The site was let down by facilities in that they need updating, whilst clean, they were somewhat well worn!
Good dog friendly site, with sheltered individual pitches.
Close to main road so some noise - one thing that put us off was there was a 'stag' do when we were there - whilst these are put in a separate field - they are still on site.
Easy access not too far out of Newquay - seemed to drain well as we had very heavy rain.

Management response: As a graded "four star" park, our facilities are routinely repainted yearly and refurbished every two years. The main block was refurbished in April 2012 and the smaller seasonal block is being upgraded this winter. Both are cleaned to the highest standard and inspected daily.
We know from the general customer feedback we get, that the standard of cleanliness is much appreciated.
Some wear and tear is natural in areas of high volume use and that is why we have a set programme of upgrade. It is good, common practice.
We do not encourage single sex stag groups and have no record of one on the park in August. |

We opted for a static caravan as at this time of year the weather can be 'changeable'. Arrived mid afternoon and were greeted very warmly by the warden. Shown to the caravan and given a quick run down on its facilities and also given an itinerary of everything in it.
There were just me and my husband and our dog. The van itself was lovely and clean, (no doggy smells) gas fire in the living area which was included in the initial cost so too was all the electric so no coins needed, and no extra overheads.
There was also an electric convector heater for that extra boost. Little lcd tv with built in dvd and freeview. The kitchen had a gas cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, all the crockery and cutlery, pots and pans you required and the only criticism would be that they were a little cheap, but again for a week or two was adequate.
We did buy a couple of larger mugs for that morning cuppa! little table and seats in the kitchen/diner area. One double b/room and two with two single beds each.
They all come with duvets and pillows and covers, you need your own undersheets and towels. Main bedroom quite small so we used the second room as a dressing room/storage room. There are wardrobes.
The loo is separate to the shower and both are small but again, fine for a short stay. Loo paper supplied and also basic cleaning stuff, along with 2 tea towels and dish cloths. While we were there the housekeeper popped in to return a travel cot to the van which can be booked. Also there are high chairs to book too.
The park itself is a nature conservation site so all around there are rabbits - my poor dog was beside himself watching them out of the window and not allowed to chase them. Because of this it is not a manicured site, looks very natural.
Dog walk on site was nice. Fishing pools too. Loos and showers for campers looked quite basic but clean. The cafe/bar was shut during the week due to off season.
Shop was shut too but they open up if you want anything and the milk was cheaper than the co-op! just a 10 min drive into centre of newquay.
Pub and premier inn restaurant all within walking distance. Huge morrisons 5 minute drive away. All in all, it was a lovely place to stay, friendly, good value and would definitely do it again.

Site well situated just far enough out of Newquay to deter the more boisterous surfing element, but within easy reach by bus or own transport.
There are also direct bus services to Truro and St Austell and the Eden Project. Although the site is close to Quintrell Downs train station, forget the train as a means of getting around as the service is sporadic.
The site itself is spacious with a mixture of grass pitches and hard standing. The amenities are tired-looking and in need of modernisation, although clean.
Bar and club-house facilities are resticted out of season i. E. After 4th September!
Staff friendly and helpful

Very friendly relaxed owners, lovely site with lots of hedges and trees for privacy. Two lots of shower blocks, the one near the camping field is the newest but not as clean as the older one up near the caravans which is spotless but a bit cobwebby as previously stated.
Didn't use laundry facilities but there was an iron and ironing board up and ready for use. Site a real mixture of owner occupiers in mobile homes, caravans and a mixture of tents in size, (groups of small tents generally in the camping field).
Didn't appear to be any issues re size of our tent, ours is a sprayway valley 8 and quite large, we have had a few comments re size at some CC Club sites in the past.
Some families appeared to have dining tents and separate tents for dining/other which I have not seen before. Did eat in on site bar once and food was not that expensive and was good.
We left just as peak season was getting into full swing - on our last day we were woken up at about 7a.m to the chinking of tent poles! This was a mixture of people setting up and taking down tents. I think this really confirms the relaxedness of the owners.
The owners live on site and I think they do keep a low profile eye on things. We were without a car for one day, we had booked to go to fifteen restaurant - one of the owners even offered to take us there!
We were a family of 2 adults and 2 16 years olds plus a dog, the site not the cheapest at £42. 50 per day. We looked at other sites from the distance as we drove by then and were very happy with our choice. Everyone had a great holiday and will return.

