A lovely campsite with lovely views towards the sea and a bonus of a 5-10 mins walk to the beach.
A family site mainly with some groups but we felt safe here with a young family of 2 and 6 years of age. Family fields available.
This was not a rowdy site! No turn up pitches.
The staff checked all vehicles entering site and the barrier is locked at night time.
The toilets and showers were plenty with hot water and are kept clean. The washing up facilities adequate and additionally a wet-suit wash area.
It generally gets quieter after dark and we were able to get to sleep most nights between 2100 and 2200 hours. The 2 year old managed to crash earlier.
We had two nights out of 7 which were noisy until late but this noise generally stemmed from the field with access to the beach and the large family groups.
The staff were young but extremely helpful and polite.
The site was kept clean and tidy. The pitches were roomy and there was plenty of space for the children to play.
A bonus is there is a mini-supermarket at the Ruda campsite nearby which sells pretty much everything and a launderette which you can use 10 mins walk away.
This is a fantastic site within walking distance of beach, shops, pubs and National Trust headland Baggy point with a fantastic NT tearoom. Additionally a Riding stables 5 minutes away for Hacks and beach rides.
It is just short drive to other fantastic beaches and other attractions.
Our only gripes are as follows:-
It would have been useful to have a family field with parents of younger children who need an earlier night.
The family wash/toilet rooms should have a deposit key system as these were used by people without young children/ single adults.
Families in large groups perhaps should be in a different family field as these tended to be the noisier campers.
We would return to Cherry Tree again as the location is fantastic and as camping holidays go this was pretty good!

Wonderful campsite, we shall definitely come back! We originally booked 3 nights but extended to 4 because we loved it here so much.
We pitched near the reception and toilets and wondered if the noise would be an issue but it wasn't at all. Stunning views over Croyde bay from the top of the site too!
Facilities were plentiful, clean and well-lit at night. Choice of fields was great for families, surfers and non-families. We could walk to Croyde beach and Croyde village (and we have a 4 yr old and a 6 Yr old)
Plenty of space for kids to run about. £5 refundable bond ensured everyone was quiet after curfew and well-behaved! Very secure, friendly staff, perfect weather.

We (10 Uni friends) stayed at this lovely campsite last summer and we all thought it was a great campsite. The location was just perfect! The views stunning. They have separated the campsite into zones for families, couples, and groups which is a great idea! The showers were amazing, lots of loos! great condition, and very clean. The staff were so nice and always smiling and happy to help. There was a couple of great pubs within a short walk! The beach was Amazing and only a couple of minutes walk!
We wanted to go back there again in April, but sadly the campsite is only open July-August, which is a shame as I think they are losing a lot of money!
Would recommend this campsite 100% to anyone! :)

This is a great camp site. Twice we have stayed here now and can only report real satisfaction. The second time - date above - was even better than the first. There was plenty of choice - the receptionist asked what type of field we'd like to be in - couples, young, family, groups, older family. She then asked us to choose a pitch.
The pitch was a good size, big enough for vehicle and large tent and other camping paraphernalia. The site and our pitch is within easy walking distance of Croyde beach and the village. Each field is sheltered by hedges and trees. Each field has a water tap and there is space in between pitches for children to play games.
The site provides bbq bricks free of charge and has a reasonable hire charge for ice blocks with a great idea of using some of the hire money for helping the local hospice.
Security is brilliant. There was a guard in a hut by the gate from 0700 till 2300 which was re-assuring and shows how well organised the site is.
There was also wet suit and surfboard hire on site.
The showers are excellent and FREE. The water is on a press in tap which is good for conservation.
The washing up sinks were fine.
The staff were helpful and friendly.
This site keeps camping as it should be - a sense of freedom and space and friendliness without too many rules and regulations
We've been to many sites around Britain and this is in our Top 3.

A short three night stop, have stayed here a few times, it is very relaxed and friendly and I can only echo the previous reviews.
The wetsuit rinse area is great as is the freezer block system, easy walk into Croyde, you are sort of mid-village so easy to get to beach or the shops, Billy Budds etc
We were lucky and found a live band (ska-punk) playing the village hall on the Sat night, brill brill brill, beer from tins, heaving masses on the dance floor and I bet the other campsites were mayhem after that, at Cherry Tree the world just kept quietly turning.
Croyde is Croyde, personally I love it and the vibe about the place (now and before children too) but I also do like the fact that Cherry Tree is always there, offering peace away from the surf-dude and wannabe madness.
A great site and long may she reign
Only one minor downside, they only take bookings on a min three night stay basis, so that scuppers weekends somewhat, unless you want to book another day off work, for some that may be an unnecessary chunk from their annual holiday. Just my opinion. I'm going back next year!

We have just returned from a 10 day stay (me, hubby and son). The start of our stay in the first week of the school hols was lovely and quiet (and weather great) but for some reason when it got busier the following week our small field got really crammed although there seemed plenty of space elsewhere.
The other negative about the field (Rocket) was that it was the closest to the beach. Very handy for us but also for everyone else (inc youngsters at night going down for beach parties). Never had to queue for showers and nice having power points in ladies block for hairdryer etc.
I suppose the only other suggestion I might have would be for some showers at 'bottom end' as it is a bit of a trek and would not be much fun in bad weather. Campsite ideally positioned just a couple of minutes to beach and village (longer but safer route to village via footpath through Ruda lodges)
Croyde is a nice little village but has lost a bit of the charm it had when last visited about 15 years ago. All the eateries seemed very expensive. Great places though to buy pasties and ice cream. Surrounding roads typical south west - narrow and windy (lots of backing up!) and Braunton can be a nightmare to travel through at busy times.
Ruda camp next door very handy for Costcutter and swimming pool (open to non-residents £3.25 for an hour max - though very busy when weather not good so be prepared to wait). Beach lovely and obviously great for surfing/bodyboarding. Tide goes out a long way but great sand backed by dunes. No dogs allowed May - Sept. Market near beach on Tuesdays with some surf equipment etc for sale as well as usual market stuff.
On the whole a very enjoyable stay.

