A very nice little site just off the Hereford Road and easy to find. The site itself is flat and we found it was easy to put nearly all the pegs into the ground. We camped next to the beer garden as there was not much space left on the site (we arrived about 2pm on a saturday afternoon).
The facilities were clean and soap provided but there are no drying/towelling facilities. They have a freezer for the ice pack facility but it was out of use due to the electrical cables being updated.
The shower block has three small cubicles but they do supply a lovely hot shower. Even though we camped on a Saturday night the pub was no problem at all and many families that were on the site spent their time eating the pub meals in the beer garden where there is a small play area for the children.
This is a pleasant little site and ideal for a few days away. We will probably visit again before the end of the summer.

This site served us well for the 3 nights we stayed there over the bank holiday weekend whilst on a walking holiday.
Facilities were cleaned regularly however the soap dispenser in both the gents and ladies was always empty. They could also do with a little more lighting and some hand driers (minor thing but it would be nice).
Also, for the ladies, facilities block as no power sockets so leave you hair dryer at home unless your have booked a plot with an electric hook-up.
Plenty of cover for tents to be mainly out of the wind and the ground appears to be stone free. Easily pushed all of my 16 pegs into the ground by hand.
Did not get any reply from the email address for this site when trying to book a plot but got an instant reply on the phone.
I would consider using this site again if planning walks in the area.

Arrived at the site around 4ish met by a pleasant lady who told us she had put us next to our friends who'd arrived ahead of us lovely flat pitch quite near a water stand stunning view's, went for a shower spotless and hot, as were the toilet's. There is a small kid's park fenced off and they keep pig's and chicken's great for the kid's to feed.
After reading previous reviews we ate at the Skirid Inn on the Saturday night which was great but came back to the Rising Sun later it was full and had a great atmosphere and after seeing the meal's would probably eat there next time, but great to have a choice of the two very different pubs. The owner's were great and I will return again very handy for Abergavenny, Crickhowell. The down side not a lot, hand drying facilities would be nice and the soap replemished more often but on a busy bank holiday? its not the end of the world. I would recommend a visit

Stayed three nights at the rising sun, may bank holiday. I was a bit dubious at first about staying behind a pub but that was put to rest on arrival. The new owners are making a real go at making this site welcoming and successful. The field is well laid out, flat, and some distance from the pub. The amenities block is clean and more than adequate for a site this size. All in all a cracking little site ideal for walking, fishing and visiting this part of Monmouthshire.

The Rising Sun Pub and campsite served us very well over the extended May day bank holiday weekend from Thursday to Tuesday morning. It's a breeze to find, being at the southern end of Pandy on the main A465 from Abergavenny to Hereford.
The pub was closed when we arrived, so we just set up camp and paid later over a beer. In spite of the typical bank holiday weekend weather, the site was full, but quiet after dark - I guess this depends upon the company you're staying with though.
Mathew and Tracey purchased The Rising Sun in July 2009 and some alterations have been carried out, the restaurant has been updated, outside both the front door and side door there are now excellent patio areas making wheelchair access possible. They both worked extremely hard over the days we were there, serving breakfasts from 8 to 9:30 am, food in the pub and a selection of lager, real ales and cider to cater for all tastes. They were both very welcoming, friendly and looked after us very well.
The site has room for about 20 caravans with electric hook up (not counted exactly) and plenty of spaces for tents too. Although there are no hard standing areas, none of the caravan visitors found this to be a problem. The long-term parked vans which an earlier reviewer commented on (Feb-10 visit) were no longer there but there was a lot of rubbish left behind, which the site owners were making progress in getting the caravan owners to remove.
There is an outside grassed seating area for anyone wishing to sit watching their children play on the adjacent swings and slide (bark chippings laid down in the play area) surrounded by a sturdy fence and a gate to stop children wandering off. The showers / toilets and washing up areas were kept very clean throughout the weekend and despite the site being full, didn't get too busy.
The old Skirrid Inn is about 5-10 mins walk from the campsite, but the nearest shop was a drive away towards Abergavenny (about 5-10 mins) where a gas stockist can also be found.
Walking straight from the site was excellent, particularly the Skirrid Fawr. We enjoyed walks to Sugar Loaf and Blorenge too, but took the car to starting points just outside Abergavenny for those. Offas dyke is also nearby, so the Rising Sun could well make a convenient stop over.
In summary, we would definitely return to this fine camp site on the edge of the Brecon Beacons.

Just an addition to a previous review - the pub changed hands last year. The new guys are very welcoming and they, with prior booking, did full breakfasts for our group. The evening food is varied and good value. Going again this September!
The site has a children's playground, fenced off. You can hear but not see passing trains, not an issue. Lots of walks, lots of interesting places to visit. Last time we went to Big Pit, a (free) mining museum.

