Hadn't read the reviews before coming. Planned to stay several nights, but stayed only one as we really didn't like the site. In this, we differ from all the reviews so I have tried to think why. Agree the views are cracking. Yes, the manager was pleasant, when we paid £17 for grass pitch and EHU next morning. The office had closed before we arrived, all the many seasonal caravans were empty bar one at the other end of the site, the racecourse buildings were in darkness; so it felt as if the site was closed, and it was a bit spooky (like being in an empty house).
The main problem was that the site needs TLC - we thought the toilet block was run down, unkempt and untidy outside; inside it was cold and unwelcoming, and the surfaces and floors needed a deep clean. Hexham is lovely, but when we return we will try one of the other sites in the area, leaving our pitch here for others to enjoy.

Booked pitch for 2 large tunnel tents and a 2 berth caravan for a week. Arrived to a great welcome from John and we were all shown where to pitch our tents and caravan.
The site is lovely, great views, right by the racecourse with reduced admission on race days. Large clean toilet/shower block and a a small play area for kids with a handy picnic bench for the parents to sit close by.
Unfortunately the tents only managed to stay one night due to the very strong gusts of wind which snapped/ripped our Premium Outwell tents. We weren't the only ones, some didn't even manage to pitch them before poles snapping or ripping.
Our kids were so disappointed but managed to get other holiday accommodation nearby for a couple of nights. John was very understanding and refunded money.
Wouldn't hesitate to revisit but not in windy weather !

Weve stayed here a couple of times both in tent and caravan.
The site is located about a mile outside of Hexham and the warden, John, was very helpful and obliging. Following a change of plans, we wanted to book the night before our planned arrival which was fully booked, but John kept our details and phoned as soon as he had a cancellation. It's a relaxed site, we asked to leave later than the 12pm usual departure time and this was no problem.
The site is right next to the racecourse, and reduced admission is given to campers. All pitches are level with plenty of water points and bins.
The only downside to this site is the toilet block - it's in desperate need of refurbishment. Having said that it was clean, there was plenty hot water and I never had to queue. There is a small laundry and washing up area.
We'll continue to visit as it's a lovely way to have a day at the races and John is fabulous!

campsite was easy to find, although owner was not on site and we had to wait 30 mins for him to arrive,
the pitch we were given turned out to be the best in the tent field as we had winds of up to 30 miles an hour and the tall hedge was a godsend, luckily our tent stood up although 2 others weren't so lucky, I can imagine this is quite a windy site most of the time as it is on a hill.
The toilet block was always clean with plenty of hot water and toilet roll and we never had to wait to get in there.
The games room was enjoyed by members of my family and campers watched the football on the tv provided.
Hexham was lovely only 2 miles away with supermarkets. I would return to this site again unless the forecast was windy!

Chose this site because we wanted somewhere quiet and peaceful with nice views. This is exactly what we got! Bonus for us was the cheap price of just £17 for 2 adults and 1 child per night, dog went free. Only downside was the 'dated' toilet/shower block. Yes they were clean but for some reason the floor in the ladies block was constantly wet which was a bit off putting. The showers though were very roomy, with uninterrupted hot water and free of charge. The hedged field set aside for tents was large enough but a bit bumpy in places. We would definitely go back again because the positives far out way the negatives at this site.

We stayed for 3 nights in a hired camper van. Arrived late on the first night and just grabbed the first bit of field we saw, and the following morning when we went to pay the site owner knocked off £3 as we'd not used the electric hook-up! Only £15/night.
The site has everything you need, lots of lovely hot water for showers. Extremely peaceful too. The games room has table football, pool, table tennis and air hockey, with videos and a TV for the kids. The views across the hills are fantastic, and there were lots of birds, especially wagtails.
It's around 40min walk downhill into Hexham, which is a lovely town with loads of good charity shops if you like a rummage! Bunter's tea shop near the old gaol is really good.
There are some excellent little shops down the backstreets too, and the park is a lovely place to sit and relax. We took other campers' advice and got a taxi back to the site (£4.60) as it is quite a steep hill! Highly recommended place to visit.

Stayed for 1 night and found it to be clean and well kept. Lovely views and plenty of space for the kids to run about which is a good thing because there were lots of them!.Including ours!
It got nice and quiet by 10pm so there was no problem at all.
The site is handy for Hexham and Hadrians wall.
Will definitely go back again.
A good place to eat/drink was the Wetherspoons in the middle of Hexham. 4 meals and 4 drinks and toys for the kids. All for less than 20 quid

The site is owned by the Racecourse but managed by John Litster, he is a very friendly and obliging man. He looks after all of the site keeping it clean and tidy.
Toilets/shower block are kept clean and there are
Plenty of rubbish bins provided.
The site is high up on a ridge with excellent views, rather exposed if the weather took a turn for the worse.
Very nice friendly place with plenty of space between the pitches. £15 per night a snip.

Picked this site as it fell close to the Hadrians Cycleway.
It was a bit of a climb to get to it on the bikes, but was easy to find and well signposted.
The facilities in Hexham are great, with a variety of places to eat along with supermarkets for any supplies needed.
The site was very busy and as we arrived a bit late there was no one to direct us, so we found a spot and pitched up.
The shower block and toilets were dated, but did the job.
I think we were unlucky with the pitch we chose as the large group next to us were noisy throughout the night.
The views over the racecourse and across the valley were spectacular.

We had just bought our tourer and weren't sure were to go first time and we ended up at hexam racecourse caravan site and ended up there every other weekend.
It is lovely and relaxing, the owner is a lovely man, he let us leave the caravan up there and pay for when we used it.
The kids loved the showers you couldn't get them out