This was our first week long trip in our camper van and I don't think we could have picked a better site.We were given pitch no9 which was about 20mtr from reception and the main block of showers and toilets, i have no idea how many there were but it must have been at least a dozen showers and there was ladies only block that had showers toilets ect.
The shower cubicles themselves had enough room for me my wife and our 5yr old daughter to have a shower and get dry and dressed with no problem. You may have to queue at busy times when everyone comes back from the beach but there's not much the site can do about this.
All showers toilets and dish washing facilities are clean and well stocked (loo roll, soap, paper towels) and you can hire freezer blocks for a 40p donation in the charity box the same goes for charging your phone, if you want any info about the area the staff are absolutely great always happy and helpful.
The site itself is split into separate fields that gives it a cosy feel and they don't pack you in so plenty of space for kids to play ect.
A 5min walk down the site takes you to Croyde beach which is brilliant for surfers, bodyborders, swimmers, sunbathers, rockpoolers and you can get onto the coastal path if you like a ramble, just before the beach is the Ruda holiday park that has a chippy and a costcutters for provisions.
A 5min walk the other way from the site takes you to Croyde village that has a post office (with free cash withdraws from the counter dependant on your bank, other cash machines in the village charge) there is a couple of shops that sell pasties some provisions and general nick nacks a couple of pubs that do nice food the one also does take away pizza.
All in all an excellent campsite with friendly staff in a beautiful location and we will be going back soon.

Really quiet site, predominantly for tents. Very relaxed atmosphere. Huge 10mx10m pitches with plenty of space between rows for children to play. Also a large playing space/field at bottom of site for games. Loads of showers & loos kept clean by staff.
Only 10 minute walk to both beach & Croyde village. No shop on site, but small shops in village, and at nearby holiday park. Village also has a number of pubs & restaurants.
Croyde beach has lifeguards on duty, but still take care as the waves can be large & currents strong. Great for body-boarding/surfing, and because it's very flat, at low tide there are lots of little warm pools of water great for younger children.
Would love this site to be open more than just 6 weeks over the summer - we'd be there all the time. Unfortunately closes before the school summer holidays are even finished this year. Definitely one of the best sites I've been to.

Husband, 5 year old son and I were really impressed with this site and hope it never becomes 'over popular'. Good helpful phone calls and emails prior to visit. Quickly checked in and shown our ample pitch. Pitch was flat and pegs went in easily. Didn't need guy ropes, was never over windy. View of rolling fields and bay amazing, could hear sea in distance at night. That was all, quiet site. Staff on hand were always cheerful and helpful, left our phones to charge a few times and had a pack of local attractions for rainy days.
Plenty of clean and warm toilets and showers. Some were very big for 'family' use. Lovely aromatherapy soap in all toilets! Mens and ladies shower/loos (ladies with electric points for people doing their hair!??), washing up area could have benefited from being under cover.Saw some people struggling to wash up with umbrellas.
5 mins walk to beach (surf hire shop, snack bar-sandwiches/teas/coffees/ice creams, beach shop), rock pools, sand dunes, RNLI supervised areas for body boarding/swimming and surfing. Ruda Holiday Park had launderette, cafe/restaurant, swimming pool and convenience store. 10 mins in other direction to village, Thatch-a great big pub that The Hoff had visited a couple of weeks before, nice ales/ciders and wide selection of food (around £8 main), great children's play area at Billy Budds next door but menu slightly more limited than the Thatch. Did take away pizza service and Thatch did breakfasts. Few surf/gift/ice cream shops and general store, post office, Blue Groove Bistro. Few miles away from Barnstaple/Ilfracombe for rainy days. Big Sheep attraction, Bideford looked brilliant. We will be back as soon as we can.

I stayed at this campsite with friends and despite the bad weather we had a really good time! The campsite staff were all really friendly and the prices weren't expensive at all. It worked on a sliding scale and we paid only £10 each per night, a lot cheaper than other campsites and B&B's in the area.
The facilities were above average for camping, even though the site was busy I never had to queue once and there were even plugs for dryers and straighteners in the showers. They also don't book in more than a certain number of people, so unlike a lot of sites in the area there was room to run around with the frisbee and you didn't have to stick in a certain pitched out area with your tent.
The pubs and beach were all within walking distance, so we didn't even use the car down here, and there are really nice walks just over the headland right behind the campsite, so it's perfect if you want to go on a walk without going on any roads or getting stuck in traffic to drive some place.
There is surf hire available here too, which was as competitive as any prices in the village, plus hiring out boards at the site meant we could get changed up here, and just walk down in our wetsuits leaving our keys etc in the tent.
I'd highly recommend staying here to anyone. There are different fields for groups of people, so although there is a strict no noise policy after 11pm, it meant we weren't stuck next to a screaming baby all holiday (not my idea of fun!). I'd definitely say you need to book though. It's such a popular place I have had trouble getting in before so book ahead!
