It has been a while since we visited Wales and had forgotten the almost constant drizzle. The scenery is stunning but unfortunately we saw little of it due to the horrendous weather throughout our weeks stay.
On arrival, friendly greeting, of course the pitches without trees were either taken or closed. There were at least 6 pitches closed all week. Apparently work was starting imminently on them! Still hadn't started when we left.
The site is set out on several levels and as usual we picked (although not much choice) the wrong area. We pitched in the bottom section; it was near to the dog walk, service points and not to far from the toilet block. No view, loads of trees, and the walk to the toilet block although not far was to much for my disabled husband because of the steep hill up to it. The site has excellent drainage, our awning only got flooded once
Toilet block dated, small, cleaned to the usual excellent CC standard and a small one round the back to use when main one is closed.
Dog walk, an accident waiting to happen especially in this wet weather. Uneven, slippy and no lighting! We only visited it once. It was closed on our last day, to be refurbished!
Amongst our trips out we visited Harlech beach, Festiniog power station, by accident we were trying to get to Betsy y Coed but the clouds closed in. The beach was vast and deserted. There was a café at the power station and the steam trains passed by, this was also deserted. The wardens have printed instructions for local walks. I decided to do the one to the BNFL Magnox power station, it wasn't to far but I ended up with very wet shoes and filthy dogs and guess what the place was deserted.
I am sure by now you have got the picture, we had absolutely horrible weather throughout the week. I am sure if we had visited when the sun was shining our view of the area would have been totally different, we came away not wanting to visit ever again. It was depressing, unfriendly and miserable.

We had a fantastic a 3 day break and it was superb. We had a hard standing pitch with plenty of space. Quiet and peaceful surroundings. Toilet facilities clean and showers worked fine. Bins emptied regularly and staff friendly. Port Merion and Porthmadog are within easy driving distance together with a few supermarkets. Only drawback was TV signal however we had no satellite receiver, no great issue. Overall would highly recommend and would return.
Not a big shop so stock up on the essentials. Lots to do in surrounding towns and a great railway ride in Porthmadog

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at this fab site!
The usual CC standard, the warders were really helpful and friendly and the facilities were extremely clean. The showers were hot and quite powerful.
The site was really quiet as well so we had our choice of pitches. My husband was taking part in the Ras y Moelwyn in Blaenau Ffestioniog which is about 6 or so miles away, the town has the usual little supermarket, a couple of fish and chip shops, bakers etc.
There are some lovely walks from the site, pick them up from reception for a donations for the air ambulance, worthy cause!
We had a lovely meal in the local pub, very friendly locals and excellent food and wine! I ran the walk to Llyn trawsfynydd lake following the cycle path route 8, stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
The nuclear power station is now decommissioned but it is an imposing sight, and a little bit 'ghost like', you can imagine how busy it would have been in its hey day.
We love this area of Wales, its pretty central, Portmerion, Harlech are a short drive away, unfortunately we didn't have time on this visit to get about more, so we will be returning, again and again!

This is a lovely site with usual Caravan Club facilities. Immaculate toilets and showers with an annexe when the main block is shut for cleaning.
Site follows a one -way system with Hardstandings and grass pitches on different levels. Point to remember is if you chose a hardstanding make sure that you have quality rock pegs as the ground is very hard. A lump hammer to put pegs into the ground and a claw hammer to take them out. I had neither but the very obliging wardens on this site came to my rescue. They are extremely helpful and nothing seems to be too much trouble.
Got to mention the pub just over the road, The Bryn Arms. Very friendly locals and licensee. Enjoyed the beer, but unfortunately did not use the restaurant although I did have a nose at the meals when they were coming out and they looked very nice. Dog friendly too as the restaurant is separate from the bar.
I will definitely use this site again.

Nice spot, lovely views of mountains. We walked to the waterfall, which was nice apart from a very inquisitive field of bullocks!
Had downloaded the cycle ride from the site to Llyn Trawsfynydd (reservoir) a lovely spot but the first part of the route is a bit rough, a bridlepath, and muddy in parts, other bits are loose gravel, Just about OK on Hybrid bikes. Glad we stuck with it as the lake is worth the trip. Nice cafe overlooking it had just opened and worth a stop.
The pub opposite the site (BRYN ARMS) RE-OPENED during our stay and while we heard nothing from our pitch others nearer the entrance did. It didn't seem as bad the second night.
Facilities were usual good standard with the benefit of an annex to the loo block which was available when main facility was cleaned. Also a useful drying room, which we didn't need as we had 4 days of sun, which we were told wasn't the norm. The play area looked good and had a large grass area as well as climbing frames etc.
A good site for walking, but most attractions are a car drive away.

