We have just returned from a weekend break at Craig Tara,
The new toilet blocks were clean and tidy,
We pitched our caravan in the hardstanding circle which has a steep ramp going into it, best to approach at an angle as it took the back of our van, this is to be rectified later in the season.
On arrival back to the caravan the second day we found someone had pitched next to us, 3 foot away! These pitches would be better marked out, at the moment its a pick anywhere you fancy.
The facilities were great having read other reviews I was worried that things were below par, and that going at the end of season would be 'well used' but that was not the case.
We would go back but not in peak season.

Visited 25th April for 2 nights with young family (wee laddie 5yrs and lassie 2.5 yrs) and their mum who has just 5 weeks to next baby arrives. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in our tourer. I was a bit apprehensive about the site as the internet reviews were most definitely variable and I did worry about the appropriateness of the venue for 2 very young children and a heavily pregnant spouse.
The tourer site boasted a new for 2011 toilet, shower and dishwashing block which was very good. However both the female and male toilets ran out regularly of toilet roll and the toilets could have been at bit cleaner in the evenings and, at busy times, 2 male toilets may not be enough.
The pitches were of a satisfactory quality although reversing the van could be a bit tricky depending on the pitch you choose due to the camber which could cause the caravan 'feet' to scrape/come off. Security was very good and encouraged a feeling of safety and well-being.
The site is only a couple of miles away from the large town of Ayr with it excellent range of facilities, amenities and shopping and only 45 mins drive to Glasgow and a short drive to the Stranraer and troon ferries. The location is excellent for touring the beautiful Ayrshire countryside.
Onsite the shops and eating facilities were all very satisfactory, however the eating facilities all suffered in my view from inflated prices which judging by the potential number of visitors was quite unnecessary. We took advantage of the eating places a short distance off site and saved a bit off money.
The tourer site involves a walk/drive down a steep hill to the facilities. Regarding the leisure facilities for us, the lifeguards were the 'stars of the show' as the very large leisure pool with it variety of flumes, slides and attractions had the potential for accident but was expertly patrolled and also provided very worthwhile family friendly swimming lessons for our children. The staff were all very helpful with regard to my heavily pregnant spouse and for this I was very grateful. Being there in April it was busy but enjoyable - I wouldn't go with my young family during the school holiday period. Very easy to recommend this site.

Can see slight improvement to the touring park with new toilets in place. They have started to renew the pitches but have made a big booboo in the width of them. They are not wide enough and folk have already started putting up their awnings on turf that has just been laid! Management have taken this into consideration and are planning to redo the pitches to proper specifications.
Heres hoping this will improve soon

Having read the reviews for this site was very sceptical about our holiday. However all of the negatives mentioned by previous reviews all seem to have been resolved. The toilet block was always clean and tidy and there were never any problems with overflowing bins. It may not be the prettiest touring area but it served as a useful base for the facilities of the main park. There are grass pitches available which make it easier for erecting awnings. There was plenty of space between each pitch. It would benefit from some kind of play area so children do not need to use the main park facilities all of the time. Would visit again.

We've just returned from Craig Tara with our touring caravan. Firstly, the directions on our letter from Haven were incorrect, apparently they've changed the name of one of the roads and Haven haven't updated their records! so took quite a while to find.
On registering we were told to pick one of eight pitches left. We struggled, there was no organisation at all, caravans and motorhomes just parked wherever. We were told we could park where there was a pile of blue pallets - I think not! Don't go up the level on the right of the area, we caught the bottom of our caravan and ripped the awning rail off. On speaking to other campers, four other people had done the same and we witnessed one ourselves. There are no signs to say 'beware of ramp'. This really spoilt our holiday as we'd damaged our caravan.
The toilets and showers were disgusting. After various other campers had complained they were eventually cleaned. But you shouldn't really have to, they should be cleaned anyway. The hard standing as it states in the Haven caravan and camping brochure, is just gravel, there's no grass areas to put an awning up! It's just not organised at all.
As for the complex itself,we were looking forward to using the swimming pool, however, this does need a very good clean, there were green mouldy areas in the tiles, dirty, the changing room and toilets were very small and dated, not very clean at all.
All in all it wasn't a very pleasant experience. I certainly won't be returning. If you're wanting to go to a Haven site, I could recommend Haggerston Castle at Berwick upon Tweed. Must nicer site and very organised. I only wish I had read the other reviews before we'd gone, but with being a Haven site I thought it would be ok!

