We booked for 7 nights. This campsite has a lot of static caravans/mobile homes. There were three fields for tourers, we were on the field closest to the entrance, we had a fairly flat pitch with EHU, though some of the pitches looked decidedly sloped.

On arrival we went to the building marked reception, only to be informed we needed to see the 'touring warden' who was in a static caravan on the first field. No one in when we arrived, after 10 mins she sauntered up, pleasant enough, gave us a piece of paper with the codes to the wash block and told us which pitch we were on, and that apparently was her job done. No info about water points, rubbish disposal or anything else really. The pitches all had several different numbers attached so it took a while to work out which was ours. There was a post with number 36 on and the EHU point had number 21 and number 6 on it!

Our pitches were separated with fencing but the other two fields didn't have this. Not a great deal of space between the pitches but it was ok and they were a reasonable size

There was a useful shop on site, the staff weren't particularly friendly or helpful, but it was open fairly late. There was a club with entertainment, typical holiday camp stuff, but it was ok and the beer prices weren't over the top. The restaurant had great views, basic pub grub and reasonably priced.

This is a very hilly site and it's a fair old walk from one end of the site to the other.

It is on the IoW coastal path so useful for hikers/walkers

Now to the wash block. Nice modern building, plenty showers, toilets and basins even a bath which my husband made use of. But the cleaner seemed to think that swiping a manky mop round the floor and putting up a wet floor sign constituted cleaning. This was done once a day, the camp was very busy as it was bank holiday weekend, and needed it to be done at least twice. There was the same empty crisp packet in one of the cubicles for two days.

The weather was very windy and we were quite exposed on the end of the site. After looking at the forecast we looked for the warden to ask if we could change pitches, but as usual she was nowhere to be found, we thought we would try to find her again in the morning.

By the next day it was too late, two poles snapped in the 50 mph gusts, when we went to find her to ask if there was a spare static we could finish our holiday in, we were informed it was her day off and no one could help us!

We packed up 4 days early as we had no choice really.

We were not impressed with the people who ran the site or those who worked there, the location is nice and there's plenty to do for families.

The campsite was in a good location within reach of major towns, the beach was a little to be desired but it was a only a short drive to other beaches. We found the touring pitches to be good and a fair size, and the toilet and shower facilities were suitable, although the code was not always in use. The staff were friendly and helpful. The swimming pool was good and just the right size for the campsite. The entertainment in the club was fantastic. This was our first visit to park resorts and we would visit again, one of the bonuses with this site is cheap ferry over to the island if you book direct through the site

We stayed here over Easter for a week in one of their chalets.

We arrived earlier than the 4pm arrival time and were lucky enough to be able to get in there and then as this was the opening weekend, therefore the chalet was empty. Check in was quick and efficient and we were shown a map of the facilities etc. And all questions were answered with no problems.

On arrival to the chalet, we found it clean and well presented. The hot water was not working, but within half an hour an engineer had been round and got it going. The chalet was well equipped with kitchen, with all you need for cooking family meals, two bedrooms, television etc. Very good accomodation for the price.

The onsite shop stocked all the essentials and more, daily fresh bread etc was available. It was open from 8am daily and depending on the day, closed around 6pm each day.

The shop was next to the laundry, however we did not need to use this, so I cannot comment.

The bar provided good food and drinks at a reasonable price and we ate there twice and never had a problem, food was quick, hot and tasty. A plentiful range of beers and wines was on offer, which is good. They had two televisions in thebar areas and they showed the major football games on Sky Sports which was handy and saved finding another pub nearby.

Through the bar you have the games room, with loads and loads of gaming machines, a great excuse for kids to spend tons of money, we avoided this section so cannot comment on what machines are in there.

Through there and you are into the main entertainment suite for the fun and games. We only went one evening and the entertainment was good and kept the kids amused. The band that came on after was good and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

The indoor swimming pool was very small considering the size of this site, but as we went at Easter the site was relatively quiet and never found the number in the pools a problem. They have specific times for serious swimming and then the rest for just mucking about. We found this useful as we all like to swim and enjoyed being able to do many lengths without being jumped on by some other kids. The pool has a variety of floats that one can use if they wish and also has a water slide. The pool however was closed on three occassions and this was a real pain as we were all looking forward to the swims. I am hoping that this was due to teething problem, being only opened for a few days.

The outside play area was good with multipurpose sports courts, basketball, kids playground etc and all seemed safe and well put together, but very busy.

The site is about a 5 - 10 minute walk to the beach, however the beach is not that great and is a pebble beach, not sand. There are nice walks along the beach in either direction and you can walk to Yarmouth, but watch the tides!

The touring area looks new and the facilities block for the tourers / tenters is brand new, however I did not go in them, but if the inside is anything like the outside then I guess they would be good. The touring / camping area is flat with a mixture of hookups and non hook up pitches available.

The site is positioned to the West of Cowes and is very central for all attractions and destinations on the island. We arranged many good days out making the most of the location and saw the whole island in a week.

Newport is good for shopping and has a Somerfield, Morrisons, Sainsburys etc. With many normal shops for the shopaholics amongst you. Plenty of restaurants in Newport too, so lots of choice.

I love the IOW and will be back, but next time in the summer, so will be camping, so will prob not return to this site, but use another one.