This is a great site.
Large layout with a surprisingly rural feel considering it's on the doorstep of a large over-populated tacky holiday resort.
The camping area was set away from the touring vans and only a short distance from the superb toilet & shower block.
The on site bar was fairly well priced serving good food, and even a few hand pulled ales. Warden was very welcoming and friendly considering I was touring the area and only required one night's stay.
Good large shop as well although I never got chance to use it.
Would return if I ever felt the need to visit Newquay again!

Our 4th year doing the South West Coast Path, choosing a base from which to do about 5 days' walking - 5 men in their 50's & 60's. A challenge to find one near Newquay that would not be either 'family only' or riddled with surfers rolling back in at 2 a.M.
This one fitted the bill really well. Plenty of space, a good mix of clientele and enough life without having to put earplugs into get to sleep.
It has a good bar and restaurant, a very well-stocked shop and the pitches were superb. Lots of mature hedges to shelter us from the elements.
And not to forget an excellent host.
2 pubs nearby - the Two Clomes had recently re-opened and we certainly preferred it to the Quintrell Inn - really good bar staff, excellent food (not particuarly cheap) and good beer. Otherwise Quintrell Downs is very unremarkable but makes a very good base - the bus service is good but having a car is better.
The camping field, more aimed at backpackers, was a bit close to the road, but our pitches were well set back. Even in late July, with the surf season in full swing, there was enough room for everyone.
Toilets & showers excellent.

Stayed here with 2 other families, good location for getting out and about.Very pleasing layout, plenty of greenery, wildlife etc.!Good dog run on far side of site. Owners/staff v friendly, shop was adequate for our needs. Toilet block is in need of modernisation but was kept clean and plenty of hot water, only queued for a shower once in 2 weeks.
Perhaps the games room(s) could be updated, improved, keep the teenagers happy! We did eat on site at The Stables, enjoyed the food and though it good value for money. Also ate at Treffry Tavern short walk down the road, also good value.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The toilets were clean, but in need of modernisation and seemed to be full of spiders all the time! (At least in the Ladies). The showers could get very hot, which wasn't a problem for us, but may be an issue for families with small children.
We liked the layout of the pitches, with many in landscaped areas.
The camp was close to Newquay and Perronporth.
The bar was good, with nice food although some of the portion sizes were sometimes small. The Beast of Bodmin curry was defintitely not hot as advertised! Although it was nice, and our taste is for very hot curry. The bar staff were extremely friendly.
The park is very child friendly, with a small but adequate play area.
The lake is small, but we enjoyed a look round, trying to see some fish. Rabbits were in abundance at all times of day, which was lovely - although rabbit poo tended to be on our shoes all the time!
All in all I would recommend this park

We have just returned after a four day stay at this campsite.
We are a family of four and stayed on the family side of the site. It was very well laid out with well tended bushes, trees and borders.
The owners are on-site and were there to greet us and direct us to our pitch which was grassed and with an electric hookup. We have a large tent but had plenty of room and were able to park the car next to us. The site was pretty quiet by about 10pm.
We did not use the restaurant or bar facilities as we were out most of the time but spoke to others on the site who said they were good and value for money.
The toilet and shower facilities were clean and well maintained as were the dishwashing and laundry facilities. There was a children's playground with wooden swings and climbing frames. The shop does have very limited opening times however we were told to ring the bell if we needed anything urgently.
Overall it is a very well looked after site. Great value for money. We visit this part of the country regularly and will definitely use this site again.

Had a great time camping here would definitely recommend it. There is plenty of space to pitch your tent or caravan, the site is always clean, the on site shop is ok for all those things that you forgot.
There is a good bar/ restaurant on site which is only open during the busy periods.
There are plenty of rabbits running around the site which kept the kids and the dog entertained
There is a lovely play park for the kids on the site.
The staff were really helpful.
Looking forward to my next visit