Just spend 4 nights at this site, very very poor touring facilities. Can't fault the entertainment and the swimming pool is great, although the changing rooms could be cleaner! But the holiday was spoilt by the touring facilities, there was no warden, so nobody to keep an eye on things, the toilet/shower block should be condemned, they were so bad I wouldn't let my 6 year old use them unless absolutely necessary! There was not a day when we didn't report/complain about something to reception. Although they always dealt with my complaint quickly. Coming from a flat area of the country we found the hike back to the touring site (at the entrance of the park) difficult, but did find some steps through the owners section, a few occasions we used the car to drive down to the centre. Didn't eat at any of the facilities so can't comment on them. Lovely views but wouldn't take our caravan there again!

Everything was dirty and in need of a refurbishment programme. Toilets were smelly and bins never emptied. Even after complaining about everything no one bothered to sort anything.

This is a fantastic site if you need to entertain the children from toddlers to teens
However we are sorry to say the touring area leaves an awful lot to be desired.
As previously reported by others the tourers aren't very well catered for.
We spent the Easter weekend at the site, with limited space and a shortage of hookups we were forced to pitch near to the dilapidated toilet block.
We find it disappointing that a multimillion pound holiday organisation which has such high standards and excellent facilities in other areas of their park seem to have neglected the poorly lit touring area and the toilet block.

Second visit to Craig Tara with tourer. Kids refused to use toilets/showers as cold, full of insects, doors not closing properly. Nothing for kids to do at touring area, just long car park like road with unmarked gravel pitches either side, very dark at night.
Excellent on park facilities for kids, playarea, swimming pool, small amusement park, beach, again down side having to walk up hill outside park to get back to tourer. Entertainment great every night although drinks a bit over priced. Handy for us as local, great park but let down by touring facilities.

I decided to try Haven again after last years wash out in Yorkshire something more for the kids to do on the wet days.
The Pitch
The touring area is like a disused lay-by with trees to the right and a metal fence to the left the pitches are large we pitched at the end of the road on No19.
The children cleared the rubbish that was lying around into one carrier bag.
Our view was towards the metal fence (300 yards approx) but was blocked for two days by a Static caravan which was dumped 15 feet from our van's front window.
The toilets
On all the caravan club CL's I have used over the years that have toilet facilities the ones at Craig Tara do not come close to the standard found on the CL's. My first visit was at around 22:00 on the day of arrival of the four WC's none had toilet paper, two were overflowing with excrement, one had the flush handle missing and the final one was made operational by me sorting the flushing mechanism. My complaint was dealt with by saying that the toilets are cleaned at 12:00 each day, the girl tried to contact House Keeping but got no response. I checked later that day still no toilet paper but the missing flush handles had been replaced.
The showers are very small and as I am no slim Jim I would not fit in so I used the vans shower facilities that night ample room in my Bailey 550/6.
Reports on the ladies toilets were not much better but the main issue there was the toilets flooding.
Use the disabled toilet it has more room, is warmer and cleaner and on most days has toilet paper.
The Resort
Swimming pool was adequate to keep our two quiet on most days, I used the pool twice and noticed the scum ring that ran all the way round the pool, quite disgusting, but the amount of chlorine used in the water satisfied me that the dirt was rendered harmless I also had no side effects.
The overall appearance of the resort is that they have paid off most of their cleaners.
Food
The Carvery was not too bad although the mashed potatoes were of the instant variety.
Prices
Two large (yards £3.95 initially) Cokes and a 4 pint jug of Carlsberg £18, on the consecutive days it was £14.
Entertainment
If you have been to Haven you know what it's like, if not I will not spoil it for you.
Incidentally the weather was dry for the week.
