. This was probably sufficient when this was a CS with only five vans but is now an independent site for 20 caravans and 5 tents (at least 50 people if no families). There is also only one washing up sink. There is a small fire pit area but there is a pitch right next to it.
The area is very pretty but most of the walks are accessed by a very narrow road with no verge for safe walking. On the plus side you can access the river direct from the campsite if you are able.
The nearest shop is 5 miles by car and the nearest town is a 20 minute drive, a little longer to get to the seafront.
There is no TV reception, mobile phone signal or WIFI
The price for a hard standing pitch with electric is £28 per night which I found excessive, bearing in mind the lack of facilities.

This is a beautiful campsite, surrounded by trees and on the bank of the river. It was so peaceful and relaxing.
The river is easy to access and swim in. It is such a oasis of loveliness, I hope to return.

We spent a delightful long weekend here over the May bank holiday. The site is a well hidden gem. The owners were friendly and helpful, but in no way intrusive. The site is a beautifully kept flat field surrounded by trees and next to the river Ystwyth.
We were the only people on site the first night, and joined by one more camper van for two of the nights. The site has room for up to five caravans and 10 tents, so with just us there most of the time, it was really quiet and peaceful.
The on-site toilet is a clean and well kept compost toilet. This was fine for us over the weekend as we also have on board washing facilities. If the site was full of tents, it may be more of an issue.
There is lots of walking straight from the site. We had a lovely walk up the valley to a lovely little cafe in Pontrhydygroes; y Cwtsh which served delicious and reasonably priced food at lunchtime.
The river is easily accessed through a small gate in the field and is a lovely peaceful place to sit and contemplate.
The site is next to a small B road, but there is little noise from this as it’s not very busy!
We would definitely recommend it, and return ourselves.
