We've just returned from a lovely long weekend at this site and all really enjoyed it. We were lucky enough to have gorgeous weather- everywhere looks beautiful in the sunshine!- but even in cooler and duller times this would be a lovely little spot. The pub is very pretty- not the noisy eye-sore I was half expecting. There are lovely walks from the site and a shop nearby.

The site got very busy and noise at night would have been a problem if we had wanted somewhere totally silent- but with our group of young people, somewhere they could relax and have fun was more important than luxurious facilities- and the sound of people enjoying their selves only added to our enjoyment.

The facilities are very basic (convincing our teenage daughter that she could cope for 3 nights without a shower took some doing, but she managed!) toilets, water and rubbish disposal are all there are, but they are kept immaculately. Even at the busiest time the loo's were well stocked, clean and I never had to queue.

The warden was friendly and helpful but not intrusive- can I just mention that he worked incredibly hard all the sweltering hot bank holiday to make sure the facilities and the whole site was clean, tidy and rubbish free. He was also very tolerant of the visitors we had over 2 days of our stay.

All in all this is a little gem of a camp site and the very affordable price and relaxing atmosphere mean we can't wait to go back!

We were looking for a site to stay for the weekend as we had a formal function to attend at Hassop Hall but wanted to take advantage and do some walking in the Manifold area, so pitched on a Friday night but did not return until Saturday tea time. When we left the tent there were a dozen or so setting up and we found out that they were expecting some 40+ DoE kids later that evening, but when we returned on the Saturday there must have been several hundred tents, dogs, kids, groups of friends in chorales and even a party who had come together to celebrate a little boys birthday party. It resembled a festival site but it was perfectly fine and lovely to see so many people out enjoying camping in whatever way suited them best. We were tucked up in the far corner but I don't remember any excessive noise and despite the huge numbers of people we all coped with the limited facilities and chatted with each other while in the queue waiting our turn. Went out walking on the Sunday to return to an empty field which we shared with ourselves and one lonely French camper van. We had the most excellent meal in the pub that evening without the crowds.

The warden was excellent even happy to keep a look out for our tent being left alone on the Friday night. The site and facilities were spotlessly clean, all debris cleared and as an added bonus there were loads of old BBQ's, bricks etc to borrow if you needed them. Two different camp sites experiences in the one weekend. Highly recommended.

This site is well worth considering if you are in the Hartington / Manifold Valley area. The views from the main field are of beautiful rolling green hills, and the excellent local pub is very close to the site.

The facilities are basic - having no showers does not suit everyone, and there are no electric hook-ups - but the toilets are kept clean, and this 'no frills' approach means the site has a really nice laid back feel to it.

The camping area is a gently sloping field with plenty of shelter and flat areas to pitch. At £4 per person per night, this site is almost as cheap as camping gets these days. I am more than happy to recommend this campsite.

Stayed from Friday night until Sunday, with friends. Arrived in the afternoon when there was loads of space to pitch two large tents side by side. Field well mown and flat.

Toilet block basic but cleaned every morning and re-stocked with toilet roll. No hot water but for two nights it didn't bother us. Kids loved it as big roped off area for playing games away from tents.

Manifold inn very nice with good selection of real ales. Food good but gets very busy so either book or avoid usual meal times. Village shop 5 mins walk away, but does't sell alcohol.

All in all we had a wonderful weekend away. Going back at the end of July.

Stayed one Friday night & it seems that half the local youth population do likewise as the Manifold Inn seems to be where they all meet up. As a result there was a fair bit of late noise & coming and going until some torrential rain put a stop to proceedings. Not often I'm happy for rain when camping - but this was one of them!

Toilets are adequate & there are no showers.

I stayed here to cycle the lovely Tissington Trail down the road, and I'd say it's a reasonable place to stay for that purpose - but I'd avoid weekends for the above reasons.

I ate in The Devonshire Arms in nearby Hartington - which was very good & welcoming.

This is a basic campsite with taps for drinking water. The mens toilets are 2 in number and 2 sinks with no hot water. There are no showers. We only stayed the one night so it was fine.
The site seemed quite popular but it was the last weekend of the school holidays. The Manifold pub gave 15% off but we had to ask for the manager as the staff weren't aware of this offer. The food was good but it was a pub trying to be a posh restaurant and not quite achieving this. The Manifold trail is literally round the corner which was a big plus point as we could leave the car on the site.

I have read other reviews complaining of noisy groups but we didn't find this. Enjoyed the stay

OK this site is a little basic. One female loo, two male. There is NO HOT WATER at all on this site so bring plenty of gas. There were no real washing facilities either. One very small hand basin in the female loo and two in the gents and half an oil drum to wash whatever. There was lighting in the loos but it didn't work. Bring a torch. Site not too level. Can be noisy as the nearby road seems to carry heavy traffic even on a Sunday morning and as the warden disappears after collecting the money, there is no control over noisy neighbors having all night rave parties.

Some would argue that at 3.50 what do you expect. This is per person so at 14 quid for your average family, I would have expected at least hot water.

Nearby pub is OK, two hand pull's and food. Don't be surprised if you are told you cannot order food as they are busy! Odd, we had a discount voucher to use before 6pm but were told we couldn't order before 6.30. Pub grub at restaurant prices and nowhere else to go without driving.

The good points: Loos are clean and the area is well worth a visit.

Hulme Ends campsite is a very large field with two toilets and two sinks; male and female. Water taps scattered around. Sink for washing, drums to put BBQs, cookers etc on. We shared the site with one other tent, we were so close to the toilets it was nearly en-suite facilities ;-)) At £3.50 each a night who would complain.

Manifold Inn close to site provides excellent meals. The site is very basic, suited us for one night.

Please note, this site is not owned or run by the Manifold Inn Pub - it is independently owned. The pub no longer runs or owns any site.

This site - Hulme End Campsite - is *behind* the pub, please also don't confuse this site with the one *opposite* the pub (Bank House) which is on the river

Please beware, the listings below that mention the farmhouse, the banks of the river or the shower facilities are referring to Bank House Park opposite the Manifold Inn not the Manifold Inn campsite which is behind the pub and not offering showers etc, this campsite does not appear to have a curfew and in my experience accepted anybody on allowing open fires, music till dawn and did not clean the site during my initial stay.

As my comments show below, I made the mistake of booking here instead of the one across the road (Bank House Park) actually on the banks of the Manifold River, I think this is the one people are referring to in some reviews!
