We have just spent a pleasant overnight stop at this campsite. Shower and toilet block spotless as previously reported. Great to have a microwave, and fridge for ice blocks. One sink for washing up.
It wasn't busy when we were there so didn't have a problem with feeling hemmed in by other visitors. Pitches numbered and easy to find.Very pleasant location next to the river.
Only downside is the noise from the road but wasn't a problem for our short stay.
We specifically came to visit Henley, which was very nice and plenty of places to eat so I can't comment on local facilities.
Would go again.

We have just returned from this site there was just my husband and I.
On the day of our arrival which was a Wednesday, though we were told the Reception is not manned all the time, there was no-one to welcome us on the site on our arrival date.
I had to go and ask two young lads in the boatyard where we were supposed to go, I found this most un-welcoming this put me off the site on our first day. The day before our leaving date I actually spoke to the person who runs this site and I found him to be very disorganised and he did not listen to what I was saying. Also there were people parking their cars on the corner of the grass pitch near our caravans instead of parking in the car park these were the people there that were on the boats and visiting people on the boats and this should be re-addressed too for Health and Safety reasons especially where young children are playing.
Besides this problem we did enjoy ourselves very much. I told my husband that they have a washing machine, tumbler dryer and microwave, I found this very useful for us and so was able to keep our washing down, we went for a meal in the Three Horseshoes Pub, and I really enjoyed the Thai food meal I had.
We must agree that the caravans and tents there is not enough space between them and this should be re-addressed. We were pitched by the River Thames and we will re-visit this site again in the near future.
It is such a lovely area and so pretty I was actually doing some family history round there and surrounding areas. We were quite surprised to find a library in Benson and Benson village is within walking distance.

We visited this site after reading several reviews. The toilets and showers were indeed fantastic-spacious,clean,lovely warm water.
It was noisy being directly next to a main road but that wasn't a real problem to us.
The worst thing about the campsite was the lack of space,a gentleman pitched next to us and moved right over so our two boys could play, after returning from a walk the owner had squeezed another four(yes four) small tents in between which gave us about half a foot space which was very unacceptable

We chose this site as a convalescent test for my wife during her fight against breast cancer. Despite her being quite ill, we found this place extremely therapeutic for her. Being adjacent to the river with many types of boats to view with canoers dropping off to pitch their tents for the evening.
The toilet block was first class, having excellent wet rooms with good privacy. We were extremely pleased to see the availability of a fridge and microwave.
We took our dog, who enjoyed salivating at the local ducks and swans after being exercised over the walks along the riverside. I too took advantage of the daily fishing tickets.
My only constructive criticism would be to have the pitches white marked to enable visitors to know exactly where they can pitch their tents / caravans / cars. Perhaps a thought as this is a small site.
We shall continue to return to Benson, which has good shopping facilities and pleasant walks, especially breath taking crossing the weir.
We have yet to take advantage of the on site restaurant, but many have informed us that the service and food is of a good standard.
In all, this is a wonderful camp site and we shall continue to return.

Great site, we had a pitch a few metres from the waters edge. In order to get the best view you will need to turn your caravan but it is worth it!
The shower block is the best we have come across yet! They charge a £5 deposit for the key but you can understand it when you see the facilities!
We have 2 children and although there are no facilities for them they were happy playing around the van, watching the boats go past and feeding the ducks.
We went to the Bistro for drinks but didn't eat there. We tried the Three Horseshoes in the village and the food was good but expensive £12 for a one course Sunday roast. The children's meals were a bit unusual too including Kangaroo meat pasta!
The site is well worth a visit but be sure to avoid Abingdon between 4.30 and 6.30pm!

We just visited this site and will definitely be back again, nice location on the thames, friendly people made it nice
The shower complex is second to none(110%), great hot water, key entry (£5 deposit), nice touring site, laundry and and sink area for the tent troops
Clean potable water is available on tap.
Fully serviced pitches are superb, but they monopolise the clean waste water disposal but I couldnt find anywhere to get rid of my waste water so it was a trek to the chemical toilet to empty it (the only criticism).
Nice and quiet park, although the A4074 is a bit noisy as per other reviews but not really a problem.
Decent local supermarket is in wallingford but there is a BP M&S garage for essentials, a mcdonalds also there as well
Not alot for kids to do so its make ya own entertainment there.
It says WIFI access, I couldnt get it there cest la vie.
Visit site again - yes I will

Very nice site, with excellent modern showerblocks, right beside the Thames. Maybe a bit crowded at busy times but right on the Thames path so you can walk to Wallingford , where there are lots of shops and pubs or to Shillingford where there's just one. Benson itself has a friendly pub The Three Horseshoes, and useful shops. The road outside is busy but the noise wasn't intrusive when we were there. The owners were very friendly, well-organised and helpful.

