A great value site, well located to explore the South Hams. The owner (Phil) is very friendly and helpful and the site is child and dog friendly. All the facilities are clean and well kept, although they may be a little basic for some tastes. If you have a dog (or a sea kayak!) you can walk down the valley to the estuary. We found that Ashby's Stores in East Charlton (Kingsbridge) has everything a holidaying family could need, from organic meat to wet suits. We will definitely return to this site.

A nice quite site for those who wants to relax.A small shop which just have basics. The toilets and showers are kept very clean. There is a kiddies play field but could do with park to.Also a very pleasant dog walking area and the grass is cut regular.
The only problem we had was a caravan came in mid week and pitched up 5 foot away from our unit, we spoke to the owner and was told that he would move over, but didn't so we spoke to the owner of the site and he to didn't do any thing about it. Then at the weekend we had a tent pitched right in front of our unit, guy ropes right in front of our door to our unit so I just whipped up the guy ropes, we managed to get the tent moved though. This site owner really needs to look up the spaces between units as they are not to far apart. As for the area lovely walks and views from the site.

As many have said before very basic, showers 20p for at least 5 minutes long enough to get washed. Toilets could do with checking more often and hand soap and dryer in there would be useful. Washing machine £3.00 on a forty wash not that good as it doesnt get the clothes clean enough, but tumble dryer 50p very good.
Camp field could do with being marked out into pitches as we had a caravan less that 6 foot away from us. Playground for the kids could do with a climbing frame or somthing as it is a bit bare only has 3 wheel swings. I found that the shop is only open now and again not all day only has basic needs too. Otherwise a very nice campsite and owner very nice.

July 2004 Chanced upon this site as the only one with pitches available on a hot weekend in July in the S Hams area. Their overflow field had plenty of space and the views over the Kingsbridge estuary and nearby fields fabulous. Very peaceful, really feels like the middle of nowhere, tucked away down a winding lane but only a short drive to beaches and the local tourist towns. Very basic site but had all we needed -shop, showers and loos. No dishwashing facilities in overflow field as such - just tap but this is our kind of camping and a bird's nest complete with chicks in shower block was the highlight of the stay for the kids!
It was the cheapest site we stayed on all summer - free for under 12's so I paid a mere £6 a night for one adult - but the one the kids still talk about for the vast expanse of open field to play in with the other camper's kids.
Spent twice that in the shop which cannily stocked a wide variety of outdoor toys, cricket sets etc!
Staff friendly and we are waiting for another hot weekend to return to appreciate the sunrises/sunsets.

August 2002 A very peaceful site and although facilities were basic (decoration-wise and no soap was supplied for general hand washing in the toilet block) they were clean. Very reasonably priced, and plenty of room for extra small tents, cars etc.

August 2003 Alston farm is quite a basic campsite, with no pool, entertainment etc but its very spacious, especially in the overflow fields. The toilets and showers were clean, showers were 20p for what seemed like a random amount of time! (about 5 mins I think) Nice showeers though, the overflow field showers had loads of room. Only 2 cubicles in toilets and 1 sink (only cold water) for the overflows. But plenty more in the main feild, with mirrors and hot water! Friendly staff, small shop and info point. Loads of grundons for your rubbish. Had a small stream flowing through campsite, grteat for playing in. Nice area for walks, quite small lanes to get down to the site though. Would considor coming back, but not in a busy time as it'd be a fair walk to get water and use showers/loos if your at the bottom of overflow fields.

Apr 03 A sheltered site in the South Hams. Toilet Shower blocks at all the camping areas which were clean and plentiful, but basic in decoration. Showers are 20p a go, but 40p would have given a better length of shower for me. Dishwashing facilities could have been better cared for but were servicable. Plenty of covered skips for empties.Ice pack and information shed too.Situated in the country but very close to the coast too, walks and villages were in easy reach. Our tent field (non-serviced units) was close by a little river and flat by the river. Slightly on a hill the other side. There is another area for serviced units.Site also has statics. The owner was very friendly and the charge good value. Its a set fee. Mid season we paid £7/night.
