1st visit to a Caravan Club campsite. The welcome from the warden was very friendly. We pitched up on a grass pitch behind the wardens office which turned out to be a great spot for our two yr old to see all the comings and goings.
The toilet blocks were immaculate, however beware the toddler room can become slippy when wet
The playground mainly catered for kids of about 4 yr old upwards although it gave my toddler some practise on his climbing techniques. There was a baby swing
Power station was only noticeable when walking to the playground and was an interesting view not a hindrance.
Very good information 'shed' with leaflets and info for all activities in the area. There was a visitor book here where someone had commented that the Bryn Arms across the road was dirty. This actually dissuaded us from going initially but when we did go we were pleasantly surprised. Great food, good beer & friendly staff
Another good hostelry we found was the Rhiw Goch Inn in BronAber behind the holiday village
Would definitely use the site again when visiting N. Wales
.And yes it did rain !

The site is easy to find and a good base for exploring this part of Wales. The pitches are well set out and the facilities up to Caravan Club standards, the children's play area is very good too. The site is very isolated and the nearest shop is around 6 miles away, the reception sells essentials though. We did not visit the pub opposite the site but it didn't look too welcoming. If you visit this site I would recommend the walks (directions from the site office) to the waterfall and the dam and power station. Portmadog and the two steam railways there are both worth a visit as is the slate museum at LLanberis(free admission). The only down side is the occasional buzzing from the decommissioned power station, the site is also steep in places but on the whole I liked this site very much.

We have just visited this site for a long weekend and I have got to say we loved it. The site itself is broken up very nicely into 4 or five levels and has small horseshoe areas of 5 or 6 pitches within small wooded areas. Loads of wildlife such as rabbits and squirrels pottering around the vans. The play area was good and is on the bottom of a banking just away from the pitches so there was plenty of room for the kids to play without causing meyhem. The warden was very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for you. Toilets and showers where very clean. Walking and bike riding in the area was excellent however when we where there very wet.Fantastic views surround the whole site and the so called power station is very much out of the way and hardly noticeable, don't know what the whole fuss is about. Bad reception for the TV though would recommend a booster or satellite dish. Will definitely return next year.

Excellent site, wardens very helpful and friendly, toilet and shower block spotlessly clean and a very well organised site.
There is a good pub opposite and some good walks. We walked from the camp site up towards the Power Station (which is still there) and found the visitors information about the power station interesting.
Ideal base for Portmerion and Porthmadog.
On the whole, an excellent site, will definitely visit again.

We found this site to be well run and well located. It is in a small village with good pub opposite the site and a general store. The nearest main town is Portmadog. The facilities were spotlessly clean and plentiful. Staff were helpful and accommodating and gave useful info on local area and public transport. In response to other reviews, we did not notice a power station while we were there so it has either been demolished or is well hidden.
The site is a good base for exploring Snowdonia. Within driving distance there is excellent coastline, the excellent walking in Snowdonia and Lake Bala with a wide range of watersports.
Would certainly return.

Our first time caravanning and we were impressed both with the site and the area, the wardens were very helpful and the facilities were very clean the whole site was very well maintained. Nice little dog walk in the wooded area, and off site as well. Visited various places and can say we were very impressed with the locals who were very helpful when we got lost and had to turn the outfit around, talk about baptism by fire, however we will be going back to Wales.

Lovely quiet site with plenty of wildlife. There are walks to be enjoyed from the door and the Bryn Arms pub across the road to relax in of an evening serving good food and real ale. The power station is barely noticeable being well screened by bushes and trees. Wardens were all very friendly and the toilets couldn't have been cleaner. We can't wait to go again. Our one disappointment was finding the Grapes pub in Maentwrog closed for refurbishment - it is apparently expected to be open again in July.

Before visiting this site I admit I found the proximity of the power station off-putting but actually it was fine. It is decommissioned and though you can glimpse it over the trees it really has very little impact on the site. Look the other way and the views of Snowdonia are superb. Consult the ordnance survey map and you will see Cycle route 8 nearby which offers good off road cycling and walking. We found it a quiet site and nicely landscaped though we were there mid-week - probably very different at weekends and school hols. I was surprised at how green and wooded the immediate area is - it seems sheltered and not at all bleak. An attractive place and facilities perfectly OK if not as new as some CC sites.

As mentioned in a previous post you can see the old power station from some areas of the site, but this was not a big issue for me especially as most of the site is covered with trees. (Pick your pitch carefully if you intend to set up a sky dish) Our pitch was huge as were several around us but I did notice that some were very small, causing users to put the car across the front of the outfit or partially on the grass and in trees/bushes. The toilets look like they have been recently tidied up and re tiled, the wash cubicles are a little snug for a CC site, but hey how long do you want to spend in there? The play area is good and down a grass bank away from the caravans, but be careful selecting a pitch that is to close to the park by the access openings in the hedge as you car or caravan may have many kids riding bike past! The nearby pub looks very dated and a bit tatty from the outside, but don't let this put you off. Inside the pub is fine and the food is very good.

Have stayed at a few Caravan Club sites, and this has to be the biggest let down so far. The power station is clearly visible for large sections of the site, spoiling an otherwise stunning location. The grass pitches are cramped and do not drain that easily.
The ammenity block is looking a bit tired and the showers barely worked. The pressure being that low that they are a very distant cousin of the power shower. On the day we left the rubbish compounds were full to over flowing, but worst of all has to be the grumpy wardens.
