I honestly cannot believe what I have just read below, there are clearly people who feel that they only need to comment on things if they wish to be negative. We stay at this holiday park year after year and are always amazed by the amount of Improvements made each visit.

The toilets are the cleanest I have ever seen on a Holiday Park and the showers always warm, not sure what the previous reviewer is on about!. The New lounge Bar and bowling lanes are superb an excellent addition to an already fantastic site.

Even with the bad weather we have just experienced the site was in lovely condition. The staff are very friendly, they know the majority of the customers by first name and this is why they come back every year.

The location of the site is fantastic, near Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth on the beautiful North Cornish coast. Anyone reading these reviews should visit and make their own mind up rather than listen to those who would be negative regardless of how good their stay was!

I can't believe 2 years after the last review of this site on here that I am going to be grumbling about the same things.

The washing blocks were awful. As a camper, after the obvious need for a flat pitch, my priority is clean washing facilities and a warm shower. If you have the same ideals then probably try somewhere else.

The shower blocks were beyond dirty, they were grubby. If you didn't wear your flip flops in the shower then your feet would be dirtier when you finish. One of the days there was no hot water, but no acknowledgement of this by the management team.

I did see a cleaner once in my four day stay 'clean' the wash-hand basins. Approx 20 bowls, one unrinsed cloth and a spray can of fabreeze. Not sure what the plan was with that. She didn't even attempt to pick up the clearly used piece of toilet paper which was still there 4 hours later.

The staff and management team were very obliging but you can't help but think they need to tour their own facilities every now and again.

Would I stay here again? No!

We enjoyed our two week tent holiday here; met some nice campers etc. Even though the weather in early August was terrible. Here's my critique of the site and facilities - and yes we would consider going back:

Shower Block - top

The upper site mens and womens shower facilities and toilets we're pretty poor. The shower head sprinklers we're missing in all but 2-cubicles. The shower cubicles were very small too. The water temperature, while great at the sinks, in the showers was simply not warm enough.

Each shower cubicle had a pull cord light - which were all grubby, along with the cubicles themselves. The showers were operated by a push button - which seemed to last a minute then went off. The WC's were dark.

The general basin area was ok - but lacked anywhere for you to place your handtowel without getting it wet. The launderette and washing up room were located in the same block - the washing up area need to be bigger.

The washer and separate dryer we're good value for money. Overall the owners need to think about having this block refitted and modernised.

Shower Block - lower

The lower shower blocks was marginally better than the upper.

Food Available

A choice of burger, nuggets, fish or scampi (?) with chips. Good prices but very limited. Would be good to see a selection of pizzas on there too.

Disco Room

Small with a couple of 4 seater tables and a cushioned bench seating area around the main (small) dance floor. The DJ who we saw twice played mostly up-to-date dance tracks - which meant that you could always get a seat. Could have done with mixing it up with some 60's 70's etc.

Lounge & Entertainment

Obviously new - nice seating etc. Lacked any atmosphere even thought it was main season. Went along on the entertainment nights and saw some good singers.

Staff

Bar staff were friendly. Jamie and the rest of the mgt were friendly.

Tennis Courts

Unusable. Large sections of grass was bear in places and the ground was uneven.

Football field

Not really used - except for the one time when the local football team turned up to train.

Crazy Golf

Closed down and overgrown. A bit of a DIY job methinks. This area was surrounded by a painted wall and a high wire fence.

Playground

Ok but very basic; hidden away between the defunct crazy golf area and a unsightly caravan storage area - beyond which (30m) was the dump, strewn with bits of concrete and skips; facing the large football field.

Shop

Very small - but well stocked with essentials. Reasonably priced. The shop's opening hours we're also restricted to a couple of hours in the morning and the same on the afternoon. The gift shop never seemed to have opened.

Reception

Clean and small with plenty of leaflets.

Pitches

Too close together for our liking. But flat and seemed well drained. And yes, you do get used to being directly under Newquay airports direct flight path.

Dog Walking Area

Limited to a run around crazy gold and play area.

Mawgan Port Beach

Brilliant - lovely sand and surf. Though how your meant to swim with almost eveyone else on body boards crashing into you. My kids aren't that keen on Body Boards, but prefer to be in the surf swimming and jumping around - near impossible with the amount of bodyboarders. Would be good to have had a third swimmers only area.

Security

None - though the mgt live on site and their telephone no's are provided. However there was no T-Mobile signal available. A couple of nights they could have done with someone patrolling the area, as some of the campers had had too much to drink and made a racket until the early hours.

Sports Bar & Bowling

OK for those that enjoy bowling (we don't). The amusement arcade was small with limited games machine and 3 pool tables. Full of kids as you'd expect - including our own.

Swimming Pool

Outside heated with a small 3m sq padding pool and an unheated jacuzzi.

Lovely site, very quiet when we visited as just before closing down for the season. Flat pitches, bar, pool, shop, pleasant owners.

The road was a little noisy but we hardly noticed the airport traffic!