Stayed at this canpsite as I had a course in nearby llanover and this was the nearest campsite that was open all year.
Telephoned the owner to see if I had to book but he said just turn up.
Found campsite easily enough as It was right on the main A465 at Pandy, arrived at approx 3.30 pm on Sunday afternoon and the pub was busy. The owner told me where to park my van and opened the gate for me. There were a few caravans on the site which looked like they were parked up for most of the year so I parked at the end of the caravans as the owner said the grass was really soft opposite the caravans, there were no hardstanding pitches.
After I had got myself settled I went into the pub to pay and was told the pub was now closed but would be open later at 7pm.
I paid for my pitch which was £12 but I needed a card for the electric which came in £1 or £5 cards. There was already £3 on the meter so I just paid for a £1 card not knowing how long it would last.
The campsite was in a nice spot with surrounding countryside and hills, good for walking.
The toilets and showers looked clean but there was no heating in the toilets and no hand dryers or no paper towels.
Later when I went to use the washing up facilities I could not get the light to come on were the washing up facilities were so ended up washing my few dishes in the ladies sinks. I normally use my sink in my motorhome but as the weather was close to freezing and I was on my own I had not put any water in my motorhome as I didn't want to risk the water freezing up so thought I would use the campsite facilities.
Next morning I was up early to get ready for my course and went to the toilet block to get a shower and discovered that the toilet block was locked, so I couldn't have a shower do the dishes from breakfast or clean my teeth, luckily I have a toilet in the motorhome.
There was no sign of life at the pub.
If campsites are to be open all year round the facilities should be available all year round. Still cant understand why they locked the toilet block as the area was really quiet and they knew I was stopping for the night.

This site is well set back off the main A465, left turn travelling from Abergavenney just as you enter the village of Pandy (no signage on highway)right after the school from Hereford.
The site is firm and level 4 hard standings which why we went Toilets were clean and tidy, host is pleasant. Only down side could be the height restriction gate, as we were the only Campervan she gave us a key to come and go.
The Rising Sun does/did not do food but 1/4ml walk and your at the Skirrid Mountian inn 'oldest pub in Wales' and the did good food at a reasonable price.
Well worth the visit for touring walking cycling.

A small flat site with excellent facilities. This was my 3rd stay there. The owner Owen, seems to me to give what he gets - I have heard other criticism, but he has always been nice as pie with me. In Sept 06 when we stayed with the trailer tent, we (embarrassed pause) lost the car key. AA called a locksmith who wasn't able to help, so they recovered us home. And during the wait, and when the AA lady (yes, lady!) arrived free teas and coffees were brought out to us.
The toilets, showers and washing up facilities were built by his wife a couple of years ago and are excellent. Disposal point outside. Snack vending machine.
Meals in the pub are very good value, and range from bar snacks upwards to full meals. If crowded it can take a while for the food to arrive, but it has always been superb. Plenty of choice for vegetarians, too.
We have visited the transporter bridge at Newport, the Big Pit, Ebbw Vale, military museum, too much to list, plenty of variety in the area.
And isn't tent / car / tent / car fire regs? Certainly saves any disputes, can't see why it would be a problem to anyone!

This pub is now called The Rising Sun and still has a campsite attached.
Our friends were not allowed to camp on the tent side of the field as they were in a VW camper, so their little van was stuck in amongst the caravans. This was then exacerbated as we were told that if we pitched now we couldn't save a place next to us for our other friends even if we paid for their pitch as pitches were on a first come first served basis. (They were an hour behind us on the motorway). I don't mind rules if they are there for a reason, but the owner was very belligerent and unhelpful. Our friends in the camper booked for one night but decided to stay for 2 and were told that their pitch was booked on Saturday night, however we were told originally that they didn't take bookings at the site. (Apparently they do for hard standing but not for tents.) He very begrudgingly allowed them to stay where they were.
The tent side of the field is regimented - tent, car, tent, car and all the caravans are lined up very precisely. This is all fine if that's what you want but felt a little against our usual happy camp style.
Facilities were good. Showers were free, but watch out what time you take one as there was no hot water at 5pm. Toilet & shower block was pretty clean and looks quite new, but wasn't cleaned during our stay. We stayed for 2 nights.
We didn't use The Rising Sun after our encounter with the owner, but The Skerrid 5 mins up the road was super friendly with a good range of drinks and food on offer.
Walking was the main attraction and after a stomp in the Black mountains you can't beat a pint at Llanthony priory.