My first impressions of this site were not too brilliant. It seemed to be little more than a working boatyard with private and hire boats moored along the riverside and some spare land at the far end given over to a few tourers and tents. However, once settled in it became apparent that this is quite a nice little site in a very pleasant area, only spoilt by the very busy main road running alongside. The road itself would not have been too bad except for local youngsters who seem to use it as a race track for their converted low slung cars complete with wide bore exhausts, and motorcyclists who seem to have no exhaust at all! Fortunately, at night-time after they had put their toys away, the road noise became less of a problem. The site itself consists of the boatyard and then a well laid out area for cedar lodges and statics. Next to those is the touring area, a small flat grassed area closest to the road for approximately 7 tents, and a 4 tiered section for 15 caravans or motorhomes. These are divided into EHU pitches and fully serviced pitches with the fully serviced pitches closest to the river. It is necessary to physically turn the caravans around after unhitching In order to have them facing the river, but once done, the view of the river from all pitches is good. The heated toilet block is very clean and well maintained with sufficient facilities for the small site including soap dispensers, hairdryer, and one of the fiercest hand dryers I have ever encountered - from wet to dry in about 5 seconds! Perhaps my only complaint would be that of the three toilets, two were in the private shower rooms, and since the shower was not separated from the toilet and sink, if you needed to use the toilet immediately after someone had showered, the entire room, floor, and toilet seat was dripping with water and condensation. I was a little disappointed in the 'restaurant and bar' as advertised. It is very pleasant with a patio overlooking the river, but it is basically a roadside cafe used by all, and which happens to sell very expensive bottled beer, spirits, and wines but closes at 7pm. I was told they open a 'little longer' in the summer months, but you won't get a nice pint of bitter or a pint of lager, unless you are willing to pay £2.75 for a small bottle (£5.50 a pint!) However, walk upstream along the Thames Footpath for about 20 minutes and you come to Shillingford Bridge and the Shillingford Bridge Hotel which has plush lawns and seating on the riverside or a patio overlooking the lawns and river. They sell a good pint, good food, and the service is second to none. The village of Benson is nothing to write home about but it does have some handy shops and two pubs. Unfortunately I found both pubs to be packed to the gunwhales with local people all trying to out-shout each other - not my cup of tea. All in all, a nice little site in a pleasant area and at £12 a night for a tent or non-EHU, £14 for EHU and only £16 for fully serviced, one I would visit again for a short stay.

Just returned from a weekend at this lovely little site. Agree with previous comments about VERY posh shower blocks! No queues all weekend and loads of hot water, even though plenty of people on site. We used the site as a base for a trip to Legoland (about 40mins drive away) so we didn't really use the cafe / shop facilities on site, but it was was a lovely setting right on the river - the kids loved watching the narrow boats going up and down! Only slightly negative comments would be that the pitch wasn't very clean when we arrived, we had to move cigarette ends, beer bottle tops and left over sweetcorn kernels from previous occupants bbq before we could pitch our tent! And it is very close to the main Oxford to Henley road which is quite noisy but didn't seem as bad (less lorries possibly) on Saturday night as Friday night. Might just be us Northerners, but the drinking water tasted as if it had just come straight out of the Thames - nasty! All in all though a nice relaxed little site which we would certainly visit again.

Excellent site and I agree the toilets are the best we have ever seen. Although there are only 2 rooms (no not cubicles you get a room) per gender, each locking room has a toilet, wash basin and wet room style shower. Lovely tiling and indeed like a nice hotel. Pitches are all a good size and we had a nice view of the river (where there is a nice walk to a pub/hotel upriver which has an outdoor swimming pool by the river side). All in all a very good buy at £14 per night and better than some that charge twice that.
