We arrived here on the Saturday to find that the toilets (men and Women) were full of mud. The mud was still there on Sunday morning. I went to have a shower on Sunday morning to find that there was no hot water. The sink on the hand basin was leaking so bad that the floor was flooded (which was still there on the Monday afternoon). After speaking to one of the other campers, she had told me that she had spoken to the landlady (who was very rude) and given no explanation as to what was going on and how it was to be resolved. We then went into the pub on the Sunday afternoon and the landlords were more concerned as to how the birthday party was going than to how the campsite was kept (dirty floors, overfull refuse bins, strewn litter) On the Monday morning there was a sign on the mirrors telling you that you were not to use the hot water?! I could only describe this site as unacceptable and worse than a festival site in the 'great' british weather - even though this weekend was very very hot! I will not be returning.

This was our first camping trip, so we booked one night at the rising sun camp site. It is near to where we live, so we thought that would be good.
The site is nice and flat and well laid out. The owners are friendly and there is a nice atmosphere in the pub. We didn't order meals but the meals we saw being brought out looked very nice indeed.
There was a good band playing in the evening. All in all we had a lovely time, and have booked for two nights over the bank holiday, to get some more practice.

Just a comment on Camp Kenneth's review (July 2012, Tent). Unless it's changed - which I'll find out next month when visiting the site again -
If you turn right out of the pub and stay on the back road, don't re-join the main road, after about half a mile there is a petrol station with a shop selling all the basics and a bit more. We have used it many times for breakfast-makings and snacks. Could have done for dinner ingredients too, but the pub food is so good we just ate there!

Situated on the main road between Abergavenny & Hereford, you'll need to get supplies in either towns, as they don't sell bread/milk type stuff on site. They do sell eggs. If it's basics you need there's a small shop in Mardy (5 miles away).
Toilets & showers (key coded) always clean with constant hot water. The campsite is just to the rear of the Rising Sun pub which sells decent food and a serves an excellent pint of Reverend James.
The site has a children's play area far enough from the road to let them have space. It also tables to have a drink when weather permits.
Owners are friendly and helpful.
There's only one small criticism, and that's it needs more than 1 rubbish bin. Also freezer facilities would have been good.

Well situated about 5 miles outside of Abergavenny on the 'Hereford Road'. Right on the main road - although as the site is about 6 feet below road level there is not any noise.
As it was poor weather we were requested to park on a hard standing pitch. This hard standing was neither long or wide enough for our caravan.
The toilet block was clean and presentable with large showers. There was one very small window with out any glass - however there was some building work being done on the property and may have been broken by the scaffolding.
In essence this is a 20 or so pitch field behind the pub. Each with EHU. Buying electricity is on a pre-pay card system. The Landlady suggested a £1 a day would suffice. However, we awoke 12 hours after arriving to find the £1 had ran out and the pub shut. I had to buy a £5 card for our 2nd and last day.
The staff and Landlady at the pub were very friendly and couldn't have been more polite and helpful. The pub is cosy with a great selection of drinks. It is very popular with the local (and friendly) population, even though there is a choice of 3 pubs within 1/4 mile. The pub offers a small beer garden with a small area for children. Food was okay.
Beautiful surroundings as you are sat in the valley of the 'Skirrid' mountain.
I will stay at the sight again as it is well situated for my needs, but £20 a night (2 adults) and a further £6 for electricity for a 36 hour stay felt a little over the odds.

The site was easy to find, and the Landlady was very welcoming.
Level pitches and the site had a very nice atmosphere when we were there.
We rang up in the week prior to staying, and were lucky to get a pitch when everywhere else I tried was fully booked. A great location for Abergavenny and the surrounding walks.
My only complaint would be that the toilets were not cleaned in the 2 nights that we stayed there, and by the time we left on the Sunday had run out of paper.
Aside from this, it was a lovely site at a very good price

Just had a 4 night stay at The Rising Sun. What a gem of a site.
Matt and Tracey made us both very welcome when we arrived and when eating/drinking in the pub. Two guest real ales were a bonus and very well priced. The food selection is great and reasonably priced given it's location.
There is a children's play area in the beer garden and the loo block is adequate and the shower hot and powerful. The train line was hardly heard and the trains are too infrequent to bother about. The views are great and there is a footpath leading from the site to the village and beyond.
I can highly recommend the site for a good weekend away from it all. At £13. 50 / night high season for a caravan, awning and two adults you can't go wrong.
The electric hook up is £1. 00 or £5. 00 tokens, we used £1. 00 per day for the caravan including the TV but no heating. Which to me is better than £3. 00 / night for a pitch with electricity.
The Pig and her 4 piglets were lovely to see.
We visited the Skirred Inn up the road and was very impressed with the building but not the pub itself.
Only 1 criticism, the shower curtains need replacing.
Well done Matt and Tracey.

I recently packed some gear onto my bike and headed for Wales where I came across the Rising Sun Caravan and Camping Park in Pandy some 5 miles North of Abergavenny. The site is easily visible from the road and situated behind the Rising Sun pub.
The site is flat and square with ample EHU/water/refuge points. The toilet/shower/pan wash facilities are also clean and simple to use. The site has a garden area, playground and animal compound in the corner all nestling within some stunning scenery. A takeaway menu is available 5-9pm Tue-Fri and 12-9pm Sat serving Fish/Chicken/Burger/Sausage and Chips etc, all at reasonable prices. Theme nights are also available soon as well as local bands playing.
The surrounding area is a walkers and bikers paradise and all this for £5 per adult or £12 for 2 adults with unit and car. A gem of a site which I will certainly use again.

Visited The Rising Sun campsite in August, when we arrived we were greeted by a very pleasant lady Tracey, who showed us where to pitch and showed us the facilities, which were very clean and tidy.
We stayed on the bank holiday weekend which was very busy, the site was kept very tidy despite some children throwing wet tissue around the shower blocks, (where are the parents?).
The site itself is quite small with a river at the bottom, Matthew and Tracey keep pigs and chickens at the bottom of the field, which is interesting.
We tried all the pubs in the area, by far the best was The Rising Sun the food is excellent and quite reasonably priced, the service was very good and friendly. We would recommend this site to anyone.

Nice little site that I recommend and would visit again. Good toilet, showers and washing up facilities with free hot water. Good little playground for kids. Pigs, chickens and a stream too. Handy location for Abergavenny and the Black Mountains.
On a downside, the pub down the road, The Skirrid, is much nicer than the Rising Sun, where the food is very expensive. If I was landlord of the Rising Sun I would do cheap food to try and get the campers in. We cook ourselves, but could have been tempted if the price was right.
On the Sunday morning only one of the three ladies toilets had paper in.
Finally when our children were filling up their water pistols, the owner lady told them to keep away from the tap because the water was on a meter.
