Seafront at South Shields, three minute walk to the beach, and Minchellas, THE most delicious ice-cream.
Pitches are all hardstanding, serviced. Toilets / shower exceptionally clean, thanks to the hard working staff. One problem is the waste disposal (toilet waste from the motorhome)) it's too high. , someone who doesn't own a caravan/motorhome has designed it.
Staff are brilliant and will help in any way possible, with any query.
Location is superb. A park/ field on either side of the site, perfect for dog walking, and of course there's the beach too (outside season) There's The Leas, a huge expanse of greenery running for a few mile along to the Souter Lighthouse. Also a plus, the Marsden Grotto (think pirates and smuggling) is at the bottom of the cliff, accessible by lift, or, you can walk.
A bus stops at the gate of the caravan park going into the market at South Shields. Morrisons and Asda / Poundshop/M&S/ B&M etc, also handy are B&Q and Halfords and Wickes.
Plenty of pubs on hand, and places to eat. Sea Hotel do an excellent Sunday lunch, and for a good Indian curry you can't beat the Indian Brassierie on Ocean Road. Which just happens to be next to a brilliant pub, The Pier AND along the road from an award winning fish and chip restaurant / carry out, Colmans.
There's loads of places to see (and sea) from this site, even a Roman fort ! Ask the wardens Ann or Bill for a brochure.
All in all, a brilliant site, one huge fault, in my opinion, is the fact that such a brilliant site does not have wifi (?) They have obviously spent a lot of money on this site, I'm at a loss to understand why they haven't got it ???
8/10 mark because of this. Everything else is a 10/10

1st visit to the site, testing our caravan out, we have been campers for 18 year and recently up graded to a caravan. This is the cleanest we have ever visited. Great location and great Indian food just round the corner. Very good. Very close to the beach and shops, two great pubs very close to the beach. Great area for kids, great scooter park very close, our little 7 year old really enjoyed our first caravan outing.

Stayed at this site and found a big difference to the last time we stayed. All new toilet block with two showers [free] wash basins and and wcs. With water and drainage on most pitches to share between two units all hard standing with a block paved area for parking the car, its something the area needed very badly. You have all the amenities that south shields has to offer which covers all ages.
The only negatives are that it is quite expensive at £30 per night off peak and then £35 per night in high season then on top you have extras for awnings, extra children which I think the price they charge these should be included in the price. For a new caravan site the elsan disposable point has not been thought out very well as you have to lift up a height to empty not disabled friendly. Also in the shower area there was no shelf for soap shampoo etc and it could of done with clothes hooks in the wash area, not very important some might think but after all for a park that has been done to a high standard these things could of been improved on and have to give negatives as well as positives

This was a 3 day stay as part of our touring holiday. After reading some of the reviews I was a bit dubious, however I was very pleasantly surprised.
Beautiful site, hard standing pitches, lovely shower block which was immaculate. Lovely friendly staff, who were very helpful on the knowledge of local public transport into Gateshead and Newcastle.
Well maintained public park next to the caravan park, with play areas, duck/boating pond, and mini train rides for the children.
Caravan park situated across the road to a lovely sandy beach/ bar/restraunts and pleasure rides for the children and adults alike.
Would revisit this park again and again. We were never without something to do or see. Excellent part of our holiday.

Have just read the reviews on this site and feel compelled to add a review to update this site.
I have a static van on another park in the North, but with living in South Shields and having seen the level of work that has gone on in this park, I thought that I would take a look around and see how it has changed. ---
It is unrecognisable from the site that it used to be. All the roads and hardstandings in the park have been renewed and upgraded and most importantly, the toilets, reception and wash block were torn down and rebuilt to a fantastic standard.
True, the majority of the units on site are new statics, but there is also a lot of tourer stands and the park itself looks fantastic.
The location, being opposite the beach and promenade (which has also has a lot of improvement work done)is great and if you are thinking of looking for a base in the North East, then this is definitely worth visiting.

I came hear about 15 years ago and was surprised to see that most of the site is now static caravans, The warden is very helpful he found us a large pitch for my 23 foot tourer, the showers are exactly the same as when I came before very old and delapitated, overall it looks as if this site will end up as total statics,
On the plus side its in a good location right on the beach and a short walk to town centre, we couldn't find any pubs that allow dogs in, so ended up going back to caravan, its also very expensive £28.00 per night, wont be going back again

I believe this site used to be run by the local council but has since been sold to a private operator. Almost the whole site has now been converted to static vans, each on hard standing with an adjacent paved site for a car. It was a bit like a suburban housing estate.
There are a few grass spaces for touring vans on the edge which were OK for a brief stop. The site is very close to the beach so if that is what you want it would fine. The toilet block is a bit primitive and the £10 deposit for a key still in force. An overnight in March cost £18 which I thought was expensive.

This was the most expensive site we have stayed at with the least facilities. In April was £32.00 per night for a family with three children. There is no shop, playground, pub etc. Only the star facility of a portocabin as a toilet/shower block of which you have to pay £10 deposit for key for( which on departure no warden was to be found so one key and £10 less in the pocket). Oh forgot to add the added bonus of being woke up by JCB`s and workmen @ 8.00 in the morning laying foundations and digging drains for static vans.
Minus the site South Shields is a lovely place with plenty to do for the family and is recommended.

We have been to this site several times and we love it, the location is excellent with something to suit all age groups within a short distance, beach opposite, a fairground,a lovely park with a small play area (a big one for older children was under construction at the time of our visit) Plenty of family bars along the seafront, and loads of bars for the more serious drinker in the town (within walking distance) The caravan park is nice however the toilets and showers are dilapidated, the warden does his best to keep them clean but they are poor. I really enjoy going to this site and will keep going back.

Found the site very nice especially for children as there is a beach opposite campsite and a nice park and play area. Town isn't very far away- 10 min walk with all local shops and McDonalds! Found a lovely pub with great grub called 'THE MARINE' opposite marine park a short stroll from the site. Very large portions at reasonable prices. Good quality and value for money.