We have camped with our VW Campervan on static caravan/holiday parks elsewhere and the facilities have been good. Unfortunately at Thorness this is NOT the case. During our one night stay late in September the camping site was fairly quiet, but the main field is very poorly maintained and abused (uneven, very worn in places, burnt due to bonfires etc).
The new shower block looked great but was very dirty and clearly hadn't been cleaned for days. The site warden was never seen, I get the feeling the camping is an afterthought to the complex. A nights pitch was very cheap (£6 for a campervan) but the proof of the pudding is would we go back? A definite no.

I'd had trouble finding two pitches together on a site that allowed dogs near to the coast so I booked this site mainly for those reasons and 3 months in advance. I found the details for it in a campsite guidebook and their own website. It looked fine.

When we arrived, it took reception staff ages to notice we were even there, and then told us that the field was water-logged and didn't we get a phonecall? Obviously not, so we were now worried. We managed to find a couple of pitches that weren't too bad, but we skidded this way and that trying to put the tent up on such mud. The smell was dreadful too. Luckily for us the sun shone all week so the pitches dried up ok.

The main problem I had with this site was the constant noise at night, and I don't just mean people chatting and having a nice time. There were fist-fights, huge arguments, gangs of teenagers shouting. It was awful and no warden in sight. The noise went on til 3 or 4am every night.

The kid's entertainment was good, even to little activities for under 5's. My 3 year old daughter loved the Sparkle club, and my 5 year old son liked the entertainment in the evening which started at 8pm and finished at 9pm.

The take-away wasn't good, rarely having anything stocked that we wanted - like coke! But the restaurant near the reception was ok.

The beach is not a beach but more like a fore-shore, and not clean.

Information about anything was lacking, such as what entertainment was on (usually what was advertised was wrong) and they had a poster about a curry night but didn't say when. When I asked staff about things, they didn't know and didn't bother to find out.

There are codes to enter on the toilet-block and we had trouble finding out what these were. Otherwise there were dirty porta-loos. There was a bath available in the main block which was also dirty all of the time.

We will NOT be going back.

I have just stayed for a weekend with my friend at this site and am appalled by the standards here. I barely saw the warden so was unable to complain in person. The newish shower / toilet block had so much promise but was almost constantly dirty and often running out of toilet paper. None of the toilet doors had locks on them. The showers were so hot that no-one was able to use them and the drainage from the shower tray was so bad that there was no way of drying oneself and dressing comfortably anyway. I have never been at a site where it was necessary to have a keypad control on the main door to the toilet, thereby making it impossible to send our children there on their own. We were not told where the water tap was and (after stalking someone who was carrying an empty kettle) discovered it was sited without drainage, was therefore very boggy and was also sited next to an electric box.

Half the security lights in the camping area were not working. The cafe was poorly situated in a grubby amusement arcade and the staff were collecting in golf clubs and balls as well as serving food over the same counter. The water in the pool was 'misty' for want of a better phrase and I could not see underwater with my goggles on - no idea what standard of cleanliness this implies. I was only there for a weekend. It would have been unbearable had the weather been bad.

On the plus side, the staff I did encounter were very pleasant if vague (much left hand not knowing what the right hand's doing if you get my drift) and the staff by the pool were especially stringent about not putting up with nonsense from the many unsupervised kids that were in there.

The shop is good and the entertainments inherent in a holiday-camp style site did not impinge on those who didn't want to take part - in fact, the late night revellers returning to their accommodation didn't disturb anyone unlike on other sites with night time entertainment.

The views from the site are lovely and my friend and I spent an enjoyable evening lying on a blanket watching a meteor shower in a wide expanse of sky.

Visited as a last minute camping holiday and delighted to find a park with some space in peak season. This was our first camping trip and we had a great time but some good points and some not so good about site.
We could choose our non electric pitch on arrival and found a great spot on the top field against the hedge near enough to the toilets.  some of the other pitches on the lower field were a long walk to the showers and a bit crowded but there were no markings so you could take as much space as you needed.
A warden was about all the time and kept things organised on the camping fields.  The view from the fields is wonderful and only a walk across the park on to the beach.
The facilities were not great, a portacabin with couple of showers and couple of toilets were always crowded and not that clean.  People did say there were better ones in the next field along where the tourers were but our local ones weren't bad enough to go searching for others!
Washing up was in a room near the showers and all were free which was good.
The actual park was what we were expecting, very similar to the Haven, Pontins, style of entertainment, shows and stuff for the kids going on.
There was a good pool, laundrette, shop and take away so everything you could need while you were there was on site.
It was quite a walk across the site to the kids play area so not somewhere they could go alone but not a problem for us.
A relaxed easy going site, ideal if you want entertainment and lots going on without having to worry about too many rules!

At £6 a night including electricity, pool etc this site is excellent value. In fact it's free, because we saved our 3-nights' fee by booking the ferry though the site! At a different time of year our impressions might have been very different (the loo facilities are limited) but off-peak we loved the pool, which is long enough for a real swim (25m?) and the hour 9-10am is adult-only. Kids would enjoy it too, though because there's a baby pool, a good slide for older kids, and the water's very warm even when it's freezing outside. They'll also enjoy the outside games area (as extensive as we've seen anywhere), though the beach is rather spoiled by a lot of seaweed.

The staff are young, inexperienced, very friendly and wonderfully, comically disorganised. (We phone to book. Sorry it's all full. Really, in early April? Goes away to check. Sorry, all full. We try again next day, no problem. We phone twice more to find what ferry we're booked on. When we eventually give Wightlink the booking reference we've acquired a child we didn't know we had!)