The site is as clean and well organised as you would normally expect from a Caravan Club site. The wardens are friendly and helpful. It was the end of the season and some maintenance work to hard standings was underway, re-assuring to see how well they are constructed and compacted.
The pub opposite has closed, as has the village shop. There are no other shops or pubs in the village, not a problem for us but others may find it awkward.
The site is well placed for walking, with many walks direct from the site but an OS map and map reading skills are required to get you through the farmed land. Paths have a habit of fading out on the ground and signage is either poor or non-existent. Some bridleways shown on the OS map have been re-graded to footpaths, this is a nuisance for cyclists but not walkers.

A nice peaceful site within easy reach of some stunning scenery. The area is absolutely beautiful and the site sits comfortably within the countryside.
Usual professional CC staff and excellent clean facilities, although building works limited the choice of pitches it didn't distract from the site at all.
The pub had closed down, and there are NO local shops; so a trip into Porthmadog is always needed for essentials; but it's such a lovely drive that you won't complain.
The power station isn't the eyesore some would have you believe, and there are very few pitches that can even see it.
One piece of advice I would give is to strictly follow the CC route to get there, and don't do what we did and follow a sat-nav route; single track roads are everywhere and the best route is to get to Bala and follow the 4212 toward the site.
Not an easy site to get to, and not the best location if you want plenty of local amenities; but we enjoyed our time there and didn't want to go.

We visited this site in August and found it to be clean, well kept and with a great playground suitable for my two children aged 6 and 7. The showers block and toilets were immaculate. The wardens were friendly although we did not see a great deal of them. The information hut was as stated. Make a donation to the wardens charity and they give you a fact sheet of a great waterfall walk. We were lazy and actually drove part of the way (until you got to the water tunnel that looked like something out of LOST) - it is not recommended though!
On a negative side the site is quite isolated. As previously stated the village pub looks a bit dingy from the outside. Didn't eat there so can't comment on food but they did have special midweek offers up to 7.00pm and the dining area was pretty full. The village shop was closed, the nearest approx 3 miles away. Also not much to do when it rains.Do your research first as the local slate mines/steam train etc were very expensive. Harlech Castle was good (can buy a welsh pass which gives admittance to a number of other castles in the area). Portmerion was OK - nothing to do if it rains and a bit disappointing for children. It was cheaper after 3.00pm. Avoid the video if with young children as very boring. Portmadog was nice - everything closed at 5.30pm though! Big Tesco selling petrol. Wanted to go up Snowdonia but family ticket was approx £83. Half price before 9.00 am but you have to book in advance and it was completely full(and for the following 2 weeks) when we visited. Walking is always a cheaper option. Good free National Slate Museum as Llanberis. Would recommend as something for everyone. Greenwoods good for younger children but expect a drive of approx 1.20 hour. Some good beaches - Black Rock Sands, Cricceth - but again expect to drive.
The other main problem with this site was the steepness of some if the slopes. Children / bikes / scooters and steep slopes result in accidents and both my children came off at some point.
Other than that the kids had a great time. They made lots of friends, played out for hours (weather permitting) and have said that they would be quite happy to go back again.

The site was well maintained in keeping with Caravan Club standards. The site is easy to find and in a quiet location but limited views due to surrounding trees. Pitching in one of the cul de sacs during school holidays saw children cycling up and down during the evenings. Having said that our peace wasn't disturbed too much. Didn't try the pub opposite as it looked some what ran down. However did use the Oakley Arms a couple of miles down the road which was ok.
Good location for touring Snowdonia given its central position. Take plenty of provisions as nearest supermarket is 10 miles away in Porthmadog. This is a traffic hot spot and takes ages to fight through traffic jams. A nice place and would stay again.

Stayed 2 nights.
Lovely site, very well kept.
Helpful wardens.
Facilities C.C. Standard as you would expect.
Good base to tour from.
Went on a couple of walks (leaflet from office) really nice.
The pub opposite is not so good, more of a run down social club (have nothing against social clubs!)bit grubby.
My husband said the beer was OK though.
Village shop closed down, nothing for a few miles, so make sure you have plenty of provisions if you do not intend driving out!
Office does sell a few basics though.
Attractive site would use again if in the area.
