We stayed at Bridge house twice in July. I would think the weather had something to do with our impressions of the site. It is a basic site (all around a large field) - personally we like hedges, etc. But didn't find this too much of a problem.

I would say it is more geared up for tents and children. However, once dusk falls, it is very quiet. I say quiet, the guests are but the traffic isn't. I would rate this site higher when they build a by-pass around Lechlade. We only could tolerate the constant sound of traffic and motorbikes was because the weather was so good and we were out all day. We chose the site because it has direct access to the Thames footpath and you can walk into Lechlade.

A criticism is there are only two showers in both the gents and the ladies and my partner tried one evening on three occasions to get a shower (this was when the site was only 50% occupied). Be prepared at the height of the season to use your own shower.

Overall, we chose the site because of the beautiful area and the Thames. There are some lovely villages locally and Kelmscott village is fab. We returned purely for it's location.

There is a CL in Lechlade but we went to look at it and it is through a farm with nowhere to walk to.

There is a definite need for a quiet site in this wonderful location - hoping to win the lottery to buy one there!

Owners - gee up the council for the by-pass - there were advisory signs to stop hgv's going over the bridge into Lechlade, they should make them compulsory and shoot the motorcylist who goes past the site at full throttle at 6. 00am in the mornings!

Spent 1 night here as an overnight stopover while walking the Thames footpath. Perfect for our needs. 3 adults, 2 children and 2 infants.

Key fob a great idea. Have been to many campsites using a key for the facilities block, but the fob was easier for the children to use. No problem only having 1 fob - we coordinate well! Facilities kept clean and the showers were free although the cubicles were a little on the small side. The staff were welcoming and helpful.

Loved the open field space and the site wasn't busy. Simple pricing - much cheaper than some sites. Want to stay again so we can explore the area rather than just pass through!

Thank you!

Staff were friendly and efficient, the toilet and shower block were clean at all times and everything well thought out. Simple pricing and fob system worked well. Field was well kept, flat and in good order.

Picturesque surroundings to the site, a couple of minutes pleasant walk to the town where there are several nice pubs and eateries.

Would certainly recommend the site and hope to go back next year.

We visited this site over the bank holiday weekend, as they charge per person it worked out to be the most expensive site that we have stayed on (family of 6)

The field is all level with electric pitches marked out with rope, good access off the main road, however, you have to stop at the barrier to book in so sometimes you will find you have to wait a while to get on and off site.

You pay 20 deposit for a fob to allow you to enter the barrier, this is also used to enter the toilet/shower block, it seems a good idea but having only one fob for 6 people was difficult, although you could get extra ones for more another deposit.

The toilet and shower block was clean, although it all seemed a little cramped, the mens hand dryer was over a urinal, toilet and shower cubicles were small, 2 showers and 3 toilets in the mens.

The site is very easy access into Lechlade, a bridge is provided to walk across the field (the main road is busy with no pavement) and only takes around 10 minutes.

Reports of someone entering tents and awnings one night was made by a number of people, the site is rather open via access from the bridge.

No playground is provided for children and the site did seem to have a feel of preferring adults only.

They only allow green toilet chemicals to be emptied and access is via a key code ???

Not a bad site, but have been to much better for a lot less money.

Security fob to get into and out of the site, also to go to the toilet, security coded door to empty porta loo ( what is in there to steal?). We were told that there was a bridge into the adjacent field which was OK for wheel chairs - there is a 6 inch step up from the camp site side and in the field there were some oddly placed slabs which damaged the bottom of my wifes wheel chair. Most difficult to regain access to site with wheelchair from the field but had no other option.

Two drinking water taps for the site, had to empty waste water in one place only, roped pitches, looked and felt like a cattle market, only allowed to pitch next to rope. Will not be returning.

Lots of improvements have made this site even better than it was before. The tricky stile leading to the market town has been replaced by a bridge and gate making it accessible to all and a much more pleasant stroll into Lechlade.

Many of the pitches have now been clearly defined giving you plenty of space without fear of intrusion. There is also now an on site warden if your require any help during your stay. If you have been put off by any of the previous comments don't be, work has been done.

This really is a lovely site in a beautiful location and is keeping it's roots as a small family run campsite.

In most respects Bridge House is exactly what we like in a campsite. Not too big, dog friendly, and within walking distance of a town. What is even better about this site is that the town of Lechlade is such a lovely place to stroll around and has all the facilities that you will need, a good small supermarket, restaurants, and a pub right on the river. The added bonus here is that the Thames is only 100 metres from the site and the Thames Path is a good walk in either direction.

Whilst saying that I like the site a lot, there are things that need improving. The shower/toilet blocks are very dated compared with other sites we have used and badly need improving. The cubicles are tiny and frankly grubby. We were there at a quiet time but I bet at busy times the fact that there are only 2 showers for each sex becomes a real problem. I also find the system of leaving a deposit for a key to enter the toilet blocks a bit odd.

I really enjoyed the few days we had here but the more I think about it, the more I realise that it is the location that really makes it stand out.

Great little site right next to The River Thames.

A 5 minute stroll over the bridge and you are in the Cotswold market town of Lechlade with everything you could want 3 great pubs, numerous eating places including Italian, Chinese, Indian, Supermarket, Post Office, Chemist, butchers, etc.

Toilets are fine, clean and tidy.

All the swans that are on the Thames probably 80-100 spent the night in the field next door.

Would recommend this site no problem

Large flat field, well kept. The toilet/shower block although dated was always clean and well stocked with soap and accoutrements required for daily ablutions when we used the facility, but the showers are of the annoying push button type. Thinking more about that, we tended to shower in the evenings after a day out so perhaps we got in there after they'd been cleaned.

Gated access to the site via barrier/keyfob arrangement, quiet in the evenings.

During the period we stayed there was an irresponsible motability scooter driving dog owner walking (driving) her dog on the non-electric part of the site, later we noticed dog excrement on the grass which would not be very pleasant if you were to pitch your tent on top of it. However, that is the fault of the dog owner, not the site owner.

Be careful with your bookings - if you decide to leave early you will not be getting any kind of refund. Times are hard for folks I guess, but you may be better to book in small blocks, ie. 3 day stints or suchlike to avoid disappointment. We lost out on one nights fee as we had to leave a day early due to trouble back at mill, £16 we could really have done with.

When you leave, it is well worth visiting Monica's Plaice chip shop - over the bridge to town, left at lights, straight across the road, you wont be disappointed!

We had a very wet weekend here in June but still managed to have a good time. The site is quite small, but nice and flat, with good soil so we had no trouble with tent pegs, and it drained quite well considering the weather.

The location is good as you can get to the river without going on the road at all, and then can get into Lechlade via a road with a pavement. I know that other reviewers have mentioned the traffic noise: it is on a fast road and there is some noise but it isn't overpowering.

Recommendations for dog-friendly places to visit include the Halfpenny pub in Lechlade, or if you want something to eat, turn right along the Thames and take a stroll past St Johns Lock to the Trout (left at the bridge), which can be a bit touristy but is a great place to watch the world go by.

I wouldn't say that this is the most stunning campsite in the world, but everything worked fine, everyone was friendly, and it was a great base for mooching around Lechlade, the Thames and the surrounding area. We'll be back.