Dogs liked it too, rabbits in the area for them to walk in,dog cleanup bags available in various places, well done! Only concern was dogs loose on dogwalk area and as ours only run when totally alone due to being huge it was a little hairy on a couple of occasions when loose dogs ran up to ours, I think that other people should respect the fact that not all other owners necessarily like being bombarded with others animals. That said it is not a problem of the site owners but maybe it would be better if DOGS ON LEADS was made the norm, as the dogwalk is not fenced.Just a minor niggle

Will return again as site is well maintained, clean facilities, friendly and not too far from Mawgan porth and its HUGE beach.

A very nice site all in all.

Fantastic family run site - nothing is too much trouble for them

Site has shop, club/bar serving food and swimming pool and 2 toilet blocks plus a newly opened beach shop this year.

Been visiting now for many years and wouldn't consider going anywhere else.

When site closes this year they are going to put in a bowling alley and alter the club house.

Great site something for all the family young and old

Having read all of the reviews on this site I hoped to gain a reasonable picture of what to expect on arrival, I would agree with most of the comments, but I also have my own opinion of the site.

Prior to arriving we had to change our booking due to one of the kids being very ill the day before we were due to arrive, the campsite managed to juggle people around and change our holiday by a whole week at the height of the holiday season, the owners were very helpful from the start and on arrival it continued with a big rut on our pitch being filled with sand almost as soon as we asked.

The pitch we were on was huge, we had the van, awning, kids tent, BBQ, table, chairs, dog, washing line and swing ball, plus there was still space for the car. There are comments on here that the pitches aren't large, I would say that they are all of a reasonable size however this can be misleading with many of the pitches in the lower field being on a long stretch of grass and no kind of space between them, if they were to put a fence in the middle perhaps they wouldn't looked so crammed in. The top fields seemed to have a lot more space.

There are 2 toilet blocks, one new, one old. The older one has smaller shower cubicles with little room to move however they are good hot showers, the new showers are large, spacious, hot and have plenty of places to put all your things. Both were as clean as can be expected.

The washing up area (of which I believe there was only one) had 5 sinks, and if there were more than 5 people in there it got a bit cozy. Again plenty of hot water and plugs in the sinks. No draining boards though.

The shop is small but adequate, lovely hot bread and croissants in the morning, papers and tons of sweets to keep the kids happy.

The play area was popular with the kids but I never saw anyone using the crazy-golf which flooded when it rained (this used to be the tennis court), we have a dog so used the dog walk and was pleasantly surprised to find poop-bags around the campsite for any accidents.

We only visited the club on a couple of occasions as it wasn't really our thing, it reminded us of a working mens club. The games room was full of teenagers.

The site is ideally situated with most of Cornwall being within an hours drive, the nearest beach is Mawgan Porth (dog friendly) just a few minutes drive away, parking can be a bit of a battle if the weathers good and just £3 for the day.

The site is also close the the Travellers Rest pub just round the corner, it's a nice cosy pub with lots of board games for the kids, and a good menu for when you don't want to cook.

Overall this is a nice site, we would go again but perhaps not for our main holiday in the height of summer.

Just spent a very wet and windy weekend here,

We were a group of families who had booked as a group. On arrival we were put somewhere different than expected but still together but in an L shape rather than a circle.

Went to the club house in the evening, food and drinks were not cheap £2.40 for a pint of lemonade!

Toilets and showers again in need of some TLC but clean and plenty for the time of year we were there.

In the evening we were having a BBQ and at 9.30pm we were asked to be quiet or we would be asked to leave! we were just a group of people talking! also we were told off for the children playing with a ball! No rules were given to us on arrival.

Didn't use shop.

Playground ok

We visited this site at Easter 2009, there were 4 family groups with big tents and dogs too. Upon arriving at the site we were greeted by a very cheerful and relaxed man who said to help ourselves to a pitch that suited on the top field, which suited us as we were a large group and wanted to pitch together.

The site was excellent and we were very impressed with the relaxed atmosphere, the football pitch and play area were great for all of our kids. The toilet and shower block were 1 min walk from our pitch, they were very clean, however a glass panel was missing from the door and the block was very cold. The showers were hot but had to keep pressing the button, my little boy was getting a bit cold as the showers were not big enough for both of us to get into.

The shop and clubhouse were great, it's good to have somewhere warm to go in the evening and the entertainment was great for the kids.

We would definitely recommend this site, but you do need to have a car to go to the beach as the walk takes about 1 hour, which we found out by accident. The smaller children would not and could not walk that far.

The site does have a lovely swimming pool but we did not use it as we were on the beach most of the time. All in all a great site, and would definitely go again.

An update to my last review. I've just been back for the first time this year.

The site has had roads laid throughout the site. So much easier to move around if it rains.
The clubhouse has been redecorated but still has the same friendly welcome.
There is a lovely new crazy golf course with lovely graphics on the walls.
There is a great new and safer children's outdoor play area.

Been staying at this site for the last 6 years. Lovely family atmosphere. It can be a bit windy at times but the location of this site makes up for that! The coastal walk is minutes away with brilliant coastal views.
The atmosphere in the club house is very friendly (good old Arthur). The facilities have been upgraded since first visiting the site, which now are very good. The shop prices are reasonable seeing as we are on a touring site.
When the weather is glorious like all sites in England you couldn't ask for more, although when the weather is bad you have to make do like everywhere else. Where therefore this is not the sites fault as the family that the site is run by will do everything they possible can to make your stay welcome. And once again we will be returning this year, hopefully for another great time in 2009!
