We have just stayed on this site and found it extremely well run and kept up to, toilets are spotless, and cleaned every 2 hrs. I know it was a bank holiday so would expect extra staff to be on. The site was very well kept, there is a bar/restaurant on site but we didn't use it. Great huge site with plenty of pitches, first come first choose, which is ok but as this was a bank hol and over 140 pitches, most full, it was hard to find out where to go. After 5 mins a warden did spot we were LOST ! and offered help. Pitches sizes was more than adequate, some may require an extra long ehu lead, great park for the kids with plenty of space. There is a supermarket with 5 mile at bedale.
Bad points. ( please remember this was a bank hol weekend so you may find a different experience to us)
Whilst on site we felt like it was a battery site just rows and rows of pitches all looking onto one another, and the
Price of £107 for 3 nights was a bit steep, 2 adults one child + porch awning.
We will return but when its less busy hopefully.

We have just returned from a lovely Easter weekend at Akebar Park. Despite the heavy rain, the site was in a good condition. The pitches were wet but they had a very helpful man with a tractor to help out.
The new facilities block was excellent and kept spotless, even though everyone was covered in mud. There was a large children's playground and another area of open space for the kids to run around in.
The pub at the entrance to the site was lovely and the food there was very tasty.
There is a good course and driving range attached to the site which looked nice but I did not get chance to use them.
The site was easy to get to from the A1 and there are some lovely market towns nearby.
We will definitely return.

This park is in a lovely area with plenty of lovely places to visit. Checking in very straight forward and given a map of the park, plenty of electric hook ups available and water points. Ground is fairly level. Toilet block was very poor, very dated and not well cared for. Showers are free and plenty of time to get washed, 5 showers that soon fill up on a morning. A lick of paint and a good clean would help.
Nice tidy bin area with plenty of bins so no rubbish left to blow about. The fishing pond is very neglected and we never saw anyone fishing this could be down to the awful sewage smell in that area!
There's no play park for the kids, thankfully a football goal is set out on a field so this kept them entertained. However there is a large picture in reception showing a park that is to be built for next year.
We went up to the pub it is very welcoming and cosy but and a big But having children with us we had to be out by 19. 30 as we were not eating and we were told the time had come to go! We did look at the menu but its not geared towards families. Very expensive for the food as well, appears that it is a dinning only pub on a family camp site.
Very quiet on a night and wardens drive about regularly checking all is well.
We may return next year to see if anything has improved

My husband & I stayed here over the bank holiday weekend, the site is lovely everything was near our caravan, drinking water, waste water site, shower & toilet block, the shower worked by pressing a button and run for ages which is nice I hate it when it stops before you can rinse your hair. There is plenty of space for children to play or run around, but also quiet. There is a good pub called the Friars Head where we went a couple of times, the people are very friendly. The people who run the site go round often to check everything is ok. We will use this site again as there is lots to do & see about the area

We were here for the tour de France, the site is very nice, pitches nice and level. The showers and toilets are a let down, very tired, not that clean when you have a good look, but they were very warm with plenty of hot water. There is no wi fi and the phone signal is poor. The frairs head pub was very nice, food was good.

This site is under new management and boy do they mean business can't believe the improvements they are doing, the toilet block is a bit tired looking but really really clean and warm, the whole site was a lot tidier, the children play park has gone but I think they have intentions of building a new one. The pub now allows children in till 7. 30 and 9 if they are eating we had our Sunday lunch there and it was worth £7. 95 plenty of meat and fresh vegetables. The shop sells a few essentials. Can't wait to go back to see what else they have done.

We visited here this spring with our caravan(new to us) after coming last summer with our tent and really enjoying it! We were however a little disappointed. The facilities were poor, 4/5 showers not working in the men's block, no hot or even warm water in the sinks. The touring caravan area looked really neglected and there were several what looked to be abandoned caravans left lying and unkept - quite sad really like a forgotten caravan grave yard. The friars head pub on site however was lovely, food was excellent and the steaks were to die for! Staff were friendly and available. And to be fair we were only staying briefly so did not report the problems with the facilities. The golf was a good edition on site, and the course was fairly good (according to my husband). Several little rural towns close by - lovely location. Might be better in high season but almost unready for the season in April.

April 2005 This is a very pleasant site. A well stocked shop and a pub. Can not comment on the pub as with young children in our party we did not use this facility. The children enjoyed the playground(needs some up dating)and loved the streams. Plenty of space for family cricket etc However I do feel they are rather expensive, and nothing is inclusive! The shower blocks are cold and in need of a radical update, but were generally clean.

28/05/04 to 31/05/04 We were regular users of the Park both as Campers and then Caravanners until we sold the "Van" some 12 years ago. We all loved this site and returned many times especially at Spring Bank. I agree with most reviewers you should not have to pay to wash up, and the toilets at times were disgusting, (not the fault of the management but the habits of others). When the site is full at Holiday time the toilets and showers are inadequate and have not been updated in the last 15 years, Come on Akebar ask a woman what they want in the toilet block it will improve it greatly. Otherwise this was a welcome visit to an "old friend" and thoroughly enjoyed.
