We stayed a long weekend as a family of four in our tent (we have two toddlers aged 3 and 2).
The wardens are very helpful and friendly and on arrival we were delighted to learn that there was a bath that we could use for the children which was fantastic to bathe the children after hours playing on the beach - plenty of hot water and really good pressure to the showers too!
The site is peaceful with good views over the bay from most of the site. There was no noise from the nearby road at night.
Our Only slight disappointment was no views from camping area over bay and no pitch campfires.
All the facilities are kept nice and clean and the site is very tidy and in a beautiful location and we will be going again.

This is my second visit to Seaward, it has changed slightly and just enough to make me think I wont be back especially at these prices. I paid more for my westie than I did for the children and they wouldn't let my westie use the pool. The showers are still great if a little dated, the camping field traffic can now pass through the tourer section making it a busy with cars. The bins were not emptied for 3 days over the weekend and the dog walk was overgrown. The snug is also shut and this seams to allow parties outside tourers to go on latter than usual. The site rules have relaxed too much for my liking. Great surrounding area for exploring with a car.

I was very disappointed at the site considering what a load of good reviews I had read about the place
The wardens have left, the site is looking untidy, long grass, dead leaves all over. I know it is the start of the season, the views of Ross isle are great if nothing else.
We found the seasonals and static owners on these sites give you the best info about the place.
It has no waste water area for Motorhomes which is also a let down. I hope they tidy it up or I wont be back.

I have visited this site three times in the past two years.I found it by accident, but what a find! Paul & Jan who manage the site are lovely people very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the area.
The first time I stayed in May 2009 I was the only camper on the tent field, and being a lone female camper, Paul kindly gave me his mobile Number, should I have any problems day or night. That's service for you!.
The site is excellent, clean, neat and tidy but very relaxed and friendly. Even when the camping field is full it feels spacious. The site rules as strictly adhered to, with no ball games on tent or caravan field, but there is amply playing area separate from this. Shower and toilet block are kept spotless, and the small shop as basic things like bread, milk, eggs etc.
The no loud noise after 10.30 p.M. Means you can get a good nights sleep, lulled by the sound of the sea across the road. The views from the site are wonderful, and there are lots of small sandy bays along the estuary.
There is plenty to do in the area from the Wild Life Park, Museums,Art Galleries to visits to the Galloway Ice cream centre and the chocolate factory. Kirkcudbright is a lovely little Scottish town, and for a real feel of Scotland, the Scottish nights held on a Thursday evening in the town Square during the Summer, are brilliant. Pipe Bands, Dancing and a special event for the children, make this a night to remember, and its free!
So I will be visiting again and again, its a great site.

Our second visit to this site and we weren't disappointed. Well run and friendly, with good facilities. Tent area quite small and friendly, which was great for our kids who are too small to go to play area on their own. Play area is great. Games room good. Little pub and family room is open at weekends and provided us with a couple of hours in the evening sitting indoors, relaxing while kids drew and talked to anyone who'd listen. Lovely friendly staff, great wee shop. Very friendly site and would recommend it to everyone. One tent near us complained that they had been made to quieten down after 11pm, but to be honest we were flat out by then after all the fresh air and so were glad that wasn't a noisy site!

Seaward is part of a group of 4 sites under Gillespie in the Dumfries & Galloway area. It is predominantly a caravan park so tents are in a separate field, with separate vehicle access. As a result, tents are a little way from the showers and other facilities but there is one loo and sink in the tent field - handy for those 5am visits!
I think the field would be max 18 tents so its not busy but its not a big field either and local fire regs have decided that cars must park in front of tents not beside or elsewhere. This means you either pitch facing away from everyone and looking at the fence or you have your car as a view.
They are pretty strict on rules; no toys (incl beachballs) in the outdoor pool, no balls games in the tent field (there is a ball area but if your children are not old enough to go there alone, then its a trip away from your tent).
Showers are free and the best water pressure I think I've ever seen in a campsite. The unisex and family showers / bathrooms at the front are especially useful. Good washing up area - always hot water.
There is a good indoor games room with TV and an excellent information point for all possible local attractions. The kids play ground is good too, but again away from the tent area. The outdoor pool is a real plus but, when we were there, it seemed to have been open all day in the rain and then closed (because too cold) when the sun appeared late afternoon. Maybe check with the owner when it is open to avoid child disappointment!
The shop is too full of children's toys and less of the provisions you might want, but a local bakery delivers rolls in the morning which are ace and you can pre-order your paper. It's only open for an hour on a morning and an hour early evening though. There is a Co-op in Kirkcudbright.
The views are nice from parts of the campsite. The beaches all around this area are pebbles / mud flats but the views are good. Loads of wildlife to see, including a resident grouse(?) in the site.
Overall, nice part of Scotland which we used as the start of a tour. The roads are good and the travel time is obviously a lot less than to other parts of Scotland.

I read all the reviews before visiting, and yes, I agree with the cleanliness and the layout of the site but nobody appears to mention the busy main road - you can't walk anywhere from the site.
Yes, there's a 'beach path', but it still leads you down to the main road which you have to cross and as we had a dog, we couldn't. We were disappointed as we had hoped to be able to walk into Kirkcudbright - no joy there.
Having said that, if you have a car and don't mind driving everywhere, the site is probably great.

Very lovely site - very clean, small shop will be back again!
The toilet facilities were very good indeed, plenty of hot water and clean.
Not too much to do for our 11 year old, but he wasn't too bothered as he played football I nthe area provided and was happy with that, I think for older children there wouldn't be much for them.
Lovely surroundings with plenty to go and see.
Special dog walking path and close to the sea.
We were late off the site due to caravan problems, this was not a problem for the site and we were able to fix the problem and leave.

Very scenic campsite in a peaceful, unspoilt part of Scotland. The local area is lovely and there is plenty to do for a family, we went to Threave Castle, Cream O'Galloway and had a day in the Galloway Forest which were all great for our 8 and 10 year old children. There are also plenty of quiet beaches, including Dhoon Bay which is across the road.
The campsite was surprisingly quiet, only ever 5 or 6 tents on the field during the week we were there and everyone seemed to be tucked up in bed early so no night time noise. The facilities are fine, although there is only one toilet on the tent field and it is a rather old portaloo. We didn't mind using it but its a bit of a trek to the main facilities if you are fussy!
The swimming pool and children's play area are great, with a couple of football goals provided. Ball games are not allowed on the tent field and if you have a tent you cant pitch near the play area. I think this might be a pain if you had younger children who needed to be supervised.
Reception and the small shop are only open at very limited times which is probably my only grumble. Would definitely go back.

Seaward campsite is situated overlooking a bay. It is two miles from the town of Kirkcudbright and has a good out door swimming pool and a play park for the children. It has a TV and games room, and a bar which is open at the week ends. The park is close to a beach and convenient for sea fishing. There are many and varied local attractions many suitable for families.
The park has a quiet relaxed family atmosphere.
The touring caravan’s have there own area as well as a good separate tent field.
The toilet block, showers and washing up areas are excellent and always clean and tidy.
The host Paul and Jan are friendly and welcoming. We have been many times and always enjoy returning.
